  1. here is a good explanation on crank length and why we have variable sizes. http://sheldonbrown.com/cranks.html
  2. Most serious BB hits are going down in my experiance and that just means you level your pedals if you see you are about to hit. As far as clibming rocky sections. I find that doing a simple unweighting, front and rear saves my BB from being hit every time. 5mm is going to make no difference on a rocky climb. 2cm might but not 5mm.
  3. Quite correct when the suspension is not compressed, measure it when you reach full compression. And you find they sag lower.
  4. Quite correct 5mm will make no difference in ground clearance of BB hight, especailly as your supposed to keep pedals level when you see an obstacle that might hit your cranks. Same applies for DH/AM bikes they have very low BB's and you dont hear them going on about clearance. The balance outweighs the occasional BB hit.
  5. The man speaks sense, your frame is not longer or higher, your wheels are bigger, and your rear stay is a bit longer to to accomodate the bigger wheel, So the answer is no you stay with 175mm, Simple way to look at the logic in crank length: Pick 10 random 29"ers from 10 random manufacturers and look at their specs. you will notice they all come with standard cranks.
  6. Im still waiting for information on the suspension post........ dont make me sad please.
  7. The new upper upper upper cannaries section rocks and the AM trail is also not bad.
  8. couple of things need to happen in my humble opinion, Bring back the cycling and pedestrian saftey program. During which you have to write an exam sort of like a "drivers license test" Once you pass you have to register your bike at the municipality and you get your little registration tag like we had when we were kids. Then the police should activly enforce the laws of cycling on the roads, since you have a registration tag it would be easy to fine the cyclist once he is pulled over. Hell i remember i got my first "fine" for running a red robot on my bomber age 7, and i say "fine" because the cops gave my dad an option bliksem die donner of betaal n R50 fine. Needless to say which one daddy chose, however I am of the opinion that the only way south african's learn is if it hits their wallets,
  9. Awesome idea im going to speak to zille to make this the lahhhhw and then manufacture carbon fibre areo plates for roadies to buy whoop whoop
  10. Rocky mountain element 999 frameset
  11. Even though what is said makes sense, if i may comment on the QR vs 20mm, yeah on a normal XC race it will make no difference except add weight to the bike as the 20mm weighs more, and the shock weighs more, and your limited to shock choice. 20mm on an XC bike like my 29'er does considerably stiffen up the wheel, and where you feel it is definitly not on farm roads and jeeptrack as is most races, you notice is best going down more technical singletrack where it instills unmeasured confidence and makes technical riding so much more fun 20mm makes the steering just so much more precise, where you point it is exactly where it goes. It is a major investment, and I am not a race snake, i prefer riding the technical stuff, and i do races to make me fitter and stronger on the technical stuff, so the couple of grams extra to me is not a problem, however the amount of enjoyment that i get from singletrack is more than worth the money i spent on it. Now most forks do have 15mm instead of QR even the race snake forks, and if you have a 29'er this is the best compromise to stiffen up the wheel. There is a difference between 20mm and 15mm but its negligable. There are also more wheelsets and 15mm converterable hubs than you have at 20mm. And the weight penalty is slightly less. So for most people 15mm is definitly the way to go, QR is dead as far as i am concerned.
  12. oh and its only easy A if your not burned to a crisp, and you have a south easter on the day, you will suffer
  13. If you haven't done proper base training those plans are useless, and if its your first you will just get stuck behind idiots and noobs and wont get into a decent bundle. If you want to learn how to make a decent training plan, get joe friels heart rate training guide.
  14. Livestrong is about cancer support i see no issue wearing livestrong kit, the rest however would never even have been in contention.

    Formula 1...

Theres no bigger whiner and blame xyz than old Alonso, he was outclassed by Hamilton, and if he had a decent partner this year he would be outclassed too, he is really not that great a driver. Vettel is great but he tries to hard to be cool. Hamilton has an attitude and he has a right to have an attitude, till Mclaren developed him he competed against the elite super rich like the rosbergs while his dad lived in a van to pay for his races, he borrowed old used tires from the pro teams, and he still managed to kick their asses, he is unequivically the best driver in F1, Kimi has the most balls (not the brightest boy but definitly the most gutsy) Vettel needs to buy a presonality Alonso should unknot his panties. Button should go play golf or drink tea.
  16. i love how everyone is up in arms and thers technically no details available, USN is one of their sponsors and USN has had so many retracts for having banned substances in their product over the last couple of years, odds are its a USN issue rather than a DG issue. But then again like everyone says he learned to dope in a premier team. Ill personally wait for some facts before i start slamming him, and if the facts are that he has been doping then roast the hell out of him.
  17. I cant seem to find anything about this on the major news sites, nor do i see anything on the 360life site. What are the sources for this tidbit.
  18. yup without a pick it will be tough to judge.
  19. is that photoshop'd too? http://www.iol.co.za/capetimes/ashton-swellendam-link-closed-1.1409850#.UJEPa2f-JnA
  20. i dont see this working at all cant see shimano making a crankset that you can convert to 2x10 when they have 2x10 cranksets in production, also dont see the front 3x10 mech work on a 2 x10 blade combo. I'd be highly surprised if you get this right.
  21. What model no cranks you have?
  22. Not as far as i know, the spacing is different between the crank blades and the bb and the first blade. But ive never tried it. Maybe ask Johan Borman if theres a way he should know about it.
  23. you would need to change your Cassette at the rear, the rear derailleur, the crankset to accomodate 2x10
