  1. Normally ride with a partner/group on long rides, but must admit I've been enjoying these long rides on a Saturday alone allot. Don't know if I will tackle a solo road ride to Cullinan/Harties and back, or a solo MTB ride out to Nkwe and back, that seems a bit dodgy. But a 3.5hour ride is really fun, just you and the bike and your thoughts. I realized your long rides can't be dependent on someone else's motivation to go and ride.
  2. I'm looking for a 40km entry for a friend if anyone can help out. PM me. Thanks.
  3. Anthem X29. It's designed to be a long ride cruiser, designed for all day riding and stage races. Lockout isn't necessary on climbs, the RP2/23 doesn't have a lockout feature, only "Pro Pedal" mode. I leave my RP23 in pro pedal mode all the time. The front fork has a through axle. (Not too sure about the 2013 models, but I would assume so) Maestro suspension makes use of sealed bearings, and is low maintenance. Maintenance is mostly dependent on riding conditions. I think in your case, I wouldn't worry too much about servicing the maestro suspension system often. Keep in mind that there is lots of bearings used in this suspension design and that replacing them will get a bit expensive. Buying bearings and doing a DIY job will cost you around R600. Hope this helps. My Anthem is the best bike I've ever owned.
  4. Awesome thread. Thanks Storm.
  5. Thanks for a good laugh!
  6. IDT is perfect for a structured interval program to use throughout the week. When training properly I'm between 3 and 5 times in the work week on my IDT and do my LSD/ Hill repeats/heavy rides over the weekend. Nothing beats good 90min interval sessions used right and structured with incremental added workloads and resting weeks. Also want to mention that it only starts to really transfer to real world riding after 6 weeks assuming you have a decent base fitness. So if you know how to use it, you can get allot done in relatively little time over the week. Starting to train again this year for Sabie I realized how hard intervals are at the beginning, but after the first week you break through, the workload gets harder but the perceived effort isn't proportionally the same. Also a great way to focus on pedaling technique and isolating problems and practicing them.
  7. Looking at the new Edge510 add, it looks like it can possibly do something similar?
  8. Well done!
  9. Ah! So you are saying I have to stick with my EMD9 race build after I just bought myself a Anthem X29? Not for the epic though but for stage racing and marathons.
  10. Crossmark Monorail combo sounds like your best bet with your budget.
  11. Quickly scanned the Bikeradar review. Not much to rave about if you already have a Edge 500 ( also own one ). Multiple screen configurations for different bikes is cool, something that I have been missing on my Edge.
  12. One awesome video! Any idea how much for the 510?
  13. So maybe create a thread with the name : "Jerome is a chop" and send him the link for it on the hub....
  14. Don't you know Single Speeds can do that? Very cool ride, now you got me to want one.
  15. I will be leaving the house on the road bike with a heavy heart on my way to Magnolia tomorrow morning. Will be joining the guys there, then off to see family on bike and then heading home. Don't think a training ride is in order for tomorrow. Dre, see you hopefully tomorrow. Hopelik gaan daar baie mense wees...
  16. Not the most durable but the Racing Ralph is still a good choice for XCM. Considering going RaRa at the back and Ikon at the front and after a while getting a WCS Shield Tire for the back.
  17. Would also be keen.
  18. I will honor him by training extra hard tonight. Was my MTB hero, such a great guy and role model. My prayers go out to family and friends.
  19. Congrats and thanks for the thread.
  20. I would assume an Aspen on the front will last allot longer than one on the back.
  21. This tire should be available , no EXO/EXC versions yet. I other words it comes in at the same spec and weight as the Ikon's I ride. 29X2.10 ( 52-622 ) Black 120 FOLDABLE 530 DUAL 65 eXC
  22. After some more reading, it seems an Ikon front Aspen rear or Ignitor front Aspen rear sounds like good options if looking to ride an Aspen on your bike.
  23. Aspens are notorious for their thin sidewalls. Actually forgot about the Aspen, will need to get my hands on one.
  24. Have to agree that the 3C on the Ikons are far superior to the Schwalbe tires mileage wise.
