  1. next issue. according to www.competitivecyclist.com i fall directly in-between a small and a medium size frame would going for the smaller frame be the better option rather than riding a frame ever so slightly to large?
  2. so the carbon 3 is out... and the 2013 Carbon 2 can be kitted with XT for about the difference in the bikes... R9k for full XT from CWC cycles... wheel wise which are better? the easton EA70's or the crest XTR's?
  3. should i be concerned about 90mm travel on the flash over the 100mm on the Giant?
  4. Hi All, need some advice. i currently ride a 2012 Giant XTC Composite 0 (standard kit with tubeless conversion) and i am seriously tempted by the follow 3 Cannondales 2014 Cannondale F29 Carbon 3 2013 Cannondale F29 Carbon 2 2014 Cannondale F29 Carbon 2 All of the above have the same carbon frames and forks. The 2014 Carbon 3 has basic WTB wheels. and i like the paint job. spec'd is mid level Sram. allu bars etc then the 2013 Carbon 2 has Stans ZTR Crest wheels. carbon crank and bars. save seatpost. Sram kitted. and to boot its not that much more than the 2014 Carbon 3. only think is the white grey is def not my first choice in bike colours... Finally the 2014 Carbon it is kitted with XT throughout. easton ea70 xtc wheels. and otherwise the same as the 2013 model.. its a fair bit more expensive over the 2013 model BUT its the paint job i want... so is it worth moving to cannondale? i hear once you go cannondale you never go back. or is my current steed more than adequate?
  5. www.bicyclebluebook.com might be worth a look. i find the prices on there way to high for the South African Market.
  6. SRM with clavicula crank for the win!
  7. soon!
  8. if anyone is interested https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/99642-campagnolo-10-speed-record-titanium-power-crank/
  9. i did this a few months ago. record 10 speed is a fair bit lighter than 11 chorus. and if well maintained there is not to much to choose between them in feel and movement. i do however prefer the newer STI's. also something to note: the record 10 speed has a carbon front and rear derailleur, the chorus 11 is not carbon. hard to say if it is a upgrade or just a change, or maybe a downgrade due to the extra weight? this is a call you are going to have to make IMO having the extra gear hasn't made any impact on my riding whatsoever.
  10. R5k gives you the opportunity to look at it... once....
  11. interesting to hear we are not the only ones experiencing issues with shimano mtb pedals. my ole man is on his 3rd set of XTR pedals this year!
  12. YOLO!
  13. this rule is in place to stop riders from trying to ride the route at different stages during the year. the farmers only open up their land for this race. if people started abusing this the cape epic would have a hard time convincing the farmers to let them use their land.
  14. Thanks, nice to see we are not the only ones who have found this
  15. Lol, no they were absolutely identical in every way thats why i am questioning it, the differences in weight really has us quite confused
  16. So, my ole man is currently building up a marathon bike for World champs and to defend his XC title in Norway later this year. in the process we weighed everything that went on his bike using a medical grade scale. to our surprise the 4 brand new racing ralphs were significantly different in weight from one another i'm talking a spread of just under 100 grams. so from 580 grams to 678 grams its got us wandering how there can be around 15% difference? poor quality control maybe? who knows. it doesn't bother us really, but it is a lot more than we ever expected Anyone else done this exercise?
  17. how about my SRM powercrank V5? full kit for R5k?
  18. Hi guys, My Thule raceway was nicked out of my complex sometime this last week. It's the 3 bike version. If anyone sees anything up for sale like it that seems suspicious please do let me know Regards
  19. my question to you. i had the same happen to me with a hijacking. except i was riding up a dik hill through trees. okes popped out from behind the trees. zero chance of doing anything in that circumstance. and then they find your gun... i fully understand if you have the right gun training blah blah blah. but in some circumstances its just not possible. hence why i am all for the remain calm, give them what you want, and escape with your life. and insurance... always insurance...

  21. "hallo! i need R300k" do it! do it!
  22. i can give feedback on the R-Sys wheelset. i owned a set for over 2 years. these role nicely. however the large round spokes definitely blow around a bit in windy conditions. this coupled with them being very light make for a twitchy ride. they are very easy to service, you can do bearing replacements yourself (this applies to all mavics i have owned). you dont really have to worry about the spokes being carbon. i never had an issue with mine. but R200 a spoke should you need to ever replace one! as you'd expect these wheels being 1355g odd (my set) they respond rather nicely up hills. if your buying new i think they come with wheelbags, tyres and tubes. nb the mavic tyres are very soft and stick the road really well. however, in the wet they are horrific! all in all the only downside to the wheels is the massive round spokes. they really are not aerodynamic. and in buffeting crosswinds to can feel it. otherwise you can expect solid the usual solid mavic build quality
  23. fully agree! shimano really didnt think this one through which is sad. the 10 x 40 is just to long a gear for even a fairly decent rider to be able to turn over properly.
  24. cool so okes seem think its fine. mods you can close this thread
  25. regardless of old frame. super record for R29k? i posted this to check it wasn't a stolen bike.
