  1. After some more reading, it seems an Ikon front Aspen rear or Ignitor front Aspen rear sounds like good options if looking to ride an Aspen on your bike.
  2. Aspens are notorious for their thin sidewalls. Actually forgot about the Aspen, will need to get my hands on one.
  3. Have to agree that the 3C on the Ikons are far superior to the Schwalbe tires mileage wise.
  4. Thanks for the comments so far. I'm under the impression that a Racing Ralph could get a washy as a front tire for loose over hard terrain? I have had RaRa RoRo combo on my Niner HT, and don't think I will go RoRo again soon on the front. The Ritchey Shield is a tire I've been eyeing for a while. Looks similar to Race King but with more aggressive side knobs, and weight looks promising. I will look out for some Aspen/ Ritchey specials... I will probably start off with two Ra Ra's and then change out the front for a Ikon as I have these tires already in stock.
  5. Good day Hubbers, I've become the lucky owner of a Anthem X29 stock standard as my marathon racing bike. I have a Crest wheelset from my Niner bike and is a big fan of Ikon tires in general, with an Ignitor at the front more recently, but at a cost rolling resistance wise. This wheelset will be used on my Anthem bike also, as the groupset and chain is the same between the two bikes. I would like to experiment with low rolling resistance tires with low weight used for XC marathon racing. My current tire combo ideas to try out : Racing Ralph front and back. Racing Ralph back, Ikon front. Ikon front and back. Any ideas/ comments? Also how much weight have AnthemX29 owners saved by changing out the stock wheelset for Crests and the Crossmarks for example Ikons or Schwalbe tires? I wouldn't be surprised if the weight saving is around 800 grams in total. Thanks for your help. regards, Dub
  6. Will this event be repeated soon? I was at The Vlei 24HR.
  7. As I'm looking into getting my own Anthem X29 1, I've read a fair amount of reviews and there is a couple of riders mentioning the crank hitting obstacles. It seems most of the posts are from riders that converted from another platform or saying it was sorted out after time when they got accustomed to the different riding style. I'm getting my Anthem this Friday...
  8. Cool Cool. Glad I could help out.
  9. One of the best threads for this time of year.
  10. Seems like I missed a big one this year, was awesome last year.
  11. If you are looking for a lighter tire that doesn't wear that bad. Look at the Conti Attack tire. Thin sidewall, but decent protection on the road surface. Would like to put a set of GP's on my Shamals, but it's quite expensive, currently training and riding on a Gatorskin (back) Attack (front) combo.
  12. Interestingly I switched from a Spark Medium 26er to a Niner EMD9. I'm hitting rocks probably around 90% less than what I did on my full suspension, with basically all my lines changing at GK to where the 26er would have hit rocks. Both cranks arms were the same length. Also the Scott was a medium and the Niner is a Large.
  13. Good day Clive, What distance is the longer race? Also, is it a single or double loop? Do you charge extra for line entries?
  14. Sorry! My DBN trip turned out quite the opposite as expected.
  15. Re-lubing chain. I use Rock 'n Roll Extreme, let that do it's job by cleaning the chain and getting inside the chain, then seal it up with Squirt and let it dry.
  16. With regards to the chain, I would suggest you take it off and drop it a tub with paraffin. Do a pressure hose wash on your bike and then to lube all the pivots, RD, FD with a decent wet lube like finish line extreme wet lube. Also look at servicing bearings of wheels, cleaning cable inners. And don't forget to clean the inside of the brake calipers including the brake pads. Nothing eat brakes pads as fast as mud.
  17. Goeie een. Tenminste gedra ek myself nie soos een nie.
  18. As far as I'm concerned MTB'ing became a juppy sport. If you want to meet the "good guys" riding go to the DnD night rides or 24Hour races.
  19. Thanks. I will look into it.
  20. I'm throughout the week in Amanzimtoti and that weekend in Winkelspruit with MTB friends.
  21. Thanks. It's much appreciated.
