With the shortage of stock on everything at the moment, finding tyres is a real struggle, I like MAXXIS tyres, but there is just no stock of anything I want, so with that in mind I need some help.... I am currently running a DHF 2.5 up front, but it is a bit much for me, I love it when I am feeling fresh and riding a descent, but taking it up a hill is schlep, and when you are tired going downhill and you aren't moving the bike around properly to actually use the tyre properly, then it is not so lekker anymore, so I was thinking of trying a Dissector or Rekon up front, but there is no stock anywhere, what alternatives are recommended? Been looking at the Pirelli 2.4 S for the front and M for the rear, but not many reviews out there on them, a little worried the 2.4 casing aren't going to be strong enough, and don't really want to go to the 2.6 Enduro versions because the weight goes up significantly.... Also looking at the Spez tyres, I think it's the Eliminator front and Ground Control rear, what other recommendations are there? Edit : Spez doesn't seem to have stock of the Eliminator, so scratch that....

Mine would be a PYGA Hyrax GX build, if money were no problem then an XO build, just like the one I test rode ????????????????????

Consider replacing the brake cable housing with compressionless brake housing, it makes a big difference to the brake performance

I put Shimano SLX M7120 on my bike, been very happy with them, bought them through easy bike on special, if I had to do it again though I would go for Formula Cura 4's, mainly because of spares back up, the spares available for the Cura's is awesome, I broke a lever on the Shimano and it was a proper mission trying to find new ones

Thanks, that was far more detailed than I was expecting from anyone, and honestly, a little confusing, haha I think I am going to give one of these from Adendorff a whirl, pretty cheap, and we use a lot of Adendorffs stuff and it normally pretty decent quality, worth a shot I guess....

So I have to ask you guys in the know, when it comes to cordless drills etc, what is the difference between a drill and an impact driver? I want to get one soon, mainly for screws and things, but not sure which I should get, I already have a corded drill with hammer function for the "heavy duty" drilling, but what is better between the impact drill and normal cordless drills? Some impact drills I can see have a hex drive, but others look like they have normal chucks, very confusing.

I am sure you adjusted it properly, but just want to double check if your Btension was/is set properly, I have a XT Rd with SLX shifter and cassette, I had some sloppy shifting initially, and just by accident stumbled across a video explaining how to set the Btension on the Shimano stuff, set it up as per the video and the shifting has been so smooth and crisp since then, I haven't touched it since then and that was about 6 months ago

I hear you, but what if someone stole your bike, sold it to a pawn shop and someone's justification on buying it was "I can't find a bike like that in the shops anymore" Each to their own and all that though....

Makes no difference, a friend's Dad did that, he worked on forklifts, marked his tools so that other people in the workshop couldn't take his tools, they got stolen out his bakkie one day, saw them months later in a pawn shop, with his initials engraved on the tools, showed the shop owner his ID to try prove they were his tools, didn't help

I have never actually looked, same as you I know people who have found great deals, and heard of other people finding great deals, but on the other hand, I have had friends who are like mobile mechanics have their tools stolen out their vehicles only to find them for sale in a pawn shop a few months later, same has happened to family when their homes have been broken into and work colleagues who have had their workshops/factories broken into

Just so disappointing because October/November last year I was down to 97kg, and was really happy with that, but then the end of year slump came, diet went out the window, riding slowed down dramatically and the weight went up, December I didn't get as much riding done as I had hoped either, and now I sit back up at 102kg. Very disappointing. As with Steady Spin above, my wife and I have just bought a house, and it has been a very stressful transaction, we move this weekend now, so no riding this week while we pack, and to add to that, I have caught a cold, and my in-laws are coming around for the weekend for their anniversary, I can see weight packing on already.... However on the plus side even though my weight is back up to close to what I started at last year, my body size has not gone up, still wearing the smaller clothes I had to buy after losing weight, and people I see now that I haven't seen in a while all comment that I have lost a lot of weight, even though I haven't really, so there are still positives to look at.

While there are definitely great deals on great tools to be had at pawn shops and the like, you know that 90% of that stuff is stolen, for that reason, I won't buy anything from them, even if it is a great deal

If you are are really worried about the digital vernier batteries going flat you could also get a dial gauge vernier, no batteries to go flat and a little easier to read for the visually impaired, having said that, we have digital verniers and the batteries last forever, at least 3-4years, so....

Water? You are brave, last time I had slide on grips a bit of water got under the grip the day before a ride I did, after about 10 minutes it made my grip start slipping and sliding the rest of the ride, 3 hours of that was HORRIBLE, I have been on lock on grips since then. To answer Chris, you do get different thicknesses of lock on grips, DMR is one example, currently I have Torc1 racing quad bike lock on grips, they have been really nice, but I do want to try DMR, they are just so expensive...
