  1. spring the exra bit for the 80 since it still fits into your budget. The forks generally come setup as stiff, depending on your father's weight it might need fine tuning from the shop. As mentioned, sizing is important, as is setup which the shop should also be able to assist with. The Nomads represent darn good value for money, particularly in your budget.
  2. I find 2 or 3 beers after a race just as important.
  3. If Supersport appointed the 'outsourced' film work, then they are still responsible. Could be that they also compressed the signal for bandwidth, which also can lead to poor image quality. Hard to say though, I haven't been able to watch any of the footage unfortunately. Equipment was definitely there though, I saw a few of the guys. Most notably one vocal guy, who seemed to think that he was the only media bike to be anywhere the action in the peleton. Depending on how strongly you feel, it's best to report it to the BCCA (Broadcasting Complaints Authority)
  4. Having worked in a bike shop before, it's not the "greedy retailers" at all, for most the mark up far below the percentages of other retail industrys. Also if shop A is in 7de laan whilst shop B is in Eau de Kugel Cougar Centre, then there will be price differences, or higher markups on other items. Do some digging and find out what markup you pay on cell phone calls. The more prevalent things like CRC becomes, the more it compounds the issue for local distributors and retailers alike, who do all the branding, marketing, stock holding and training of staff and are expected to honour warrantys. The manufacturers need to move away from the outdated supply chain that our local distributors are forced to adhere to and make the distribution point directly to South Africa. It's an outdated concept of keeping our distribution level under that of Europe, then expecting our local agents and retailers to be competitive, yet they seem to be constrained by manufacturer's demands and flamed by consumers who feel they are being fleeced. This isn't just in the cycle industry either, it's a standard practice across many markets, South Africa falls under the distribution of Europe. Stuff docks here by shipment, carries on upto the EU, then gets redistributed and shipped back down to us.
  5. Ooohh, purdy! But, is it art?
  6. Big ups to you Gravity, folk like you really are the 'unsung heroes' .... Just wish you could have got a pic of the bike, fire engine red frame with a white fox forks sounds a beaut!
  7. Heh... remember that as well. Used to live for my collections of Bike, MBA, MBUK and MBI! Tinker Juarez, Myles Rockwell, Ned Overend, Johnny T, Paola Pezzo, 'Pistol' Pete ... etc etc etc
  8. I remember that, those yellow Judy SLs were the bizniz then too! Gotta photo somewhere from MBI/MBUK with Tomac on his Raleigh battling it out with Frischnecht on his Ritchey, one of the Euro Grunding WC mudfests.
  9. For prez . . . .
  10. Quite a bit I enjoyed, just the fact that we managed to host an international tour and see some good racing. Stage 2 was an unfortunate occurrence and needs to be properly looked at, but over all a great tour. Think some hard lessons need to be applied for next year, unfortunately many things happened at the last minute this year with the sponsor coming on board and Alec Lenferna, who is the guy to be organising an event like this. With the commitment for next year we shouldn't see some of the mishaps. Possibly worthwhile bringing in a tour operator to deal with the logistics of the teams, accommodation, travel etc Was great seeing some really different brands and serias pimp gear. Also speaking to some of the guys from overseas who were really loving it here and hoping to return. Even to Joburg
  11. With all due respect, they are as correct as you are by insisting cyclists obey the law by riding in single file. Name calling really isn't helping. Again, it's not a cyclist thing, it's a general attitude problem on the roads from everyone. Some of us can speak from both points of view. Guaranteed, if you spent as much time focussing on the laws motorists break in relation, it would be as bad if not worse. People need to look to their own habits and attitude before pointing fingers, saying that in general, not yourself perse. Although given the tone of attitude and aggression in your posts, I'd be very wary cycling in anything other than a large group with a driver like yourself nearby.
  12. Congrats, do you want a medal? ..... Yes, what they are doing is wrong. Go lay a complaint with metro and have it on record at least. It's club 100 by the way. Unless of course your intention was to vent and post these here to stir? We know now that cyclists behave badly, we also also know that motorists behave badly .... This us versus them debate is really pointless either way until theres some give and take from everyone that uses the roads.
  13. Seems to be a regular thing with Fox forks, have exactly the same on mine. I remember Brad at Mikes Bikes had a slight mod where they used the wiper from a Rock Shox, something along those lines.
  14. 5km!? ... You knobend, you should be walking! ....... My routine is pretty much the same as the others, sometimes I drive to where we have our offices and leave the car there overnight as very often I'm on the road so need the car. Often leave a set or few sets of clothes and a towel there, so if I want to do a longer ride I don't need to worry about a bag. For those Times I do need a backpack with clothes I use a North Face Limkiln which has a laptop pouch, although I've purchased an external drive, so just copy work over when needed.
  15. Mate of mine used them extensively for a review in the new issue of Tread, works just dandy! Can find dealers via the link I just posted.
  16. These also work damn well ... Momsen Bat wings http://momsenbikes.com/batwings.cfm
  17. And the birth of Cycle Nation
  18. Had the pleasure of fondling one of these bad machines the other day, a cool 80k! So much of light, although I'm not a huge fan of carbon rims. My god though, what a piece of engineering! Almost enough to make me switch to ferris wheels...
  19. Zis fing should maybe be ressurected ya?
  20. We're saying the same thing. I differ on the opinion of drivers though, they do deserve a large portion of blame on their behavior, which was beyond rude. Spitting at people? Driving over a sidewalk? Driving directly at a marshall? That transcends rude in any context of an event. Today will be interesting, with a 33kmh wind! Mother nature can be cruel!
  21. Wait, the review is in process and we photographed the bike this weekend.... she is a beaut! Cant comment on the ride though, as I've not had any bike time to myself to pilot the thing.
  22. Guys, try to understand. This was a pro tour, not a mass participation ride. You can't have full road closure for a peleton that passes by in ten minutes, rolling road closure is a normal practice. It worked on stage one. Once someone decides to force their way onto a route, no form of road restriction or road closure will work and no one should have to endanger themselves like that, wether it's ASO, UCI, CSA or whoever else pops up on your list. Yes there are some strongly valid criticism, but nothing that results in justifying the actions of some motorists yesterday. Right now, there is still a tour on, with some great racing.
  23. As well as the BMX and MTB world cups and championships. If anyone else had organised this, how else would we have dealt with a person who is prepared to driver over a kerb or attempt to knock over a marshal or JMPD officer? When it gets to that stage, there is no other option than to make the decisions that were made yesterday to suspend the stage.
  24. Back then I bet those cars were a bit more solid
