  1. Sad thing about the "immediate eft" option is that if it is a new "beneficiary", some banks don't allow "immediate". In Absa's case - from personal experience - they allow you to chose "immediate", but once you click "Pay" ... a message appears stating that it will only process the following day since it's a first time transaction ...
  2. Yes, you are correct, compatibility is an issue on older frames that used 1" steerer tubes, but his Cotic should be able to fit a 1 1/8 straight steerer tube. There is quite a few manufacturer that still produce 1 1/8 straight steerer carbon forks like Ritchey, Soma, Musso etc. Thus it's not a "don't match carbon with steel" issue .... it's just a "can you find 28.6mm straight steerer in SA" (Edit: with the right "external" Cane Creek headset he should be able to fit a tapered too)
  3. "Now I've been told I can't use a carbon fork on a steel bike. Is this a thing?" I would also like to know. There is so many custom steel frame builders that use carbon forks, why would there be an issue with it? I am currently also in the process of building up a gravel steel bike with a carbon fork.
  4. If you are going to ream away so much, you might want someone to braze some head-tube reinforcement rings afterwards, the headtube walls might be compromised? Something like this? http://solidbikes.bigcartel.com/product/tapered-headtube-reinforcement-rings https://www.cycle-frames.com/Headtube-BOTTOM-Ring-for-Nova-Tapered-Headtube.html
  5. Seems Stats SA have taken a month's breather. Our maintenance increase is a function of the CPI, and mine is done using April's annual figures. I'll have to use March's CPI for now?
  6. Don't know if it's been asked before? I want to upgrade my road groupset to 11 speed from 10 speed. I want to keep my 10 speed crankset if possible. Does anyone know if a 11 speed chain works fine on a 10 speed chainring? thx
  7. This was my commuter for many years until I moved and my commute became much longer ... She only gets air-time on some weekends now
  8. Does anyone know where the Double Century 2019 "DC on Steel" team originate from? I was green with envy as we passed them on the DC last year. If they have an opening I would like to join them in the next DC
  9. Don't know if it's been posted on this tread before, but thought I'll post it as I've wondered often about strength of the different steels.. What is stronger – Air-hardened steel or CrMo steel? In terms of overall tensile strength, here is the order from strongest to weakest of common bike tubing steels: 1. Heat-treated air hardened steel (micro-alloy) (Reynolds 853, Columbus Foco, TrueTemper OXPlatinum)* 2. Heat-treated CrMo(Tange Prestige HT, TrueTemper Verus HT, Reynolds 725) and Niobium Micro-Alloy steel (Columbus Life) 3. Cold-drawn air hardened steel (Reynolds 631)* 4. Cold-drawn 4130 CrMo(Reynolds 525, TrueTemper Verus, Tange Prestige/Infinity) 5. High tensile steel(cheap dept. store bikes, cheaper bike shop bikes) * Air-hardened steels actually gain strength in the weld area after welding, but not along the whole tube. ref: https://www.somafab.com/faqs
  10. 1984 Kawasaki gpz 750 turbo ... got her 2nd hand, ..... bought her from a friend that made me promise I would sell it back to him once I could afford a car in my varsity days ... he got her back about 3 years later, and his brother wrote her off about a month after that. I loved that bike.
  11. Does anyone know the rules around swimming in the sea after 1 May when lockdown relaxes? If not will gyms be open for swimming, alternatively something like Silvermine dam, will the "parks" open? I need a good long openwater swim
  12. I would not have thought that a magnetic brake would create that much heat since the surfaces do not touch .... thus no small particles dislodging, but it does seem that quite a significant amount of heat is generated. ... would be interesting to know what kind of heat builds up in the rims when using the new 4iiii Fliiiight trainer in an hour? Wonder if it will not be more heat than a usual rim brake would cause on an extended downhill? Interesting stuff ....
  13. oh yes, .... much more power than most of us could ever wish to properly utilize. I have a 2000 Honda Blackbird - these old bikes are just soooo smooth - albeit a little heavy to maneuver out the garage
  14. whilst riding on the rollers … I switch on a Netflix movie with sub-titles (with speakers muted) …. the foreign movies I want to watch but don’t want to struggle through while laying on the couch, whilst playing my favourite spinning music via the headphones, whilst (intermittently) viewing Zwift on silent on the PC to record the session you can get in a good 90-minute session in this way without fighting boredom
  15. Does anyone know where I can buy (strong) magnets from in Cape town Want to do something similar to this .... to add more resistance while on the rollers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyaq5XnumZ0
  16. mmm ... my thinking was simply that spending would be on necessities post lock-down/covid-19, and that a large part of Nigeria's business was built on necessity I like the idea of online tutoring above ....
  17. Many years ago I attended a talk at UCT ... the professor said without the necessary control SA will eventually become a second Nigeria .... So my first thought now was to google the most profitable Nigerian businesses ... https://myafribusiness.com/35-most-profitable-businesses-in-nigeria-with-high-demand/
  18. Bought some canvas too and sewed my own seat and wheel covers a while back ... then proceeded onto some over-pants for the bike .... a bike cover, gators etc. I regularly sew when I have the opportunity .. .. gilets, curtains, bags .. . love it
  19. mmmm ... in the beginning I came off frequently... but at that stage i had a straight profile drum roller, got the Galaxia only much later. But yes, you don't move forward when you fall, the trick would be to get yourself un-clipped before falling onto the rollers ... it almost always hurts
  20. I use it between 2 and 4 hours daily, and charge it every 3rd day, or twice a week. If I'm doing a 4 or 5 hour training session I'll do a full recharge beforehand just for safety's sake. I bought an extra USB charging cup for the office for when the warning light blinks as I reach the office on the morning commute. You need to remember to switch it off though. It's so comfortable that often after I stop my watch I forget about switching it off if I don't remove it. When you remove it, it auto switches "off". I've not noticed any difference in usage time between charges yet.
  21. I've had my OH1 for nearly 2 years now, and use it daily. I forget I'm wearing it, the most comfortable HR monitor I've ever used. I have only once had it flip over and fall out in a pool - luckily. When doing sea-swims and Silvermine (dam) swims, it's under the wet-suit, and stays in place. Another awesome feature, especially with swimming is recording directly onto the OH1 and simultaneously onto the watch (polar v800), thus no erratic recordings when swimming.
  22. I use these on my Galaxia .... Racermate Inc 1976 Wind Trainer It's awesome, as I get a decent workout with some resistance while still enjoying the natural movement of the bike. I've had the rollers for a while so standing up and sprinting is part of the workout now too. Got the Racermate off ebay in May last year https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/03/going-old-school-using-bike-trainer.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDaFS_uL8UQ Only need a powertap or powermeter now .. I use a speed and cadence sensor now with Zwift
  23. Ritchey Swiss Cross Disc Frame: Ritchey Swiss Cross Disc Fork: Ritchey Cross WCS Carbon Groupset: Shimano Ultegra 2s - Hydraulic Disc Same as photo, but I'll swop the wheelset for road use instead: Wheelset: HED Jet 4 Disc
  24. .. looking at fixing her up with 10 spd Campagnolo components for weekend rides again .... the mech on the shifters had been suspect for a while. Also have a set of Scirocco's in waiting.
  25. I'm thinking of doing a 14 or 21 day water-fast while on lock-down. Did a 7-day water-fast last month, but with the commuting it was difficult to extend it. Now I'm forced to stay home, thus a perfect opportunity. This forum has a wealth of info ito water fasting: https://www.waterfastingforum.com/
