  1. Holy mother of panda! ... that is a bargain! Pricing on the Silverback 29ers is something else, really really good value!
  2. Was out there yesterday, came down through Parkhurst to Fratellis then doubled back through Delta and to Emmerantia with a few loops through forest section and back along the Spruit and home. See they've been cutting grass, hope they get to that section by the PnP soon as well. Orrid there, practically riding blind.
  3. Well, Rosebank SAPS left much to be desired, Parkview SAPS though, awesome service Francois, did you seriously see it? ... Kinda wounded that you didn't say hi and at least offer a beer, good grief man But now you okes have rumbled me .... too clever by far! The next person that calls aggressive though, gets a PK, to the back of the neck, from the front!
  4. Intern can also lay witness to some er .. issues with light tubes and thin walled racing ralphs
  5. Cheers guys, it's like I got two lucky rabbit foot, er feet.... As well mate, largely have no issues as there plenty side roads, this was on 7th Avenue/Laan. Which is fairly busy but also a steady traffic flow and wide roads.
  6. Go with a combo of of black and red!
  7. http://roadsafety.co.za/2009/11/09/how-do-i-report-a-hit-and-run-accident/ Useful info on here and provides a useful guide on how file and deal with a hit and run.
  8. This morning during my commute to the office a lady in a blue Toyota Yaris approached from behind and then right alongside me, turned into one of the side roads. She connected my front wheel and luckily with the slow speed of her turning I managed to break in time and stick my leg to keep from going over and possibly under her wheels. What really pissed me off though, is that she saw me, clear as day. And even checked her rear view mirror as she drove off. Consequently I've decided to take it further and report it to Rosebank SAPS as a hit and run, even though theres no damage or injury fortunately, other than my soiled underwear and vulcan deathgrip imprints on my handlebars. Take care out there guys, be safe on the roads and if in Parkhurst area, watch out for a dark blue, yaris driven by a young white female, long dark hair. Reg sxx/c 188 GP Additionally, I found this extremely useful link on reporting a hit and run. Straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak... http://roadsafety.co.za/2009/11/09/how-do-i-report-a-hit-and-run-accident/
  9. http://www.vangaalen.co.za/ van Gaalen is perfect for a hard day's training. There are a few lung busting climbs at van Gaalen, namely the concret road, Pofadder and Oom Piets. Depending on your route selection it's a mix of dirt road, rocky trails and flowing singletrack. Every ride there is a workout and equally as fun, arguably some of the best riding in the country.
  10. Not cool, heres to pulling through!
  11. Looking good, they've been cutting the grass and it's dried out in most parts. One or two of the bridges are in need of repair though.
  12. argh .... willl be hitting ye olde Spruit at around 17:00 from Fratellis
  13. Hark now hear, the squeal of Manbearpig..... It's all a conspiracy.
  14. Ya, bit of a shameless plug .... Absolutely, Momsen 29ers are leading the way, that carbon model is spectacular! Victor does know his stuff and it shows. Alongside this latest Silverback, their offerings are extremely difficult to beat.
  15. Not that many, the reality is that for the large event there is only two, well one now. That can handle the volume of images, post work and logistics there of, which is Action Photo. One other from the UK tried, but failed dismally. The price point of digital images in this context aren't too high at all, this is an arguable point I know, photographers and companies doing this kind of work are two different things though. I will say though that most photographers I've worked with who are the best, are also astute business people. I like the website you posted, but that's individual photographers shooting their own stuff and to a different brief entirely or their own style. A company like AP, is for all intents and purposes an agency employing photographers on the day and then very often PAY the event organiser per participant to do the bulk images for the event and at a specific requirement. Photobay portal is great, serves a good requirement for both photographers, potential clients and the buying public. It is a completely different kettle of fish to something like Action Photo who serve a different purpose.
  16. Nooit!
  17. Ya true, not that it's really important since the dude ended up with a pretty sweet ride I reckon the politics in any industry can be like a big knitting circle, prefer to focus away from *** like that myself and just enjoy myself.
  18. Generally correct except for this, unless it was tongue in cheek. ... Pros use what works for them, Nikon and Canon have the lion's share of the market. Although Canon has taken a hammering lately from the big N. Sony is making some heavy in roads as well, especially since taking over Minolta's photographic division. There are still a fair number of pros in some fields of photography using Olympus and even Pentax. For the kind of work company's like Action Photo do though, the 5D is overkill for resolution with a full frame sensor and doesn't have the fast frame rate needed for that kind of work. As Dangle will be the first to pipe up, I use Nikon ... But whatever tool does the job reliably is important
  19. Silverback are making some serious headway with value for money, wait til the review of their Segma Nine 29er in the next issue, just the RRP is enough to arouse eyebrows! As for Dragons, to be fair there is only the LBS's side of the story.
  20. You forgot that large events like Argus, Comrades etc.... Bulk photo companys pay per entrant to be there. Many smaller events are actually at a loss. Your equipment, hardware and staff costs are way off the mark. There is also equipment and hardware servicing, permanent staff, operational and logistical overheads that need to be costed.
  21. This is the thing, how do you define "priceless" ? ... For bulk shoots like this, even with a capture ratio of 8/10 it's near impossible to guarantee every single image, never mind abstract "priceless" images. Shot for these guys before, creativity goes out the window when you're expected focus on just capturing the image of each participant. With one Cycle Challenge I had over 5000 actuations on the camera, no time to look for angles etc ... Glad it's not my own equipment.
  22. With the cost of equipment, dirt cheap. As you say, it's the cheapest option, atually works out well since you have a soft copy that you can print yourself. Half the price compared to some companys doing the same, Cycle Challenge in 2009 was R90.
  23. Seen some guys run one organic pad and one sintered, or a dual compound. I found a generic set of what seem to be dual compound pads, from Gatorbrake. Only 50 rond and compatible with XTR/Saint/Deore/XT See theres a website on the packaging www.gatorbrake.com
