  1. haven't heard about the thermal cutout thing. i do have some firsthand experience with the unit. I'd say for the moment Solar charging is a gimmick. on a hot cloudless day on a 3 hour ride in JHB i might get 5 minutes extra battery on a unit that last for days regardless of the solar. The only pro i found with the solar is it measures sun exposure and puts a value to it. its interesting, but once again, who cares? what are you going to do? shorten your planned workout? we all wear high factor suncream so not much more you can do there. the other issue i had with the unit is its size, its lovely, and gives a super clear image. but it only fits on its own mount. all my other garmin mounts didn't work as the unit would touch my bars and not allow me to turn it into place, ie they were to short. so if you have multiple bikes be ready to fork out more for extra mounts that are long enough to allow you to turn it in to lock in place. this was really frustrating on 2 of my bikes with their own proprietary mounts. i had no way of getting the unit to fit without resorting to those ugly elastic type mounts on the bars. finally if your bike has a proprietary garmin mount check with the manufacturer if it will hold the 1040 unit. it is heavy and half of them are not designed for such a weighty unit and will eventually fatigue. finally as a unit its excellent to work with. nice bright display that is easy to read. has more functions than you can wave a stick at and it pretty to boot. apart from the above issues i highly recommend it, or alternatively i highly recommend the non-solar version. just be aware of the mounting issue. as a side, i am currently riding with a 130 plus unit. and it does everything i need and more. radar, live track, power, HR, hell its even compatible with supersapiens. i never use maps so its perfect. battery in good for 2x long rides on the weekend. i also have a Hammerhead Karoo 2 that is gathering dust for the moment, until it has better live track i do not see myself using it much. but also an excellent unit.
  2. Parlee do an adapter to allow owners to put the PRO VIBE EVO bars on their RZ7 bikes.
  3. Will give OP a call and chat. at R40k we could potentially do a Parlee RZ7 frameset. super premium brand, super aero, and comfort wise is one of the best in the business.
  4. Here we go: OrangeSeal As used by Bora and ISN in all the classics
  5. and here i am linking my scale to auto update my Zwift weight to ensure its spot on... i even go so far as to ramp the trainer effect up to 100% to ensure a 8% hill actually feels and rides like one. i have competed in C group races and nearly won a couple. then as my power increased it was only right i move up to B group racing - where i was promptly smoked each and ever time. that said i still had fun forming a group and racing the guys who had equal strength to me back in 30th to 60th position. i still do have fun, except these days it mid C pack
  6. the only problem i have with my Karoo 2 is the live tracking feature. it only send out the link once on setup and never again vs garmin that sends a link for every activity. the plus with Garmin is your loved ones know instantly that you have decided to go out on a ride. with the karoo 2 they will have no idea unless you actually tell them. and then they have to search through emails to find that link that was sent to them 100 years ago.
  7. I bought mine direct from hammerhead with no issues. you forgot to mention this device comes with double the warranty of any other unit. 2 years!
  8. anyone keen on Ultegra di2 12s or Force AXS 12s for R39999?
  9. give that man a bells
  10. How about one of these with a MSRP of GBP4814 going for R28999 (1400GBP) https://www.bespokecycling.com/bike-selector/products/parlee-chebacco-xd-le-frameset-1?colour=Black+Water&size=S https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/gravel-bike-frames/575709/parlee-chebacco-56-new
  11. on the wheel side of things - i have found deeper wheels make for a harsher ride as they have less vertical compliance. best we've tried are ENVE AG25's - they are expensive, but i am sure cheaper wheels can be found with similarly low depth to help with the compliance. from a weight side of things, for reference. Parlee Checbaco with the carbon cockpit, 2x Force AXS with power, ENVE AG 25 wheels and 45C tires comes out to 8kgs the Bossi Grit SX Titanium bike with 2x Force AXS with power, ENVE AG 25 wheels and 45C tires comes out to 9.1kgs
  12. was any reason given for the postponement?
  13. not at all - pop me a DM and we can chat just been a busy day
  14. Heres some reading for you https://bikerumor.com/parlee-chebacco-xd-le-review-new-sky-ridge-carbon-gravel-wheels/ https://parleecycles.com/why-parlee/ Parlee is a ultra high end brand based in the States - their claim to fame being the first frames to sub 900g and 800g respectively. They also have been building fully customised bikes for years - as in measure you up, take notes on what you like for ride feel and fit and customise everything from tube lengths to any angles you can think of. The pricing of these bikes historically is what has stopped these being available in RSA unofficially they have been raced at the top end of the cycling world - painted as other brands... (this was when weight was THE thing) as for sizing - the best is to give me your Inseam measurement to get an accurate initial sizing - PM me and we can have a look at it
  15. As a side, i have a Size 56 and Size 52 Parlee Chebacco in stock that will be going on Black Friday Special. this is really one of the best Gravel bikes out there have Rival AXS, Force AXS and Ultegra di2 12s as build options
  16. i have loaded up a few good deals on bikehub - while not officially black Friday stuff. it is a lot less than normal retail
  17. i'm hoping he means he pumps them every three days...
  18. just think, this all could have been avoiding by using BSC....
  19. i've yet to have a Edge device make it out of warranty without needing a replacement. 510, 520 and 530. in total 4 times with those devices i've since moved on to Hammerhead Karoo 2 - about the same price. the key difference is the warranty is double that of Garmin. 2 years vs 1 year. the live track is not as good on the Karoo - it sends out an email ONCE went first setup, and never again. so your loved ones are never informed you have left on a ride and instead need to track down an ancient email to actually follow you. this is the only reason i would recommend Garmin over the Karoo
  20. Another own goal by JHB government. sorry to hear about this - seems insane they can raise all those points when the river itself is polluted beyond rehabilitation.
  21. Use this. would be interesting to see what pressures you get. my bets are at least 1 bar lower in pressure https://axs.sram.com/guides/tire/pressure
  22. Not sure i like this link... it totally omits the rims inner width which has a huge impact on tire volume. gave me figures for 28mm higher than max inflation figures for my zipp wheels. i'd rather use the zipp calculator - seems more comprehensive
  23. have any details on the perp? Bike brand, helmet colour, club gear? def use strava - you should be able to pin point the group pretty easy and then use any of those contact to try get further info
  24. Hi All, our emails had a DNS issue that caused them all to not direct the right way. Lanoysports email address is now once again up and running. sorry about any issues!
  25. pay the extra money - all news XC bikes are moving to 120mm.
