  1. Sounds like a personal thing, fair enough. But for me he imparts a good deal of knowledge and communicates it well for the layperson. Coming from an actual sports scientist, that seems to be an invaluable contribution.
  2. Not currently no, have a sub in with Escape and some others/apps. When those expire shortly I’ll take a closer look at local. Still have to renew CSA membership too 😑

  6. Plenty giraffe and buffalo/antelope there too. Also used to be a family of rhino there, on the red route side, apparently they were poached. Some years back prior to the current owners, when it was Heia Safari. There was a resident hippo that was shot by the then owners/event organisers ahead of a triathlon. Don’t know what it is with that place, always feels like there’s been sketchy **** since the beginning of time there. Regardless, a pleasure riding and exploring there. Plus the chipotle burgers are amazing, post ride beer and burger goes down like mother on fathers day (or vice versa)! Just don’t drink the water.
  7. Is this Strand St by Bo Kaap?
  8. Bit of a silly parallel to draw with the event and organisation, but you do you. It’s an encouraging event along with the Songo programme that does a damn site more good than anything else.
  9. Give those riders a bell 😁 ….. https://quickdeal.today/products/super-bike-horn?fbclid=IwAR3b1gczmhE8VnqhXG9-2aBWgPEcg0QZLfqIV9LYGFPuxzspMiXHS2g6nZU_aem_ATl5kxXC-CXlFgIktd0jRjL6psnyoQDEPO85u1_fwB36h4tPnqwXsJvXK16LlO7ilvrHQGNXL0-9mSn2Nb0YSByr
  10. Geez, tons. It’s an unbelievably crowded space. Just off the top of my head. Enjoy Lassen Sports OTR Vye RH77 Panda Sport Then there are euro brands that provide custom kit locally. Kalas GSG Bioracer Castelli Ftech Tactic
  11. In reality it’s the reverse, most people start out or get back into cycling and bring their bad driving behaviour with them. All anyone needs to do is observe driver behaviour at any intersection or school run. If anything, cycling (even running) for the most part improves people’s driving habits. Sometimes nothing can account for a lack of upbringing unfortunately.
  12. Well said, and while this can’t be condoned it also can’t be tied to road fatalities as some kind of justification/rationale. With all due respect to Chris, that’s a pretty stupid correlation to make.
  13. Some quick finish line snaps - Elite Ladies sprint between Hayleen Preen (Freewheel Cycology) and Carla Oberholzer (Cycle Nation/Sandton City) U23 Men sprint Jaedon Terlouw (Pyga Eurosteel) and Travis Stedman (Q36.5). Alan Hatherly in background. Elite Men - Ryan Gibbons (Trek Lidl) Tristan Nortje (Honeycomb) Morne van Niekerk (St Michel/Mavic/Auber93)
  14. It’s embarrassing yes, but it’s just a banner, sometimes people will latch onto something like a rabid dog and run with it. Overall the event is actually running well on the ground, credit where it’s due.
  15. Bannergate sorted …
  16. Sending regards, would have been a good presence at champs, more importantly wishing a strong healthy recovery!
  17. Sorry to hear, that’s pretty swak. Hope they throw the book at that pos!
  18. It’s not that uncommon for federations to have foreign nationals competing in their National Title event, they don’t get awarded the national jersey however, if they get a result. Personally don’t see the issue, bit of international presence adds to the racing surely? Particularly if they’re a regular feature locally throughout the season.
  19. Yip, there’s good few things to consider, hence suggesting a seperate thread. Also a lot of semantics, we could be here forever discussing, unfortunately don’t have the luxury of spending a good portion of the day on forums.
  20. Ja, it’s a bit sad that practically nobody is aware of the event as such, unless you’re a core road rider. Which is a pity because there’s a lot of good work and effort into the organisation, plus the potential of the venue. Aside from the lack of SA Cycling media, there’s no basic programme (you need to download a 25page handbook) and telegram are immediately off putting to outside interest.
  21. Why? Why the top XCO? Other than good PR. Marathon MTB, especially in the stage format is still a relatively new discipline that is growing. XCO is an exceptional baseline, but not all riders who specialise in the format enjoy/excel at Stage XCM. We also forget the effects of a post covid economy, which compounds many of the challenges and can cause a setback back by two years, within a broader timeline. Not sure I agree with the credibility assessment, last year we saw performances by two local teams that put them out there on an international platform. Kim Le Court is now on a WT team with AG Ins Soudal and took a commendable top 10 at TDU. Not saying that’s due to the ACE jersey, but it does play a role. As much as there’s an argument for change, we also should acknowledge the outcomes currently and those who do show up. Worth its own thread tbh as we‘re digressing here.
  22. The women’s field is all too often a throw of dice, although despite the lack of depth last year’s racing provided really good entertainment. I enjoyed following it as well as the men’s explosive stages. To be fair it takes more than throwing money at it, hopefully there’s more stability in the near future. Attakwas showed an encouraging level of racing.
  23. Last I spoke to the guys from Cytek (Merida agents/Titan) they said they have the agency for Microshift.
  24. Total of seven people attended, while it might seem to be a lekker joke, there are real world consequences towards people’s livelihoods.
