  1. Take it in now, at least you can still remember the problems that need to be sorted, wait until spring and you have no hope. You will probably also save some cash doing it sooner. I agree with the Wurm, service your own road bike, it is embarrassingly simple once you get the hang of it. I have saved thousands over the last few years with five bikes to service
  2. Standard in Europe (same as motor bike) but there is no standard in SA, I have mine opposite to the European setup.
  3. I think that cables do "stretch" in the sense that the weave compacts over time and there is some degree of elongation, there is also a general bedding in of all components of the gear system which needs a tweak after a few hundred kms or so, but this seems to be a more chronic problem, probably some dirt in the housing or a kink in the cable or housing somewhere. Buy yourself some housing and a cable cutter and sort it out yourself.
  4. Racetec does the timing. The timing starts when the gun goes off. Although there are seeded groups it is just a way of ordering the runners from fastest to slowest, it is basically a mass start, everyone gets the same start time and the clock stops when you cross the line
  5. Dale, that inconsistent with the Two Oceans website, which shows just under 10 000 for the Ultra. Numbers are limited to only 12 000 for the Ultra
  6. First Ascent and Cape Storm are now owned by the same people (Sportsmans Warehouse), so it is a matter of time before their bibs are one and the same.
  7. No, welcome the the curse of starting at the back of a running race, it will take you 6 minutes or more to cross the start line, so that's basically a 6 minute penalty for you. Its a tough race to try to negotiate the big field from the back for a good time. I think you need to be a solid 90 minute man to do 1:40 from the back at the 2 Oceans fun run
  8. Hey some of my best friends are roadies
  9. You can run / walk it in under three hours, but you are going to hurt.
  10. I am doing the long trail run, thank goodness it looks like it is going to be wet for the road race.
  11. No. Road cycling is the new golf, the coffee stops, the Assos, the Sidi's, the Oakleys, comparing sub UCI limit halo bikes, titanium this, carbon that, Zipp, Hed, super record, power meters, wattage, Tour de France trips etc.... there is little of that in MTB.
  12. Checking the results there are some slow times being posted, we are probably looking at another cut off extension.
  13. Nope. A bit too "township chic" for me
  14. Not true, I have used tyre liners for years, and have been practically puncture free, all you need to do is smooth the sharp edge off the join and away you go. I did the epic with tyre liners - only one puncture
  15. Physically it is possible, there are plenty of guys who have ridden the DC on mtb, but to me it would be a bit like self flagellation rather get a road or Tri bike out there and hammer it. If you really want to do an IM distance tri there are other events out there that may allow you to enter on your MTB if you really want to
  16. They also had the visuals of Burry and Sauser up when discussing Evans & George and vice versa. Amateur Hour
  17. Shame that's game over for 360 Life, best they can hope for is a stage win now. Pity after a good prologue yesterday - looks like it was a chronic tyre problem
  18. Mario Cippolini is making a comeback, perhaps he will be in the mix, not! The safe money is on Cav, I would like to see André Greipel take it, perhaps Peter Sagan as a bit of an outsider
  19. I agree that on a flatish course a 1 km road run = around 5km road cycle. As the gradient increases the run gets a bit easier as the power to weight ratio becomes more of a factor (you dont need to drag a bike up the hill when you run). On a seriously hilly course I would rather run than cycle (in terms of effort level) Trail running is a whole different ball game due to the difficult terrain, I find 1 km on a tough trail running course = 10 km on the road. Or 1 km trail run = 5 km mtb.
  20. Cape Town, the list of quality riding is almost endless.
  21. Sounds like a well thought out idea once again - Sanparks probably wants to concentrate all mountain biking in the peninsula to Tokai so they can rake in the cash
  22. We finally have some politicians, if not putting cycling on the map, at least getting involved, building interest and promoting the sport and commuting. Helen has been doing this for years, starting with her first commute to town from Newlands when she was early into her tenure as Mayor. In CT we have Helen Zille, Rob Carlisle and Brett Herron making some very positive noises towards cycling, promoting bike lanes, non motorised transport etc... This is the most positive period for NMT we have probably ever had. Yes some may call it grandstanding, but why the hell not grandstand and capitalise on events like the Argus. The more political support we have for cycling the better, the more politicians that pitch up for the argus the bettter - Helen should get the whole provincial cabinet out there, maybe even challenge the official opposition in the western cape to a race
  23. Not less windy, it can really howl up there, but I agree it is somewhat safer. I think that the Argus would be awesome going over Ou Kaapse, but the weekend warriors will suffer. Btw the Main Road is not any wider but the surface is excellent, much nicer for riding.
  24. The roadworks up to the end of Boyes Drive will be competed in around 2 months. The problem comes in when they move onto the next section which is between Kalk Bay and Clovelly, if that section doesn't get finished by next years Argus - a likely prospect, we may have to detour over Ou Kaapse Weg to get down to the Main Road in Fish Hoek.
  25. Its called ripoff bikes - Seriously, that may be the answer to your question. If it is too got to be true it probably is
