  1. Has anyone ever gone to their physical store and tried to lowball them? Take R5k hard cash, lay it on the workshop counter and start the chat over the Cannondale they have with a R20k sticker on it. and then get all antsy when they shake their heads.
  2. Because it's spam. They just play shotgun by offering peanuts and hope something sticks*. Case in point - bike advertised for R36k, didn't sell, so relisted at R32k and sold for R30k. within 30 minutes bikemarket offered a limited time offer of R13k5 and second time R12k. Now I wonder, who knows the market better, me or the "professional resellers"? I don't know what their listing price would have been. *where the real irritation comes is that they have jumped into bikehub and with a dedicated person watching the classifieds, they snap up the bargains before joe public can jump in. flipping it for a tidy profit doesn't really add any value most of the time. but this ship sailed a long time ago.
  3. ultra or 21? probably didn't look hard enough for that, hopefully better comms than epic if that is the case - these things do happen. Social media commentary is not kind from what I can see. This is quite funny though. Current race director has basically zero running pedigree, and Running mann found this recent rant from her against 2Oceans. So the people who didn't get medals are quoting her "I paid FULL price I expect FULL service"
  4. I don't think that is enough, to just somme make it work on the day. Comrades is coming quickly, do the best recovery you can for now, but conventional wisdom would say at least another marathon distance training effort in a month's time. Some people have so much confidence in their ability. With 15 million batches, you don't quite get the comrades drama. https://www.facebook.com/TwoOceansMarathon/videos/587496460972500
  5. Depends who is asking and what level lockdown we are on. just back from a homebrew festival.... Now we're talking, next up we need to discuss their other event that ends at our closest star!!!
  6. Have you guys ever considered changing the route to actually finish at the sea, or the name of the race to reflect something a bit more accurate?
  7. As an average allrounder, TSC was the one event i was almost guaranteed to actually get prizemoney. I did 5/6 as a solo. Was an awesome event, with the distances the right amount for you to hack your way before moving onto the next leg. I have considered doing a guerilla version, get 10 guys together, chat to arabella for water access and bob's your uncle. but early january is a bitch to get yourself ready for. https://www.entryninja.com/events/81250-oak-valley-24-hour-grand-prix get ready
  8. So far that MSR podium is the only blotch on his season. So much winning.
  9. Brazil have definitely stolen our thunder here by securing this 2week slot of moving the entire circus to their equivalent of Nelspruit (or whatever else fits). Who did they pay off for this?
  10. i wouldn;t trust anything from IOL but this is notable from the organisers. i took the option of substituting my ultra entry for a beer festival in Greyton instead - good move!
  11. cycling mikey on youtube
  12. there is a crowd starting soon from FH athletics club. there is a whatsapp group, i can try get you on it (me too actually)
  13. what's happening here? guess not much
  14. they were making top of the range bikes at launch, now just hyperama https://www.makro.co.za/sports-outdoor-travel/sports/cycling/bicycle/20-50cm-bicycle/volcan-20-comet-mtb/p/000000000000455976_EA
  15. Adult frames crack occasionally, kids bikes are so over engineered that this never happens. And they are heavy as boat anchors. Looking at this top tube makes me think again!
  16. ok. can you split the flight 4 ways too then? let's pad this one out then. Cape town airport to plett/beacon isle in rental car - 5:54h according to google cape town airport: arrive 90 minutes before flight leaves (you have 4 bikes to check in) flight time:1hour land, collect bikes, get to rental car and on road: 1 hour (conservative) george to plett/beacon isle 90 minutes total travel time 5:00 seems like a lot of effort to save 54 minutes. edit: I will give you one thing though, 1way flight to George and riding back from there does seem quite rockstar.
  17. https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2021-03-20-top-sa-runner-beats-r780000-claim-by-spectator-she-knocked-over/ shows how it gets dragged out over the years, already gone through high court (I see WPA were implicated too initially). The spectator seems to have died from an unrelated cause.
  18. This is a damn good question! WCG don't seem to do much of the actual finer homework on this route. There are plenty of people doing it, so there could well be a bike friendly shuttle service that is just not advertised much to the wider market. https://capecycleroutes.co.za/route/cross-cape-route the fb page they have is sort of monitored, you might have some luck here. hello@wesgro.co.za finally @Dom N it's not "The Plett". unless you are referring to a fancy hotel and stay there enough to give it a nickname. If that's the case, then try 2oceansvibe airways rental car for 4 bikes? that sounds like a really expensive way to save about 2 hours of travel time.
  19. Not small for the runner, and imagine her legal fees over 10 years? I don't know how the judge decides to split the blame 70/30. If you're doing a race, you have right of way. Spectator must open their eyes and not do stupid stuff. If it's not on closed roads then the event needs to cough up out of their insurance. Opi oma this crap.
  20. No creativity needed. None whatsoever. Just do no nonsense roadblocks at 5am on payday Saturday am. Get lawyers, doctors and the rest there so there are no slip ups. You will slam drunk a dozen drivers each month. Word will get out, and then the game will change a bit. That's where technology is obvious. Get cameras, lpr software and build a database of drivers who are possible repeat offenders. Then you know where to find them on a payday Saturday am.
  21. Remember how people think the Argus is always windy? Three great years in a row and the memory still lives on. That's anecdotal data. Sure, ATP got two years in a row in monster weather. I did both, it was fun. (My bike was fine). But is that normal? Long term weather data has 4.2 days of precipitation August for Swellendam. That's actual data. 23. I'm 184cm. My 2013 RM Vertex is an XL and fits me well.
  24. The answer seems fairly obvious to me. there are okes dropping massive ZARs on doing the epic. They get everything from the latest SWorks (that not even those red jersey guys on the podium can justify this to their sponsors), training plans, nutrition plans, bling training camps, camp upgrade everything, massage. but they don't seem to think that entry level skills training is worth the effort/money? A simple 3/4 sessions with a competent rider/coach will get them down the hills quicker and with less effort. and ENJOY it more. Seems like the easiest bang for buck, or maybe I am missing something? the other option is to name and shame, or get more of this content out. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2122325068001413
  25. height/leg length is probably a better indication than age. if my maths is correct, you put an 8yr old on a 26" and skipped 24" outright. I would guess she is pretty lanky to make that work. I am on the opposite end of the scale. my 10yr old is still on his 20". we got him a 24" but he didn;t want to move over. That then got stolen before we sold the 20" so he's back on that for now (want to get a decent bike, and they are hard to find). I don't believe in buying bikes a size too big with the intention to grow into. if you buy and sell 2nd hand then the hit you take is not massive. also, you can learn a lot on the "riding with kids thread" edit:link added
