  1. Orbea Orca Gold Still working on the costings, the lower specced model I have just had a look at is £4300. This is more than likely in the region of about £6700, but might be looking at the Lightweight Rims instead. This IS my next project (Winter), build up in pieces with the Frameset being the last addition. Hopefully by next summer, she will be complete. I WILL add pics and keep you updated on the build
  2. I know ... you see, besides the crappy weather, we can at least pay some decent prices for our "needs"... Got them from a small little Bike Shop about a mile from my place called K Cycles! Aparently they have been running form 20 years odd already. Rode with the original owner over the weekend and sh*t... at 60 odd, still rides like a legend!!
  3. Get them from the UK if you can! I just paid a miniscule £137 for my Radar Paths with Red Iridium Lenses. Down from £215, on special from my LBS
  4. With you on that one.... did that ride more than a few times .... NICE bit of climbing, miss it like crazy!
  5. Wishful thinking Average is about 17 degrees and think I haev ridden once without leg and arm warmers . That day it was about 24 degrees, but felt like Cape Town at 35 degrees!!! Stunning riding out here though, long roads, little traffic out the back roads and when there are cars, they pass on the OTHER side of the road Miss SA and the sun, but LOVE riding here
  6. Stopped smoking, immigrated, got a new job and lost 5 kgs in the last four months (62kg's) with LOTS of training!!!! Righos and the Bwlch circuits 3 times a week will do that to you!! (do yourself a quick favour and google search for these) Missing the SA sun though, its wet out here
  7. Wish I was there to do the DC, might just need to make a turn back to the WC next year sometime to do some riding
  8. So has the cape wind not let up??? Been hearing that you have had some super weather though guys!! I have had 3 days of sunshine in 2 weeks, BUT have come to terms with riding in the rain..... AWESOME out here, but missing the Durbanville Hills LOTSS...... Chat soon chaps and keep us "foreigners" in the loop
  9. Hows THIS for AwEsOmE and I mean this MOST sincerely.... just in case the gent in question is here on thehub... I gave a lady a quicklink when her chain broke. Her hubby turned around, came back to see what the problem was and said to me "I will get youa replacement". I was like dont stress its a nothing little link...... a moth later, stadning in the start chute, the gentleman comes up to me and says, been looking for you the last couple of weeks..... here is you replacement quicklink!!!!!!:thumbup: THE coolest of coolest things ever... DAMN impressed with the Cape Town Roadies... they rock and I will miss the guys LANK!!!
  10. Enjoy guys....... my bike has just been collected and will be leaving for Manchester shortly . Was sad saying goodbye for now, but will see her in a couple of weeks over there. Then to rebuild her. Hope that you guys have a truly fantastic ride, really I do. ESPECIALLY HeadHunter, enjoy mate. We will catch up on the Island over there, maybe meet up at a Crit or two. MUST keep in touch via here... Let me know how your flight goes (as I believe we are going with the same airline) and be safe Brad
  11. I would ride the Concept C50 Clinchers on Powerway Hubs...... oh yes... I do already
  12. If you dont want to chage the pads, then you going to need to get a rim like the Cosmics that also have an Alu braking surface. If you use the same pads on the Carbon Braking Surface, you will cook the rims and eat throught the carbon . I found that changin the pads is such a quick job, max 5 mins to change a night before a race is NOT a big deal.
  13. CCD for 50mm and 38mm FULL Carbon racign wheels. VERY strong and hugely improved braking surface.
  14. mmmmm. You are right, so many options open to you.... Splat was right though straight off the bat.... you dont have any serious wind up there, so go with the 50mm as a given, nice forward slicing action. I would STAY AWAY from Tubbies UNLESS.... you are a pro with a back up vehicle, have LOTS of cash to replace wheels, you only going to be racing with them. Otherwise, stick with Clinchers, cheaper tyres, easy to fix punctures, NOT tubeless, but who cares, I would rather ride than walk. There are a good few carbon deep sections out there and her on the hub as well, some good imports. Use the guys that youw ould feel the most comfortable with and here the price is right. Look at the braking surface of the Carbon rims though, make sure that it is slightly thicker than the normal face of the rim. Good luck, happy hunting and get hold of CCD if you want really great quality at a VERY affordable price with FANTASTIC service
  15. 2 min job to true the wheel, but fact is, it shouldn't have left the shop untrue. Did you take it for a ride to make sure all was 100%?
  16. Admittedly , but it was so close to perfect man and just me and my thoughts for 4 hours.
  17. Gents... I am going to pack in and leave this ride. I did a nice 108km today, round half the peninsula. Rode out from Edgemead, over to Noordhoek famstall and back. I stopped on to of Chappies, said my farewell to Hout Bay and even shed a little tear. I think I was blessed today with perfect weather, warm, windless and little traffic. I say all the lovelies for the last time in Camps Bay, skipped a couple of heart beats along the promenade. I was just coming along the cycle lane and thought to myself, it simply cannot get better than that, the perfect day, my last ride in SA for a while and I rode it without leg and arm warmers . I dont want to ruin that....
  18. That can only work for SS's. Going to take a whole world of innovation to be able to get that right for a normal "geared" bike.
  19. This is both a testament to the product and the service that I have been fortunate enough to get from one of my fellow hubbers. Thought that I would draw up a little review for the average cyclist out there. Instead of high end 'bikeradar" type reviews, this is from me, just the ordinary rider. I bought a set of rims from CCD in September of last year.. the Concept C50 clinchers. I had never had the opportunity to ride carbon deep section rims in the past, so riding these rims was somewhat of a pleasure. Until a little over a month ago I had had no problems, then out of the blue on a particulary steep decent, I ran into a spot of trouble and cooked the rear rim. Why did it happen? Was it a manufacturing problem? A design flaw? My own carlessness, maybe sitting on the rear brakes too much and cooking the rim? I cant be sure what, but I am tending to lean towards the latter. Anyhow, I got hold of CCD and just advised him of what happend, not expecting anything, just a courtesy mail. Next thing, Leonard was on the phone to me, finding out what happend. Discussed the situation with me and said he will look into it. I did not expect anything. Next day, L:eonard on the phone again, "Brad.... I will replace the set for you, could have been a problem witht he side wall, we have changed the design slightly to rectify this".... WOW!! I have ridden these rims for 8 months plus... a demo set and he replaced the rims without any further questions... THIS IS WHAT CCD IS ALL ABOUT! Service adn believing in his product. So, now comes the review of my NEW rims. We had the hoops built up with the exsiting hus that I had purchased from CCD, Powerway Hubs. They are exceptionally smooth and spin for a LONG time. Anodiszed red, so pretty personal. I had the rims personalised further by asking Leonard to add the black Aero Spokes with Red Anodised Nipples to match the hubs. THIS IS A STANDOUT, personalised rims that ONLY I have. I KNOW that Leonard will personalise your rims for you! SO, now the feedback.... What a remarkable rim. Stiff, LIGHT and rolls forever. That is all I can say. I have now ridden two different rims with the same specs (50mm) and these new ones are fantastic, the braking surface is re-inforced, slightly thickier without compromising the weight of a shade over 1600grams for the set. They seem stiffer and more responsive. For the flats, the 50mm are fantastic and cut through the air like butter, maybe look at the 38mm for the climbing and windy CAPE DAYS. They Carbon is stong and light and the finish of the rim is immaculate and professional. Sealed Decals, true and light.... What more could you ask for. For the price you pay... you are NOT going to be left wondering about your purchase, these rims are without a doubt THE best value for money and shoot WAY above its price range. You could well spend double the price on a set of rims and get less feedback. Come now people, good decals, great finish to the product, excpetionally good value... PROUDLY South African entrepeneur with an absolutel FOCUS on his clients...... If you are looking for a rim for summer.... give CCD (right here on thehub) a call..... Concept Carbon Rims
  20. So am I , but I am going round the Peninsula again. Gonna do Kloofnek and over into the Camps Bay and continue round to Noorhoek Farmstall. BEAUTY day out there and might be the last ride I have on my own bike in SA. My bike is getting collected on Friday for Shipping on Monday morning
  21. I cant do this ride but I am trying to get a loan bike for the weekend. If I get that right, I will be in . Same route as the "Peninsula Tour"? So starting Virgin Active Green Point? Had an amazing ride out the Chappies on Saturday morning, one of the best mornings I have had the pleasure of enjoying up there Sorry, posted at the same time.
  22. MDW Quick one.... Been an avid 32gi user since last year, but leaving our shores shortly. You must be on the know about any products that would work ont he same level as your product in the UK. Please share with me if you dont mind (PM me). Alternatively, if I am able to secure a source for 32gi in the UK, that would be the best result
