  1. For the price of a pretty average bike tyre I think its great value.
  2. Oh no this topic again. Test ride all three. Each has a different way of shifting, and different shaped hoods and levers, see which one works best for you. At the top end all three groups are equal on performance, the differential is price, aesthetic and form. My advise is to go with Shimano, due to price, ease of maintanence and functionality, I started off with a full DA setup and am basically bastardising it with Ultegra for the disposable bits (chains, rings, sprokets etc...)
  3. With riser bars you have to be careful, as you trim you can find your brake & gear controls in funny places because of the curve of the bar and you can also end up running out of functional space to put lights, computers and other stuff on. Better to go for a flat bar, that way you also dont look like a muppet with bar ends on a riser bar
  4. Score!, better than the niner. Very nice whip
  5. guess they aren't so secret then, perhaps if dress like ninjas (the downhillers try this already) and drag a xmas tree behind us as we ride we could escape detection.
  6. Illegal is such a rude word. The unauthorised trails that I would have ridden if they weren't unauthorised are: - The Constantia Greenbelts & Die Hel (very early and with great humility - those tannies and little dogs can be mean) The lower forest roads between Constantia Nek and the Cecelia Parking Lot (this should be legal and was proposed in the previous EMP) The old Ou Kaapse Weg route between Silvermine and the Naval Base (should also be legal as it makes a logical link between Silvermine and Tokai) The hiking trails on the northern side of Red Hill (should also be legal, very little hiking activity there) The southern side of Tokai, jeeptrack and horse trails (which should be legal, I do far less damage than a stinky horse) Before anyone takes exception. There are no big secrets here Sanparks knows about all these spots,
  7. This is news? really. Affirmative action has been part of the landscape for ages who cares is Woollies is a bit more straightforward in putting the facts in the job adverts. At least white job seekers know not to waste their time and effort in applying, this is the policy for the majority of jobs in Corporate SA and has been for years. Its not going to change, just live with it, boycott Woollies if you want to, but scratch the surface of the competition and you will have to start growing your own food.
  8. flip a layback seatpost and bingo, a more forward position on the bike
  9. I find that I need to start eating at an hour and a half (chomp a whole bar or most of a bar) and then top up regularly from there with a gel. If I dont eat at 1:30 I will start bonking at 2:00. Anything under 50 km I will do with just water longer than than I need to take an energy drink
  10. Just get stuck in, you probably don't need to train that much harder if you pace yourself, the biggest issue is that you need to start paying attention to nutrition over the longer distances, with 25 km you can just muddle through on a bottle of water.
  11. Are you sure its not the brakes?
  12. The new entry process is pretty good, better than last year I think
  13. Awesome I am in, pays to have done 10 tours
  14. I don't remember a split, oh yes because I was working on the front, try it you will probably like it.
  15. I am definitely bailing tonight, weather looks disgusting out, thank god its spring tomorrow. Pity my single speed need a spin
  16. Just put some slick tyres on, makes riding the Mtb on the road a much faster and more pleasant experience.
  17. Again seriously? its worse raising this topic again than riding without a hemut
  18. Chainstays designed by Paul Adams?
  19. Tell her that without riding you would be irritable, fat and looking for an early heart attack. I tell my wife that I ride to keep fit to be around longer for her and the kids
  20. The road works are moving onto the section between Kalk Bay and Clovelly, the only way to detour that section is to take Ou Kaapse Weg, A most excellent idea methinks
  21. Good idea, best benefit is to weed out the scammers posting fake adds.
  22. Why not? just think of the marketing opportunities, there are plenty of guys who currently have a 29'er and a 26'er. I think that the ideal stable is a 29'er HT, a "fun" longer travel dual 26'er and a short travel 650B bike.
  23. Thank god I didn't run out and buy a 29'er, now I am going to delay buying a 650b'er, and wait for the next big (marketing) thing.
  24. This is why I only deal in Cape Town, in cash and in person. Just not worth the pain and suffering to deal at arms length
