Just shows how stupid a thing the curfew has been for quite some time now.

My kids are away using the Landy, so I'll have to dirty the Jeep first. Here's something different I tried recently.

This is just so ice cold cool, and not just because I'm a Lab fan!

The Black Eagles have sadly become quite scarce on Table Mountain over the last decade or so. I don't quite know why that is. Over Devils Peak, which is my own backyard, I could spot a pair nearly at will, often with a youngster too, circling the thermals. Now it is a very special occasion if I see a lone one. I haven't seen many in Tokai either, but I do spot the Fish Eagles there quite regularly.

I have been told it is a temporary thing, whatever it is.

Ai tog, that's too much of a rant for this early in the year...........I'm going to have a hernia before the end of the year if I don't calm down.........🤪

...........and I see the City is currently asking for suggestions on Future Transport Development.............and we are all asked to contribute re. possible non-motorized transport of the future, what and where we want! How about the idiots just fix what cycle lanes we have first, replace the broken fences with stronger barriers, move the vagrants and criminals away from where they cause trouble...........and THEN we'll tell them what to do next! Like making the whole of the CBD pedestrian, like tripling parking costs within the city centre, like fixing public transport, taking over the rail system and fixing that, cleaning up the bus system, getting the MyCity towards the airport working again, sorting out the taxi war..................THEN I'll tell them to build a cycle path from Westlake to the city centre, from Kayelitsha to town, from Durbanville to town.............all SEPARATE from existing roads, patrolled, secured and monitored to keep it safe. Oh, and a MyCity each for the Southern and Northern and Eastern Suburbs

Just check them in and they will convert them to fold-up wheels for you.🤪

Past the somewhat neglected and overgrown UCT jumps in my backyard. Covid, lockdowns, students studying remotely, the big fires and the rock hard clay of summer, all contributed to the dilapidated and overgrown state of the jumps, but that's all good, because I now have a solid excuse for not riding them and I don't have to admit what the real reason is, namely that they grew too big and scary for me over the years.

I "liked" it, but I really mean to say that's an impressive cut. 😬

I "liked" this, but experience over a few decades of using the mountain, taught me not to hold my breath and rather be a realist. I certainly no longer expect the politicians to fix anything and maintain it. Many a new strategy, unit, dogs, motorbikes, even e-bikes and rangers came and went over the years, simply because politicians and burocrats are useless at implimenting anything and following through. Usually, as soon as the news cameras disappeared and there is no more publicity to gain from it, the initiatives tend to fade and the criminals will still be there. Back to square one! Sadly! But I'm an eternal optimist, so I keep hoping that this will be the real fix! Edit: Perhaps the City of Cape Town, SAPS and SANParks should look at what Tokai MTB did in Upper Tokai over the past 5 years or so. Basically they made no big hoo-haa, but with a small dedicated team and some consistent presence, they have basically kept that section of the mountain crime free. It can be done on a larger scale.

After the very first one, I got home wearing the Eroica Tshirt they gave us. My wife gave me a skew look and asked what kind of bike race calls itself Erotica SA..........she since came to love our yearly outing to Montagu and is egging me on to enter for an Italian or Spanish one, maybe even the Limburg version.......of course Covid truly stuffed our plans up for now.

That is one of the "BE WIDE AWAKE" places on the Atlantic route. Another is the traffic lights on the Hout Bay side of Suikerbossie.

Personally, perhaps because it is year-end and I am unusually grumpy, I think a handgranade in the saddle that can be activated with an app...............bad thoughts..............fight them..............ban them..................aaaaah hell..................too difficult.............🤪
