Im so shait at climbing i need to go balls to the wall on the downs.

Not actually unless you want to drive up to the top of gouna, or simola, or concordia. only places i can think that can accomodate spectators. and you can only drive back via George.

All you can basically do is get a rigid carbon fork, a custome 48 or 52 chainring front (depending on your frame and type of front derailure, carbon wheels with slicks. Or go spend 3k on a old second hand giant that will still go faster on the road than your pimped up 26mtb.

oh all bike shops are the same, take lance from epic bike shop (great rep) ex pro rider, known to do great service, he sells a aquantace of mine a ZTR crest wheelset with a weight limit of of 80kg. This chap is is 147kg, lance is a master wheelbuilder. Guess what wheel fails and lance refuses to replace, ZTR says sorry the dude is over the weight limit, and he gets forced to buy a new wheelset, they all a bunch of rip of artists unless you know your components and can sort them out. From the dodgy shop like bridge to the upper market shops like epic.

Hell no only heading back Monday nothing like waking up 4am cycling 5 hours and then a 6 hour drive home ..... eish.

HDW start in your group you will eventually settle into a group going at your pace, it invariably happens that way, and last year in the heat most people filled up at every waterpoint.

How about an after ride / after nap / piss up at 34 south.

4 hours serious race snake 5 hours well fit 6 hours fit'ish (repeatedly thinking to yourself you should have trained harder) 5 hours a week just wasnt enough. 7 hours the optimistic crowd that know they should not have been there on race day. 8 hours the slugish that thought it would be a good challenge but blame their heavy bikes for everything.

I always check my bolt tension on my entire bike myself regardless if it has just been serviced, came down middle canararies, and just over the rockpile my handlebars were still pointing the right way, with the wheel doing a 180mid air, untorqued headset can make for interesting steering/landings.

Just turn your bike around and cycle back to fetch it, the route is more fun in reverse.

I make a point of it to never let that thing called work intefere with my MTB.

Yeah wtf it was the best part in the race, passing 500 people on the way down because its full of errm dirt and they can't ride it. Might as well go buy a freakin cyclocross bike for this one.
