  1. Had to laugh yesterday. I did a rather serious 50km hill session on the bike and then hit the pool for a 2k swim afterwards. I completed my first 25m length and realized that I had absolutely nothing left in my arms. They were completely drained of any energy or will to take part in the swim. It ended up being a very slow 1500m swim. The good thing was my average stroke count was down to 11 strokes per 25m length.
  2. "inside person clearing the cheques for the criminals" !!! You just cannot win if this is the case. Criminals working with criminals within the banks. Surely they should be able to trace who cleared cheques like this. Its a damn bank after all they suppose to have checks and balances for everything and we pay handsomely in the way of banking fees !!
  3. this kinda thing drives me crazy. always some low life oxygen thief trying to help themselves to someone else's hard earned cash. I cant help you but I sincerely hope these a###holes get caught
  4. Ok thats great think I can practise this and see how it goes. I have done many open water swims in dams and lakes and am very comfortable doing this with and without wetsuit. BUT I have never swam (as in race) in the ocean (Joburg based) so gonna take the good advice and work on it. I am aiming to do either 70.3 East London or Iron man in 2013, cash flow allowing, so how to cope and deal with waves and severe choppy water are a total unknown to me and must admit I am very apprehensive about the whole thing. I must also say I am terrified of sharks. As a youngster I had a close encounter with one while on holiday one year on the Natal south coast and every since the ocean has been a total no go for me
  5. I have asked 2 different coaches about breathing technique and both gave me different answers. So currently I breathe to one side only every 2nd breathe. I have really tried to breathe both sides every 3rd stroke but its almost impossible. I find I can do the alternating breathing for the first 50m after that I need more oxygen and I am forced to breathe every 2nd stroke. The one coach I spoke to said alternating your breathing every 3rd stroke is very very important. The other coach I spoke to said its an old fashioned technique. To add to all of this I was watching the mens freestyle (olympics) on TV and it looked to me they were breathing to one side only every second stroke. I suppose this because they were going flat out in the water. So I guess it depends on your oxygen requirements. Comments ?
  6. Got to agree real Fugly ! Theres no frikken chance I would buy one even if I did have the money to waste. Theres a load of better looking bikes out there that are a whole lot cheaper as well.
  7. I just wish the damn weather would warm up so I can go cycling again I dont do well early morning having to wear several layers of clothing
  8. Must have been about the same time he was stumping the hired help
  9. I swopped my cranks not so long ago. Did not have the right tools to take the first one off so went to Eagle Canyon cycles and asked the guy to strip the crank off for me. I fully expected to pay something. 10 Minutes later I got my frame with the stripped crank in a bag and ZERO charge and I know they were busy. I suppose it depends on who's behind the counter. Maybe the LBS in your case wanted money for a coke.
  10. Yes must agree with you there. Changed the sand in my pool filter last weekend wow what an experience. I had to stick my hand through the tiny access hole and empty the damn thing using a cup.
  11. Ok so we got 5150 in Aug and Midmar 70.3 in October and I know its frikken freezing at the moment. I have just started swimming again in our local gym pool BUT was wondering where to go in and around central Johannesburg to do some SAFE open water swims without having to drive 50km to get there ? Safe as in no Hippo's, Garfields and / or sewerage etc etc
  12. Damn just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water
  13. I'm doing the 5150 this year. Yes I agree 150% very expensive BUT my wife and kids all really enjoyed the weekend last year. They liked the part where they sat in the beer tent and cheered me as I ran past. I also got a hot blonde from the VIP tent rush over and meet me at the finish line with a cold beer .... So it looks like this might become an annual fixture unless finances in the future dictate otherwise.
  14. Woody I see you live in Randpark Ridge as I do and I know exactly what you are talking about. That little stretch from Molope to the highway. I can honestly say that 99.9% of the !@#$%^&*() who drive in the yellow lane are of a particular color group. Good on you for blocking them just be careful none of them ever decides to stop and get a little more than miff. I saw a chick once driving her BMW conv halfway in the yellow lane. She stopped all the taxi 's and their comrades from passing and using the yellow lane. Serious cahoonas she had !! She caused a mini riot
  15. I use the swimovate watch. Nice to see competing products like this. Definitely will be on my list when next I am considering an upgrade.
  16. Oh dear thats funny !! it just had to come out did'nt it
  17. I just gotta agree here. Nice quote.
  18. Nah I think not. You should pitch up one day at one of the races either 5150 or one of the Germies races. Sure there's some serious folks but most are just very normal very friendly folk who like a bit of sweat and fun in the sun oh yes and lets not forget the braai and beers afterwards.
  19. He he the LIONS beat the Sharks on saturday next it's the stormers turn to get beaten. Just cannot understand why it cant happen more often

Well I'm not so sure about this theory. If I look at the size of my son and his mates at the local rugby club I would have to say there's got to be a lot less gravity or they must be eating something I am not. I have another theory the longer you live on this planet the greater the effect gravity has on you. If you look at my mid rift you will know what I am talking about

PB for Argus for me (old route) 3h10 and 94.7 is 3h23. Garf I wanted to ask you if you are following some sort of training programme for the otter and if so if you would mind sharing it with me. I'd like to take a peek at whats involved thinking I'm also gonna do this race next year.

you and me both. The very elusive sub 3hr. The only time I ever managed a sub 3 was many years ago (when I was much lighter) doing a 2h58 the race in those days was called the star 100 and was actually 115km
  23. Hmmm I suppose most triathletes in this case will also have some sort of heart damage and that I can expect to die an unnatural death at sometime point in time soon.
  24. in the heat of the moment my knuckle duster works a treat. big or small they all succumb after 1 lekker smack. makes light work when it comes to altering body work, tail lights anything like that. just hope the offending person does not have a gun or something like that or you gonna be the sorry person
  25. Ok so I tried the Vaseline and it worked perfectly. I did my Tuesday 50k cycle which is very hilly and has some very fast downhills and flats so really tried it all. Not a single drop of sweat in my eyes. Must say though I was liberal in the application. I created a upside down V shape on my forehead and eyebrows. I did notice a little more splashing of sweat on my lenses which is not necessarily a good thing either. Think I am also going to try a few other suggestions as well just for the hell of it and post results here.
