  1. wind was pumping out there this morning, going to be a hard day tomorrow, bring it on!
  2. Fantastic idea, with the right support this can work, great for tourists but my feeling is that Sanparks will say that Mtb'ers have the front of the mountain to ride on and dont need any more track. Nonsense of course, this would go a long way to completing a round the mountain ride
  3. Fortunately I work for my self so taking time off during the day isn't a problem. The problem is when I train too much and work too little then there is no money to pay for the bottomless pit that is race entries, nutrition, coaching and equipment. The only solution that seems to work consistently is to wake up a stupid o-clock and hit the road. On the weekends I also get dropped off on the way home and run the rest of the way which helps. You need an understanding family and you need to be 100% committed when you come home from training to get involved with the family, no little naps or time out from being too stuffed from training.
  4. From what I heard on the interview they are going to have a road and a mtb option for each event. not sure how practical for each venue, especially the one in Grabouw, but lets wait and see. I personally dont really care if it is road or MTB. Both count as proper triathlons in my book
  5. Yip agree website not good, looks a bit amateur hour. Early days, perhaps they will get their act together soon. I got the info from the tritalk podcast thingy, so not sure of event conflicts. Also think that 5 Jan is to early for an event in CT, we locals normally escape to the garden route to get away from the Gautengers who invade our beaches in their lumo speedos
  6. You wont understand the benefit of a proper fit until you have it done, I have been riding for close on 15 years, MTB, road & TT. I though I was pretty well dialled in. Went for a TT fitment and felt so much better on the bike, more comfortable feel faster, more aero. I am now going to get my MTB and Road bike fitted. Bang for buck, probably the best investment that you can make in your equipment. Just make sure the person you go to knows what they are doing.
  7. According to the latest tritalk interview there is a new national sprint series, first event buffelsport on 1 December. Western Cape event on 5 Jan 2014. www.xdirt.co.za
  8. Ride in the rain, thats what we do in Cape Town
  9. And you end up seeing a hotter ranger of TT rigs. The formula 1 of bikes
  10. Your wife hates the Cycling, that's a big problem right there, sort that one out first. Then I would get the bike out the bedroom, the ladies really don't like bikes in "their sanctuary"
  11. My men's podium, Pete Jacobs, James Cunnama, Sebastian Kienle. A little optimistic with James in second, but that boy has the goods and will win Kona at some point. Ladies race is going to be even better than the mens, I go for Xena, Jodie Swallow (optimistic again - but since she is a Saffa, sort off...) then Mirinda Carfrae for the podium.
  12. The super slow mo mud splashes were a highlight for me, fantastic stuff
  13. Well done Wayne and CWC, I am popping online now to get a Pocpac too and a few bits and bobs
  14. Cycle Lab in Tokai have some 2xU stuff. My IM tri outfit is shorts from New Balance and 2XU top, very comfortable. Also go have a look at the hammer shop (its small but has some ok stuff - pricey though) and check out the New Balance shop which is almost next door to Hammer.
  15. I would go with Hunter's TDF stage win in position 1. Followed by Greg Minaars WC wins in PMB Third place would be Burries 5th place in the Olympics last year. Although no medal he rode like the champion he was born to be.
  16. if you were loosening the tension then I would say clear replacement. If you overtightened the perhaps different storey. Ask for your cash back and get some shimano or look pedals
  17. Give the man a bells, that's the best suggestion I have heard in a long time
  18. Check serial number, would seem to be the easiest give away for me, if its genuine you should be able to track it to a Pinarello manufacturer. Probably only way to be sure, either that or cut the frame in half and check the layup
  19. So what causes the wheel to break, metal fatigue?
  20. I contemplated this as well for a few moments until I realised that 2 weeks is never going to be enough to recover sufficiently from IM. That being said I would want to give both horns. If you wife is quite a bit slower than you, you will probably be ok, but expect to feel like hell. Two Oceans is a tough run
  21. Just wondering what sort of lifespan one should expect from a set of wheels, whether carbon or aluminium. Assuming that they are not broken from potholes or other knocks, the limiting factor has got to be the braking surface. As an average rider, weighing 70 kg what sort of distance should one get out of a set of wheels. Also how do you know when a rim is too far gone to ride?
  22. When ever I have bought a new bike I have taken it for a test ride, sure not a long term (take it for a week) test but most shops I know have had no problem with me taking a bike out for an hour or so
  23. Looks fast. Will look out for it in April
  24. I am trying to spread the love too thin with my bikes, I now also have a clear favourite, my TT bike. So the Road bike is getting grumpy that someone else is riding around Cape Point and over Chappies. The MTB doesn't even speak to me anymore, I told her that the weather has been too bad to ride her, but she just sulks, the single speed doesn't understand that she is just to go out for coffee or take me to watch the rugga. My spare road bike has been stripped of a few parts for the TT bike and she is definitely taking it the worst. They are now in separate rooms, the only thing to do is to ride them each at least once a week. Hope the other lady in my life doesn't mind.
