  1. Theres just no satisfying some folk .... Riding with Intern and his wife at Teak one time, we had a similar problem pass ing the one slower rider. After the obligatory "Track please, howsit bud" the oke accelerates as soon as he notices Intern's wife passing him, trying to keep her in the long grass. Too bad for him she's rather quick and semi-switched him rather nicely. Twas a beautiful thing to watch.
  2. Have to get back out there, my vG dosage is a month overdue at least and the withdrawals are becoming unbearable! People say I'm rather irritable and grumpy of late, clearly a vG ride is needed. In some ways I liked the old style of the riding there where you had to ride or portage through the rivers. No doubt though, the bridges to add to the flow and are a veritable godsend in winter. Event though Intern's mate enjoys a 3m dive into the river, acrobatically avoiding the fallen trees and branches too. As Obelix would say "These roadies are crazy I tell you!"
  3. Well I wouldn't say any bike has won a single race, at the end of the day it still has to be pedaled
  4. Interesting rhetoric, yet as you say "ignorance is bliss" tunariaan, if you are after a hardcore race machine those xc 29ers are def set as such. It is very rigid, one of the testers ended up buying herself one for racing, she's more than happy with it and finished in the top grouping of the Sani. Make sure of your sizing though, hey are on the big side, so if for example you normally ride a large, then a medium would most likely fit you best. Make sure about the spec and pricing though, this segment is pretty competitive so you could get a good deal out there.
  5. Engen Group is a good one, also known as "Surf and Turf" Speak to the guys at Dunkeld Cycles in your area as well, believe they have a few hard and fast rides too.
  6. Oh yes? Please provide more details, seem to have an inside line here that those of us who contribute to the mag are ignorant of. If a review were "paid for" in any way, it would then become advertorial and need to stated as such.
  7. Owl Cottage? .... Pray do tell more sah!
  8. Yeah, a mate moved to NZ this year. Reckons the 'serious' riders there are mostly on AM/Trail bikes with long travel that are predominately riding the trails. UP and down..... Either way, as long as people are out riding and having fun I reckon.
  9. Getting touchy rather quickly eh, take it on the chin as much as you dish it out bud. Pretty sure Eldron's post was as tongue in cheek as yours.
  10. I'm not sure what you're getting at? I'm just stating what I saw on their site last month, that's all.
  11. They did put out a tender for a Marketing/PR/Media proposal.
  12. Looking VERY schweet! ... Wishing you lots of happy dirty kilos on it!
  13. Having read the minutes that were posted as well, it seemed to me they met to discuss the industry and pricing was one of the points raised. Raising price points doesn't necessarily amount to price fixing. Only if it were that they were going to adjust prices to sit at a fixed point by decreasing or increasing prices in order to kill off competition, which wasn't mentioned. Sure some folk may have had ideas to that end, and it was even suggested at the end that they should seek a legal advice on what was being discussed.
  14. In what way? Their geometry is pretty spot on, depending on the kind of riding of course. Nothing wrong with the frames, Segma Nine rides like a monster. Interested to hear how winning equates to this, always thought winning was logically down to training and fitness, then the bike.
  15. Yeah, recently reviewed in a recent issue of Tread as well. Pretty much agreed with the above, great package for all round riding and those tyres are really under rated!
  16. Some single speed madness, cooked these folk I tell you! Can't wait for the next one Excellent event!
  17. Nothing wrong with moderation, it may not be perfect all of the time, but what is? If there are mod oversights it's how it gets dealt with, not a reason to ditch moderators. On that note though, I'd love to know what happened to the Albertina Sisulu thread?
  18. Also depends on the focus tracking used, dynamic would most likely have tracked focus on the front wheel more.
  19. For XCO formats, never look at rider numbers for profit or attracting sponsors. It's about the racing and technically demanding nature of courses, which makes it more appealing for spectators. Rather than working in more chicken runs, work on perhaps building a route thats more accessible for spectators, especially on the gnarlier sections. These sections can be sold up for branding/naming rights etc .... Give it a season or two, sure you guys will make it a success!
  20. It may be that they've sold their entire production, some shops sold out stock before the bikes even hit the floor. Most likely didn't expect that it would be such a successful seller either. Pretty sure they'll setup another run, it is a great buy after all.
  21. Love Jones opening for Fall Out Boy, few years back at the Dome. Shot at ISO400, 1/30 on an old Canon 300D. Flash lighting is generally banned at concerts, so we had to shoot with ambient light, something that's far easier with todays cameras though. IMHO I thought that Love Jones had a far better stage presence than FOB, whom I thought to be an anti-climax, mind you thousands of screaming (and I mean screaming) teeny bopper gals drowed those thoughts out!
  22. Yeah I saw some of those on you're CCHQ galler, some bloody nice stuff. Especially like the one of woman and her reflection in the cabinet. Did well with the ambient light, at events like this it's the way to go I reckon, possibly with some flash just for fill.
  23. Mebbe something similar along the lines of Groenkloof with signage. http://www.specialized-sa.co.za/images/resources/Groenkloof_sign.jpg The entry and no-entry signs are bit more basic with a single pole cut at an angle and the plate is fixed onto the sloped part of the pole. Found Groenies to have the most effective signage, it's visible, robust and not an eyesore. Being SANParks I'm sure Tokai could adopt the same?
  24. Hence le .... Story came up on one of my feeds, after the bit of confusion on the other thread I just had to post!
