  1. As soon as the Polar straps work as well as the Garmin straps, I might consider another Polar. Until then, I'll stick to my Garmin.
  2. You'll find that most people who were happy with their accomodation, book for the next year as they check out the morning before the race. That's what we do. If you don't most of the good places are taken 6months before the time.
  3. Get the sealed unit. Cheaper and lasts longer. They work better as well. I went through 2 wearlink straps, cursing most of the time when it doesn't work, while my wife's el-cheapo worked for 3 years until the battery was flat. Got mine at CRC.
  4. How old are you Kevin and how much do you want to spend on a bike?
  5. Egg beaters unclip a bit easier but the angle you have to twist your ankle is larger. I prefer Shimano since the angle is smaller and therefore I can unclip faster in an emergency (had a few in the last months).
  6. I trained the following day. No ill effects.
  7. Inconsiderate American! How can he expect his gardener to ride with working boots on eggbeaters? He's gonna break his nuts. Get him flat pedals or proper cleats. PS: Did you ask whether the American went back to a 26er? That would make him a clever American..
  8. You might have to contact Garmin themselves (Avnic Trading). I bought a spare one on CRC with my last order. Those things normally only lasts about a year, if you are carefull.
  9. Do your research and then decide if the price is ok. Did that with the XT pedals I wanted, CRC was the cheapest by around R100 but Buycycle was still R100 cheaper than any LBS around. So I chose Buycycle cause I didn't want to wait 4 weeks again with royal mail. 4 days later I picked it up from our reception desk. At least they weren't pink like the eggbeaters I once received from them. At least those pink pedals looks fine on the wife's bike now.
  10. Unbelievable!
  11. Latex solution has an amonia base to keep in suspension. This latex solution makes the base of the sealant. You should be able to mix latex based sealants. I have once mixed latex and a water based sealant and it chucked the latex out of solution (it made a rubber ball). If the cut is not too long use a plug or 2 to seal it. If it is too long, fit a gator and tube and then patch it from the inside when u get home.
  12. The best time to train is when the time can be made available. You still have to make time to train if you have a day job. I don't like losing sleep in the morning, so I train in the afternoon. I need lots of sleep and go to bed at 21h00. I do however leave for work early so training in the morning makes me loose sleep and there is no way I will go to bed at 19h00 to make up for it.
  13. Where and how do you carry a gun while riding/running? I have often thought about this. When they bike-jacked me 2 weeks ago, the first thing they do is go through your shirt pockets. You would need to have the gun under your shirt somewhere?
  14. I witnessed this happen to one of those white Geax tyres. I thought it was 12h00 in CPT, but we were in the Eastern Cape. A cannon shot of note.
  15. If you practice on a tar road while clipped in, please send us the video.
  16. That's not normal. I check mine maybe every 6months or so. Unscrew the valve core and replace it with a core from an old tube. Might be some dirt around the seal.
  17. Awesome, thanks!
  18. I think you should consider a new forum name.
  19. You also get a rubbery type epoxy, which is black and flexible. Once repaired a road tyre with it. Think it is called "Wondafix car" made by pratley.
  20. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but make sure the valve is at the top or on the side when using a bomb. When the valve is at the bottom, so is the majority of the latex solution which will remove the latex from suspension and 'dry' it out.
  21. My training partner had to pull in next to me a few times on a ride, so that I could shift the front derailleur for him. He wasn't wearing gloves and could not get a proper grip to twist the shifter. It should be ok with gloves and a new cable.
  22. You will get it next week. Mine was shipped on 3rd March and arrived 2 days ago.
  23. I had 2 orders in the last 2 months with Royal Mail. The 1t one was 1 day short of 3 weeks and the 2nd one I picked up yesterday took 3.5 weeks.
  24. You could do that, but most of us are weight concious. The idea of the design is that the cable does not whiplash and hit you on the knuckels. That is why the cable will always be slightly shorter than the condute.
  25. A piece of 25mm condute, 3-4mm thick cable folded in half so it fits inside the tube. Cast some lead on the tips of the cable ends. Drill a 10mm hole into a block of wood and use that to cast the lead. Insert the folded cable into the tube and fit a bolt through on close to the end of the tube to keep the cable inside. It is important to allow enough space between the bolt and the tube tip for the lead ends. The bolt also prevents the lead ends to go inside too deep, keeping the cable inside and to prevent it from falling out the bottom. It is actually easier to make the cable first and then cut the tube to length. Also fit a small piece of wire on the cable bend to prevent it from sliding past the bolt when you are swinging the whip. The wife also wanted one, but I refused. If your attacker takes this thing off you, you might end up bleeding quite a bit. If don't have the confidence to defend yourself with a weapon, don't carry one.
