  1. Just skimming through the document I’d be surprised if that were the case. Becoming clear that there are some serious issues that anti doping need to address. Part of the reason contamination claims are so often used as a defence (rightly or wrongly) is because the more industrial processing we use in foods and supplements. If WADA don’t get to grips with this and keep falling back on strict liability and semantics. They’re going to cause damage to themselves in the long run.
  2. Plenty good riding to be had even if there aren’t formal trails. Otherwise All Out isn’t that far away sand Winterton is nearby. Worth taking the bike just to do some old school backcountry exploring.
  3. Consistently plugging away, same/similar challenges as any rider not based on the European continent. Although same riders seem to cruise. But without speaking on Candice Kill’s behalf she’s also been as focused on having the right people around her as a support structure. And there’s no doubt her husband is a big part of this, often seen him on a lot of behind the scenes stuff getting stuck in and helping out, not just with Candice but any Saffa/African riders present. There’s a decent core of African staffers/industry professionals working on the circuit, often helping each other out. People underestimate the impact of this is, particularly if just starting out and trying to build a network. Saw somewhere where someone thanked one of the Specialized Toyota mechanics, Nick. Helped them with a problem. Anyway, Lill is in good company, her current ranking speaks for itself.
  4. Also cool to see Alex Miller 🇳🇦 second on the podium for the XCM World Cup. Epic regulars Fabian Rabesteiner 1st and Samuele Porro 3rd (Willier/Vittoria) 🇮🇹
  5. You can stream it offf StayLive, R115 pm which can be cancelled at anytime. U23 events can be streamed on YouTube
  6. No reason both can't be catered to with a variation of the route. Honestly believe a trick has been missed here where MM could be placed as the 'Hell of the North' in correlation to the Attakwas's 'Hell of the South' ... the smaller/ easier routes could be a good promo base around these.
  7. Total Sports also surprisingly good with their specials, and the TS brand gear is darn good quality too, especially for the price. Found the Puma Scend Pro marked down to 900 zar, a steal. Also found the Puma Fast-Trac on discount directly from their site, got these for trail and they've been great.
  8. Yes, I did the 60km last year. Sharp and fast! Great morning out.
  9. Tend to agree. That said I think it’s indicative of much of the world at large. People are frustrated and much of that is because they feel powerless. Personally, my feeling is if you get caught by the public, then suffer the consequences of what happens. Nothing to do with night of thy r long knives or AK under the pillow. By the same token I’m not going to share or watch a video with some morbid glee and then make excuses for it. But apparently that stance is “woke” or being a “snowflake” if you’re not part of the mob.
  10. Sorry to hear man. Have a few friends taking part. One will be getting his green number and another who also would’ve done so, is withdrawing due to a recurring foot issue. Here’s to enjoying a deserved feet up 🍻
  11. At what costs? Take a look at the prior post about Lizzy Banks. I think anti doping has a near insurmountable challenge ahead of them, and an equally often thankless task. But strict accountability and consistency has to be a two way street. The recent crapshoot between WADA and China officials is a case in point. The Stepanovs who were whistle blowers on the RUSADA scandal around 2017. Still ‘living’ under asylum in the US. So when a case like Vlad’s appears, it raises more questions than answers. And this is becoming too common a theme lately. Another good example, Fluckinger.
  12. Seems a lot of the brands are becoming more competitive with their respective products. Some bloody good pricing going around as well. Adidas have often been my goto, a pair of their Terrex shoes/boots are my default work shoes. In need of a good resole now though. For road I actually won a pair of Salomon Sonics when they launched. They’ve served well for just over a thousand km of plodding, including some light trail. Recently replaced them with a pair of Puma and have been so impressed I got a trail pair as well.
  13. Would say you’re on the limit of a large and just on the entry point of an XL. Ideally, get a bike fit done to measure you up so that your lbs can help you make a decision with the available geometry information on the frames.
  14. Pro cyclist Lizzy Banks' life "torn apart for nothing" after being found of "no fault or negligence" for positive doping test, but only after nine months "living my worst nightmare" and €40,000 spent… https://road.cc/content/news/cycling-live-blog-21-may-2024-308471?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1GEhUa8HRx7g6gfLwlhRr_ob51z4yr-xX6B-3m-Jvc4zLZFptVakdRUgQ_aem_AUqksH7szopVnW6PcOEWhxrblfC0FNHmNJ1xZNBk5lLVUhF0CIVUYibsRdnfuaEgyJ5iCO6ONZL4pnvp3OnUU5JJ#live-blog-item-57919
  15. Some throwback shots…
  16. It’s that day! Best of luck, be safe and enjoy!
  17. We chatted with a few from Colombia at our accommodation in Somerset West, great interaction. Also a regular number of Czech folk each year, surprisingly quite quick on our Saffa sense of humour.
  18. I think any business has a right to protect its brand, there’s a lot of risk attached. Naturally there should be common sense applied, the Epic bike shop incident comes to mind from years back. But Lance also does well with Cape Epic business, coaching etc … Cape Epic have their own internal media production, which has its own style and production guide. Nothing unusual and common among events the world over. There’s also plenty independent/editorial media coverage of Cape Epic, in my experience never has anyone been told how to cover the event or participants. Nor do they get to ‘approve edits’ be it copy, images or photo.
  19. Yes but not nearly a year ahead, the launch here was part of the international launch. Titan is in about 8 markets around the world.
  20. Literally, no one raised the issue of the war there currently. What's ludicrous is to read any kind of PC forcing into what was a bicycle discussion relevant question. The bike was released locally, someone claims they saw it in another market, which happened to Russia, prior to the local launch. That is the question. Take a breath. Keeping things on topic, the most likely answer is that Ruben could have seen an online 'ad' using pics, which in all likelihood was a scam/phishing site of sorts.
  21. Totalsports Chris? They’re having some good specials on at the moment.
  22. Yes sorry my mistake 🙈 … going through all the calendar events. Pretty amazed at the deep dives he does with the data, but especially with Comrades. To the extent that it seems they put proper people in place. Also all the nonsense about wearing patches on kit. Thought CSA could bureaucratic, ASA appears to be on another level! 😂
  23. Don’t think you can lable it as excuses when organisers themselves are dishonest on how it was handled. Including those on the ground. Plenty info out there about how they mismanaged cutoff points and we’re generally aggressive. Some people got on the bus and then were told “we made a mistake, carry on if you want” …. Only to be caught up at the next point.
