  1. To add to the above.. Why type of riding do you want to do on it? If you want a race specific bike then it is different to a free ride bike. If you want a downhill bike it is different to a XC bike. Think you get my point. If you put the type of riding you want to do I have no doubt you will get better ideas from people here. By the looks of it you juts want to build a decent XC bike. As has been said your most important decisions here are frame, fork (probably 120mm) and wheels. That is my 2c and I don't need any change.
  2.
  3. Just do the training and get one 2 weeks before the race. Lots were up for grabs this year around that time.
  4. I don't think it was the issue with Milka Trek. It was another time. I think it was the Stockli pro team. Not 100%.
  5. If you watch it on tv Karl Platt shouts at the guys attacking. He made it his business to catch them and see how strong they really were. They were relatively far behind 36ONE at that time so good on him. I think it speaks volumes about his character.
  6. How do you work that one out. He has an opinion so do you. Who says yours is right?
  7. That is very good!!
  8. Good luck with that. I am still waiting for mine from 2 years ago!
  9. Yeah last year was perfect. It is just a distance race so distance is what you need to be doing. I rode it alone and did ok. Try and get 2 or 3 together it is easier. I did jump on a few trains but not for long. If you not racing it don't worry too much.
  10. So what's the question here? Why do people have personal choices? Same reason we all like Nik Naks it has been embedded into our brains since we were little kids.
  11. That is good work there. BROKEN... Kevin's spirit right now as he sits at home and watches the rest of the race.
  12. This is the one I have http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/sram-x-0-carbon-10spd-crankset-3x10
  13. It is indeed. I am thinking about a bigger big chainring. I only have my mtb and sometimes use it on the road and run ouot of gears. Might get a 44 when this one dies. Run most of of mtb work in the middle 32. Only use the 22 for the tough stuff. Very happy with the set up.
  14. Sram 3x10 carbon crank. That's what I have on my 29er. Got it from CWC.
  15. I was the same last year. It is purely so people don't ride the route except for the race. I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck and enjoy the race.
  16. SID is the business. But as stated both are good, just one is better.
  17. +1 Get the Bulls. It is super fast!
  18. I did a 3 hours 39 minutes on my Bulls 29er. I heard about the guy in the VB group, heard it was a 26er. My brother saw him as he was in the same group. Apparently he managed to hold on till Simons Town. Big respect dude. My biggest issue was running out of gears on the straights. Great race well done to all.
  19. The problem is not a single person trying to ride and obey the law. The problem is group cyclists that ride 3 to 4 abreast. They then piss the motorist off and he has it in his sights to "get" the next bunch. I have seen this happen too many times. It is a jungle out there and I just want to stay alive, so I will ride as far left as I can.
  20. What club? Name and shame.
  21. 2 Weeks of moderate training. You are not going to build any muscle on the last week. You are also not going to lose any of your fitness. Just keep the legs working with nothing strong on the last few days. The first day in Tokai should be a good start to your week of riding. My2c..
  22. They won't have far to go to check in when someone collects one of them.....
