  1. I've just managed to sell my car, privately through AA Autobay! After I sold my last car via trade in, I realised I left the post office key in the cubby, I went back I week and had to pick my jaw off the floor after realising just how much money you lose on a trade in, I could have made double the money! Anyways, I was in a position to sell privately now, which I recommend everyone tries
  2. +1 Managed to service my Rock Shox Dual U turn the other day, R300 in parts which can be used over and I don't have to fork out R1000 for a bike shop to stuff it up! My bike gives me less hassles in the long run now.
  3. HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry I had to do that because I recently dealt with Groupon and share your pain. In fact - I was about to write something very nasty on Facebook when Pyro announced there that they had sold stock to Groupon to sell as part of deals - something a long the lines of "Before you buy from Groupon, do yourself a favour and head to www.hellopeter.com and search for Groupon, and spot the happy faces". Then some form of compassion held me back, but now I wish I had warned everyone. I recently bought a Thailand deal through them only to be told once the deal had gone through, that the coupons are for couples 35+ of age .... huh?!?! Anyways after waiting more than a week for a response to my refund email, and nobody in their offices answering my phonecalls, I decided to ask the bank to reverse the transaction, which is exactly what I suggest anyone unfortunate enough to have dealt with Groupon do as well.
  4. After buying a few items to reduce sweat I figured out that a helmet with proper ventilation helps most to prevent sweat in the first place!
  5. Long time since I've posted on this thread, needed to go for the op again, this time on my right leg which started giving me ITB hassles about a month ago. Op was on Friday and I'm already walking stairs without the need for a railing, leg is still a bit stiff but I'm going to attempt a baby ride toward the end of the week Left leg has been hassle free since my op in Sep 2010.
  6. Might be something as simple as needing to shake the sealant bottle before you use it, especially with Stans. Most of the active ingredient settles at the bottom and you need to shake to get it to work properly. Had some problems a while ago with an almost empty bottle of Stans sealant
  7. I saw on a downhill video that your hands should sit roughly as wide as your shoulders, too narrow and you lose balance, too wide and you lose steering. That being said you can judge from there . Then there's the question of straight bars and riser bars ...
  8. Checked the brake discs for dirt/warping??
  9. Haha! I've had tyre/puncture issues almost every time I've ridden the Spruit, and that's with slime. Best pack your bubble-gun so you have something to do on the walk back
  10. If I'm not mistaken, you can change a data field on the Edge 800 right from the current display without having to wade into settings. You have to push and hold a data field you want to change e.g. - where it says "distance" ... after a few seconds it will give you the option to change distance to another data type like heart rate etc
  11. Thanks guys, much appreciated :-)
  12. Anyone know if Northern Farm is open tomorrow (Monday)??
  13. Well if it rains you might grow a 29'er
  14. I've had this too on one occasion, landed up on Morocco for a split second If I remember correctly, I took a large jump that day, can't confirm if knocks or sudden accel/deceleration could affect the readings. Perhaps it plays havoc with the way it interprets the altitude/speed/distance?
  15. ITB ... my old friend! There's a thread somewhere on the hub where everyone was discussing different options. In my opinion if you can't shake it within a month or 6 weeks using "natural" remedies or physio like I did, you're best off considering the surgery. I was back on the bike within 2 weeks with no comebacks and a very quick surgery. Make sure you get a good doc though, if you're in JHB I can suggest one
  16. Dunno Been riding for 5 years and only heard this "Track" expression a few months ago. To be honest, if you don't know what it means, you'll never figure it out when someone says it. I think the good ol' "Passing on your right/left" works best
  17. Howzit Found a multitool on the trails at Northern Farms this morning, was near the little wooden bridge a few hundred meters before the drop off into the river trail section going the standard anti-clockwise direction. If you can name the colour, brand and inscription I can organise to get it back to you or you can fetch it for my troubles MSG me.
  18. GUTR is great, worked like a bomb, but annoyed my ears a bit. Since I switched to a helmet with more ventilation it eliminated the need for a GUTR completely. But if you are a sweater (Like I thought I was) I would recommend one
  19. Oh - The guy at the ticket office says the tickets get discounted as soon as you buy 20. 20 x R15 = R300 Apparently if you buy 19 tickets they are R30 each, you have to get 20. I haven't tested this yet but that's the word from the ticket office!
  20. Yeah, do like Redline says and offset them a little, I found that alternating the direction the bikes face isn't as effective (Due to handlebars hitting saddles) as staggering them left and right when that all face the same way. You may have to use some cloth/bubblewrap and elastics to protect the handlebars/brakes/stems from each other Good luck!
  21. Sorry this may be a bit off topic but this morning I saw some dude pushing what look like a very white softail down the road near 11th at 6AM (Close off Lever and Carlswald in Midrand). Seemed very suspicious, anyone missing a white bike? (Couldn't see the brand).
  22. Washing?? Baaaah humbug! Did you hear about the farmer who won the tractor display competition?? He never cleaned his tractor until show day! The mud kept the paint from fading and protected it, everything in moderation I've pitched up to a couple races with a dirty MTB, I couldn't give a toss! I do try and keep the bike clean but I'm not gonna go out of my way to keep it spotless, washing should take you as little time as possible because it's only gonna get dirty again! If it takes you 5 mins to take 90% of the gunk off it's not worth spending an hour or 2 to get 100% of it off, unless you plan on giving it a service, then it helps! I have noticed that keeping the bottom bracket clean does help avoid getting that nasty squeak from riding though too much mud. It's like these clowns that spend every Saturday morning washing their cars, what a waste of time! My car gets a wash when I go through a puddle or it goes for a service
  23. Yeah, I sometimes wonder if I got some humming bird genes in me
  24. Personally I think there is no science, some top athletes have high heart rates, some have low. The general rule is knowing YOUR heart rate Knowing your maximum heart rate notifies you as to whether you're pushing as hard as you should be to get fitter, or taking it easy. I'm 30 and my theoretical max is 190 (220 - Age). I've reached 202 on some occasions (18 years old ?!?!)
  25. Midrand - Usually 6pm, though if we head out to to Northern Farms the temp is about 4-5 degrees lower than in Midrand !
