  1. Hey guys, are all these adapters the same? Found a set of thru axle wheels that will work well for a build I am busy with but my frame and fork are QR
  2. That looks like a HEXA kit from Addendorf? I love those HEXA tools, really good quality and well priced
  3. Thanks, so a good rule of thumb would be that the headset is not critical but regular maintenance is advised, and get the best BB you can afford, especially on a MTB that sees a bit of abuse?
  4. I understand that they are better quality than cheaper stuff, and in most instances lighter because of the materials used, but what I want to know is can you actually really FEEL a difference, like while pedaling along am I going to say to myself "oh yeah, I can really feel how smooth this Hope BB is compared to that Shimano XT BB?" Or "yes, this Chris King headset makes the steering feel so smooth and direct compared to .... headset?"
  5. What is the difference between budget and premium headsets and Bottom brackets? I know that obviously the more expensive ones are generally better quality and last longer, but is there a difference in the "feeling" of them, and I am not talking about the cheap *** Chinese rubbish stuff, I mean like between say a Shimano XT bottom bracket and a Cane Creek, Hope or Chris King bottom bracket And the likes of say the Giant branded head sets and the offerings by Hope and Cane Creek? Then on top of that in brands like Cane Creek where they have different models like the 10, 40 and 110 series headsets, does it make that big of a difference?
  6. Damn, I forgot I also need a saddle and bars ???? haha, will build it up like that to test it all works and then will get stripped down again for painting, not sure if I will do DIY or get a proper job done ????
  7. Found a fork finally, now just need a set of wheels and the bike will be ready to ride, things I will upgrade later will be the Crankset and a decent headset, will post some pictures over the weekend
  8. Not cycling related, but I did a dirtbike ride once where it started out hot as hell and by mid ride it started raining, then started hailing, then got moer hot again, and is still one of the best and most memorable rides I have ever done, sometimes less than ideal conditions make best adventures
  9. Nice. I am really struggling to find anything, if you hear/know of anything else please let me know
  10. Where are you getting the fork from?
  11. The monstercross build thread also says you can use 10speed road shifters with a 9speed mtb rear derailleur, that is how I am going to be setting my bike up, all I need is a fork and wheels, then I will hopefully be able to get it together for testing and then a strip down, paint and rebuild if all works as I am hoping
  12. Hairy, have a look on Cogent industries website, they have SKF ABEC5 bearings for similar prices to rapide iirc, worth a look
  13. Both Lyne and Rapide have stock of boost hubs, Lyne doesn't have stock of the high engagement hubs, but their standard hubs they have
  14. Rapide Rims are slightly lighter than Lyne rims, so I would suggest those over the Lyne rims for the riding you say you do, I had a set of the Rapide TR29-30 wheels and they were great, I weighed between 105kg and 110kg at the time and used them on some pretty rough Trail/Enduro riding and they were awesome Another option I will recommend is Hunt wheels, I currently have a set of Trail Wides, they are AWESOME, only downside is that there may be a long waiting period if the rims are not in stock
  15. Funny enough, I did a freehub service the other day and used sram butter because it is all I had other than some thick waterproof grease, and I have been wondering if it will be ok, seeing this thread has put my worries at ease at least...
  16. I guess at the right price this could be an option until I find a rigid, let me know when it is available, at the moment all I have is one of those non-damped Suntour coil forms to use ????
  17. I have contacted him, he only has 29er forks
  18. I have posted a wanted ad, as well as a post in the "salvage thread" and the "things you might throw away thread"
  19. Thanks, I have been checking Aliexpress and ebay, I just don't want to wait that long, some of their adds even state that if you cant wait 2-3 months, then dont order from them... And the forks that will be delivered in 8 days have expidited shipping added to the prices, so then they land up at R2.5k-R3k
  20. Seen lots of Chinese forks that are suitable, for around R2600 delivered in about 8 days, but I am bit sceptical...
  21. Found brakes and found shifters, now I am looking for a 26" or 700c disc mount fork, anyone know where I may be able to find one?
  22. Looking for a 26" or 700c disc mount rigid fork if anyone has anything laying around?
  23. Anyone have a 26" or 700c disc mount rigid fork they want to let go of?
  24. These locks are pretty decent, got one for the spare wheel on my Bakkie after the original spare was stolen, been meaning to get more to try secure my racks and bikes a little better https://www.builders.co.za/Fasteners-Fixtures-%26-Security/Security/Padlocks/Master-Lock-Motor-Bike-Lock-Cable-%281-2m%29/p/000000000000018543
