  1. You never have to use the WAP, that's the end of the bearings for you I am afraid. High power cleaning and bikes dont go together, lots of hot soapy water is all you need
  2. At ages 7 & 11, your kids should be competent riders and you should have no problems with regular falling. That being said disk brakes can result in some nasty accidents (cuts and burns) but life results in some nasty accidents all the time
  3. I almost collided with two cyclists in quick succession this morning while finishing up my ride. Both heading against oncoming traffic without lights. I was flying with a tail wind and was not expecting these two chaps to be there, would have been a 50 to 60 km/h impact. If I was a motorbiker could have been far worse. How well can you see out of a motorbike helmet with the visor down in pitch darkness? I have no idea but can imagine that the vis is not great. Cyclists without lights and riding on freeways or against traffic are a major problem
  4. This be my tracking story, its a bit irritating that there seems to be the need for two customs inspections. Frame posted two days after ordering from Flyxii, then took six days to arrive in SA, four days to get to CT, now just waiting for customs to get their grubby little paws off my frame. I want to built it on the weekend so hopefully it arrives tomorrow. 5. I think that the second place run was even better, smoother, more controlled and that triple whip was ridiculous
  6. This race is so on my bucket list, hopefully next year it will happen
  7. I pushed the button on a FR216 from Flyxii a day or two ago. I must say after some initial concern about communication and service I have been very pleasantly surprised, all my questions were answered, invoice supplied and paid via paypal. Then tracking number immediately supplied. Delivery should be within 3 weeks apparently. All looking good so far and I cant wait to get going on the build.
  8. It would have been my 15th dash around the peninsula. But for R470 on roads that I ride every week and the irritation of a lottery system I think I have ridden my last Argus, one more entry to someone else. After experiencing the Two Oceans Ultra last year I am not unhappy with ditching the Argus.
  9. I have it on good authority from a "friend" who has been up there that there is an amazing amount of new growth, lots of it being grasses and bulb / tuber type plants and smaller fynbos type things sprouting. The big plants like the proteas and trees are for the most part dead, but some are regrowing from their bases. There is almost total ground cover in place, There is also no evidence of any significant rockfalls or erosion. Tokai is an exception due to logging but there is IMO no ecological reason why someone cant ride on a jeeptrack around silvermine, or run / walk on an established rocky path
  10. I dont see any reason why Silvermine cant be opened now, any rockfalls or landslides that could have happened would have by now.
  11. bars need to be considered along with the stem, for example riser bars with a 0 degree stem will put you in the same position as a flat bar with a 10 degree stem, the length of the stem also plays a part
  12. Most of the data is tested on a frame at 40 km/h, which shows a decent reduction in drag using an aero frame. Most recreational roadies will be riding in a bunch and never go off the front at 40 km/h so an aero frame is not going to be much use at all for day to day riding. Rather go for comfort, and rolling resistance. Riding without gloves will give you a greater aero advantage than buying an aero frame.
  13. I think Disylizzy is right that on street parking in Albert Road has been removed and converted to a bike lane. It is pretty tough for workers there but it is consistent with an international move to non motorized transport. The car is 5 minutes to midnight
  14. This is so much more compelling that the hour record. I would like to see someone really push the boat out with toasted croissants, bagels, sourdough etc...
  15. There was a sort of review on DC rainmaker that made me a bit nervous, he seemed to think the deliver date was incredibly optimistic. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/04/limits-power-meter.html
  16. My main problem is that September is a very busy time of year for with CT marathon, Table Mountain Challenge, Tri Rock (early Oct). I also dont think I could get the family to go to Gariep Dam for a long weekend
  17. So its like a glorified selfie stick
  18. All the best to him, met him about 10 years ago at Hell and Back and had a bite to eat together, super cool guy
  19. My saddle height is the same on my road, tri and mtb, each bike with quite different geometry, but the distance between saddle and pedal remains the same
  20. It may be easy to repair the bars. Not so easy to repair your face when they fail
  21. I disagree that TT bikes are not made for cornering, I thrashed my Canondale Slice around the Cape Town ITU course last year with 180 degree turns and plenty sharp corners no problems at all, its just about knowing how to ride the damn thing and not taking sharp corners with your arms resting on the pads. I do however agree that the road surface is totally substandard for an IM event, the organizers should compel the municipality to sort this out. Perhaps as African Champs they think that roads should be of similar standard to those found in other parts of Africa.
  22. I don't get your reference to a bad attitude and how do you draw the conclusion that he wants the riders to go his bidding. Anyone who isn't unhappy about the way the closure of the mountain has been handled is too far up SANParks' behind to see the light.
  23. Do you think they are going to be asking for a rates account at the door? just pitch up they cant kick you out
