1. Tried very hard to replace my 5.10 Impact Low’s and eventually settled on Ride Concepts Hellion and the Bontragers mentioned above. A surprise entry was from Etnies but sadly they run a bit small and become very uncomfortable after 15km. Definitely want to try the 2FOs still.
2. Thanks for reminding me that I bought a Lubretto. The lube solution for a problem that didnt exist.
3. A home mechanic that can’t do his own tubeless work needs a bit of practice. No fancy and honestly wasteful packaging is going to fix that. Nothing wrong with the solution that Enduro Seal has. Reused that bottle and tube so many times.
4. These grip plenty though. Really comfortable shoe though. Not too stiff either. I was advised to size up since they run a bit small. Glad I did.
5. 5 year intervals. Decided to bleed them for the sake of bleeding and the fluid was hardly discolored.
6. I use the biggest OneUp EDC pump. Works great. CO2 head and storage for plugs, plug tool etc.
7. https://www.chamberlains.co.za/quick-fist-original-rubber-clamps-25-57mm-2-pack-10010-1084349 Here is your solution at a fraction of the price. Fits a Fox 34 or Pike perfectly. Thule can go fly a kite in a thunderstorm.
8. First thing that changed today. Still fasting 18/6 but changed what I eat when I feed. Completely cutting processed and refined everything and doing balanced meat/fish/veg diet.
9. Cell signal can be iffy in places. Riding alone is always a risk in case of a crash but general safety seems to be a problem. No reported incidents to my knowledge.
10. The 23km loop is fantastic and thanks to the extra oxygen down there the climbs are definitely a lot better than up here in the smog. Trails are extremely well maintained and marked out so even a solo ride is perfectly good.
11. Friends kinda convinced me to join them for this weekend. While it isn't the most brutal of distances (44km and 66km +- but with more climbing than I've ever done in higher altitudes than what I'm used to) I can't say I'm the strongest rider at the moment. I'm sure I can manage a 40km with around 500m of climbing at a max of 15km/h pace at the moment. Paltry FTP of 180w trying to pilot my 110kg 1.79m ass up hills. You can see where I'm going with this. At my disposal I have my smart trainer with the Wahoo Systm package and trails for the weekend ranging from Red Barn to Buffelsdrift etc. Big thing is to shed at least 5kg before the time at the very least. Anything more will be a massive bonus. Any recommendations on what type of training would benefit me in the next 7 weeks +-? It would be 6 if I factor in 1 rest week before the event.
12. That group no longer exists.
13. Always negotiate. No harm in asking. Where is the bike based? Maybe a more experienced hubber can go with to check it out. If not, inspect every weld. A dirty bike could also be hiding cracks. If the drivetrain is rusted it means the bike was standing and most likely missed a service or two. Check shock and fork legs for scratches and clear signs of wear. Could indicate a lack of services and big money to spend. Also leaking oil from lower legs and seals Looks for cracks in the tires and feel for loose spokes. Take both wheels off and feel if the axles are smooth. Pull on the cranks from side to side to check for loose bottom bracket bearings. Test ride. Shift through every possible gear. Test the brakes. All of the above gives you negotiating power or a reason to walk away It is an older bike so things will need replacing so have some spare cash stashed away.
14. Full tear down and rebuild service including suspension. Only to find a cracked pedal axle … 🤔
15. Asking for a friend. What lube did you use to make it swell up like that 🥷
16. After listing a brand new xxxxxxx for 50% of retail price iS tHaT yOuR bEsT pRiCe? “Not Donald, the crack I smoked made me list it for an amount that I definitely did not want”
17. What do you want to use it for? A gentle ride around the neighborhood sure. Anything offroad and I’d be very very gentle with it.
this e-bike will offer the cyclist hours fun while being suitable for tarmac or little off-road trails.
18. Thanks for bumping this thread. I forgot I bought this.
19. Where the division between bru and boet and china happens.
20. I've seen them in person. Didn't look very stable to be honest. They way I see it. I carry R230k in bikes. R10k for the Thule was money well spent. Spend where it matters.
21. Roosting those berms and skidding the corners. Another thing is cutting corners and making your own line. Riding around puddles or plowing through muddy trails that shouldn't be ridden to begin with. eBikes don't damage trails, inconsiderate riders do.
22. If you are in Centurion GP you are welcome to pop in and use my workshop.
23. Agree on the wheels. Replace when they die eventually and even then the weight savings with carbon doesn't justify the cost. Carbon wheel money does buy a lot of other lekker things.
