  1. I would get a Pyga Hyrax frame, a bit heavy for XC, but it pedals and climbs really well despite being a little heavy, and then the descents are just so much more rewarding
  2. Yes, this as well, contact Mellow Velo, Finishline cycles or Hot Spot cycles if you in JHB, or look up Cycles United for their dealers
  3. Out of those 3 bikes, definitely the Silverback
  4. I am in much the same boat, running a 2.6 up front and a 2.4 at the rear, my pressure varies from 18-20psi up front and 20-24psi at back, I weigh 100ish and haven't had any issues with smashing rims pinch flats, yet, but maybe I just dont ride nearly as hard as I think I do
  5. The Edenvale shop was quite handy for odds and ends, but no one there knew anytjing about what they were selling, same as Boksburg, go in asking for something and they all just stand there with blank looks on their faces, but still use them on occasion for some parts, strangely if you know what you are looking for and where to look they have more spares than most other shops around, and the bartering on prices always works out well. I will buy parts from them, I will buy bikes from them, but not a chance will I get a bike serviced by them
  6. 29" or 700c wheels will fit in a 26" frame, but will obviously be limited to what width will fit, I have a 26" frame that has 700x32 tyres fitted, I am sure I could go up to maybe a 40 27.5 wheels would obviously allow a fatter tyre As for locking out the rear suspension, in my mind I don't see it being a difficult thing to do, maybe a piece of alloy bar with holes drilled at the same eye to eye length as the shock, whether this would be damaging to frame and bearings on the bike I don't know?
  7. You weren't joking about needing some climbing legs, sheesh, but what a lekker event....
  8. Also going, will be heading through tomorrow, very much of excited.
  9. Deed are PYGA's house brand wheels if I am not mistaken... I bought a set of Hunt Trail wide 29 wheels last year, stock may also be an issue now though, I waited 2 months to get mine, once they had stock it took 5 days to ship to my door, so far I love these wheels, they seem to be really strong, and they are pretty light, lighter than any of the "local" options for a solid set of alloy wheels They came in at a smidge under R10k
  10. I stand corrected it is a 7° 50mm stem, tried fitting the other stem I have, that is 110mm 17° but it is for 25mm bars ???? just my luck, will have to search the classifieds for something
  11. Pretty much zero mud, one small section after the slow reeds, and the little bit of mud just after the little bridge after "forest" section
  12. The stem is a 0° degree stem, I think I may have an angled stem, will give it a shot
  13. Hoping to get some advice from you guys, built my bike using an old Large Orbea Satellite 26" frame, but the size just feels odd, not sure what is wrong, when i ride on the hoods it feels like I am really stretched out, but when in the drops it feels cramped, also when standing it feels cramped, but when riding on the flat section of the bars it feels ok, not sure what to look at changing to get the fit better? Currently using a Rapide zero offset seat post, Rapide 460mm gravel bars and a 40mm or 50mm stem, will have to double check that
  14. Yup, the Sparrow Hawk is definitely back, it swooped in on me twice today, didnt get as close as it did last year, but definitely close enough that you can hear it swooping down, it also stayed silent today, last year it called out before attacking, today it just "attacked"
  15. I rode it in 2019, there was nothing technical on the route, the elevation for me was the biggest challenge, if they can ride the Buffel route they will EASILY handle the 947 route
  16. I have some Shimano Mineral oil you can use, if you are willing to be forever indebted to me... MooHahA moOhaHa, PM me if you cant/dont come right
  17. And it was such a mission to find it the first time I went there, I dont like that new shop
  18. So for you guys who want coffee after the ride, I was at TrailWolf this morning, they set up a coffee machine there today, so no need to go into the farmers market, I hope they are well supported....
  19. Was a good month for me, down almost 3kg, very happy with that, hope I can drop a few more before Amohela this month, 110km and 1800m elevation over 2 days, might be easy for a lot of people, but it is going to be by FAR the biggest riding weekend I have ever done
  20. My opinion on brakes, I had a Gravel bike with Shimano 105 Hydraulic brakes, they were awesome, the feeling at the levers is really nice and they worked really well, had to sell that bike as my wife and I bought a house and I needed to free up some cash, been working on building up a monstercross bike now, I got a set of Avid BB7 road calipers and paired them with old Shimano 105 lever/brifter/sti whatever you call them, and also got some Jagwire compressionless brake housing, the power of that setup is every bit as powerful as the 105 Hydraulic brakes I had, I can lock up either wheel with little effort and the modulation is good as well, but they just dont feel as nice, I cant tell you what, but something just doesnt feel as good, but they work VERY well, I did a lot of reading up on mechanical disc brakes because my previous experience with them was horrid, but a lot of what I read the people say compressionless cable housing sorts out most of the issues that they had with mechanical discs..... If I could choose, I would go hydraulic again, but having said that, a decent set of mechanical discs paired with compressionless cable housing is a good compromise
  21. WP Suspension, nothing to be "bragging" about there dude....
  22. The mullet setup is only from the Turbo Levo Pro and up, the Turbo Levo Expert and below is 29" front and rear ????
  23. I haven't sold a whole heck of lot of stuff, but I always post to the Hub, FB Marketplace and various cycling groups, and scamtree, this has been from complete bikes to spare parts etc, everything except 1 bike was sold via the hub, FB I haven't even got any responses from adds, and scamtree is where 1 bike was sold but not after many MANY oil rig workers wanted to buy something for their nephew
  24. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it was some kind of retaliation from the poachers, I saw a post on FB that they found and removed I think 30 snares in the area, pretty sure the scumbag poachers would be upset about that
  25. With the shortage of stock on everything at the moment, finding tyres is a real struggle, I like MAXXIS tyres, but there is just no stock of anything I want, so with that in mind I need some help.... I am currently running a DHF 2.5 up front, but it is a bit much for me, I love it when I am feeling fresh and riding a descent, but taking it up a hill is schlep, and when you are tired going downhill and you aren't moving the bike around properly to actually use the tyre properly, then it is not so lekker anymore, so I was thinking of trying a Dissector or Rekon up front, but there is no stock anywhere, what alternatives are recommended? Been looking at the Pirelli 2.4 S for the front and M for the rear, but not many reviews out there on them, a little worried the 2.4 casing aren't going to be strong enough, and don't really want to go to the 2.6 Enduro versions because the weight goes up significantly.... Also looking at the Spez tyres, I think it's the Eliminator front and Ground Control rear, what other recommendations are there? Edit : Spez doesn't seem to have stock of the Eliminator, so scratch that....
