  2. http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/city-centre/pinarello-dogma-sky-60-1-2010-50cm/1001108609570910241128009 so this is a bargain?! nat... anyone wanting to have some fun?
  3. Things to think about What do you want to spend? New or used? Weight - both yours and the wheels. Most wheels have a weight limit. Clincher or tubby? And why carbon? There are plenty great aluminum wheels out there!
  4. i have been slowly upgrading my bike for years. i move and change with the times trying to keep up with the curve.. go for frame first, the fit is vital and will benefit massively on your sons ability to sprint and climb correctly and to maximum effect. take it from me, i rode a frame one size to big for me for far to long. when i finally got my sized frame i could not believe how much extra i was able to get to the road! then: when you next can then change components. maybe buy a full bike, swap over the gear you no longer want and then sell a full bike - makes it easier to sell compared to trying to sell bits and pieces. good luck!
  5. i just bought the Kask Mojito, very comfortable helmet! R2100 is RR, but you can find it cheaper. in fact i know there is a white/red Medium one going for R1650. pm me if this interests you. its not uber light, but its lekker on the kop! before this i had a Uvex, its still in great condition, the padding i found to be a bit hard. i imagine a helmet is personal preference, i have a skinny head. thus most of the Giros i cant wear. horses for courses
  6. Hi all, is it at all possible to do a very late substitution? my other half has a nasty chest infection that has ruled her out. i don't want her entry to go to waste. per the argus site it states substitutions are closed. is it possible to somehow do a very late substitution? maybe at the expo? Thanks in advance
  7. last year i did a 3:37:57 from BB group on a steel 11kg plus SS. i am in R group this year.. not good enough for a sub 3 sadly... but still going to ride a SS. I plan on moving up groups with the goal of finishing in sub 3 on a SS. the first sub 3 i did was on a De Rosa Wind in 2006. i don't think its to difficult a task to do on a heavy old bike, i think its rather the comfort level whilst doing it. ie you wont arrive at the end of the race totally wrecked.
  8. i vote this best thread of the day.. and second the deepheat treatment

  11. Hi All, as the title says i need help in finding someone who can make up a few customised kits for me. the kits are for the members of http://www.justtheone.org.za we are not looking to make money off the kits and they will be sold to our members for use at big events (94.7) to raise awareness for our charity and cause. i would like a good quality kit but obviously need to keep prices as low as i can. please can you post or send me links/emails to anyone who might be able to assist me? thanks in advance for the help!
  12. Nothing beats the comfort of dual sus!
  13. Went riding in the park 2 weekends past, was rather sad to see it had deteriorated so much. The intermediate paths that used to be a decent challenge were very easy. With experts paths giving some challenge, however this was mostly due to them being overgrown. I'm not trying to berate the park, but it's certainly no longer a place one can sharpen up on technical skills. And certainly not as good as it once was. I got the distinct feeling of a place that is run down and no longer under any guidance. Am I the only one who feels this way or have others experienced the same?

  18. nice one! did argus on a fixie last year, was an epic experience. suikerbossie killed me! at the top i was just starting to cramp!
  19. Ride Style: Lightweight, i tend to spin at 90-100rpm Ride Terrain: Cross country more than anything. most technical stuff i do is the stuff they throw into cross country races. Riding Position: i am no pro, but no slouch either. i am flexible and getting low is no problem. but if i'm not really racing is it necessary? i mostly just enjoy carving up a few trails with mates. so that makes for small wheel, then big wheel, followed by indifferent. hence my and i think most peoples issue when they fall into the shorter people category.
  20. thanks for this, its something i need to actually pay some attention to. i have yet to have the need to dismount on a accent, but then again the accents i have done have not been overly steep or technical. i'm actually going to go out of my way to test this as its a very good point. indeed, its not as straightforward as people might think. i have short legs. so much so that riding a KTM 200 motorbike, i drop it often in slow technical sections just because i cant get a foot on the ground! very frustrating i'm going to research the hell out of this and will report back. it seems alot of people have the same issue as me.
  21. i have gone to a bike shop, that just confused me more. i was told i should take a small frame, and then i was told that to squeeze the wheels into a small frame the dimensions had to be compromised. so i can get the right size and then have to live with compromises due to it. why could i not be just an inch or so taller!
  22. thanks for the inputs so far, i suspected the small 29er would be awkward. a medium looks like its just ok, a small i suspect would look very odd and might not handle as well due to the compromises? i know that i tried my dads medium niner air niner, that felt way to big, whereas the giant feels ok compared.
  23. i hear you.. i just know from experience with road bikes that to big a frame is a problem. wandering if its the same with mtbs, will it not be easier for me to control and throw into a corner if its the correct size? i must mention that i have short legs. i ride a 52 road bike.
  24. Hi All, i want a bit of help with making a decision on buying a 29er mtb for myself. i am 1.71m tall with fairly short legs. currently i have a medium Giant XTC composite 29er it feels ok to ride, but i suspect a small would be ideal. i have bought this bike, but need to buy 2 more 29ers as i am helping friends get into the sport. (helping them buy bikes) one of my mates is a taller than me and has expressed interest in the Giant. he would be a perfect fit for it. so i could sell my Giant on and look out for a smaller frame, or maybe i could try the 27.5 any comments/thoughts from those in the know? is a 27.5 maybe a better bet for the shorter guy? is going for a small 29er frame going to mess with frame dimensions? is a medium frame actually ok in reality? i also have the added issue of wanting to buy 2nd had to help keep costs down. this poses the issue of finding a small carbon 29er. hens teeth i tell you! Thanks!
  25. Even the above are the worlds kakest medals. My old man has multiple national champs medals. You won't believe how crap they are. Just another place where CSA is cutting corners
