  1. The Argus is easier, in my opinion. The only thing I ever battled with, was the South Easter (had it on a few occasions and it was eina). The 94.7 is way more hilly.
  2. My first line from my previous post. An Ultegra will be a lot lighter than a 105 crank. You might be much better off upgrading it in one shot compared to bits and pieces. Check your prices.
  3. The quotes in question, from me, was for MTB. The problems experienced at races with organizers telling people to wear sleeved shirts, was at MTB races. I checked the road race rules and could not find anything about it, but you could arguably put it down to what the shirt should look like with the sponsors decals. No one should be seen cycling with a sleeveless shirt on a roadbike anyhow (not on a mtb either )
  4. $$$$$ vs weight. That's your guide. Entry level on a road bike should be Tiagra, preferably 105, Ultegra if you can afford it or Dura Ace if you can because you want to and don't mind paying for it. Well that's for someone that believes Shimano should be on a road bike. I the shiny carbon fiber on my Campy groupset so my opinion is irrelevant At the end of the day it's probably exactly the same as to why you have SLX/XT instead of plain Deore or cheaper. Better quality, less weight.
  5. If you check the photo he is wearing a chip?
  6. Ah. You should have asked her to quote the rulebook, had she given you the fine (let's not be an ass, but there's nothing wrong with knowing the rules). Sleeves will only save you if your shirt wouldn't have torn.... so that's a maybe, but it won't save you from "danger". Otherwise you should wear knee-pads too. But at the end of the day, there is no such rule in their Rules and regulations, so they cannot enforce it until they publish it as such. A GoPro on your helmet I can understand, as long as they don't include "bike-mounted GoPro's" in the banlist. Music players yeah. I used to race with one some years ago, but only ever in one ear (which is like half-deaf anyhows), Never had a problem, but I can understand that some people can take it to stupid-level.
  7. That would be the only reason I'd consider insurance.... my last crash cost me around R4k in damage. To replace my road bike in its completeness though, would be eina.
  8. By the CSA or by the race organizers? From CSA's MTB race rules: This is all it says regarding clothing.
  9. No insurance for my bikes, last I got a quote i realized I could buy a new car every so-often with the monthly payments.
  10. Music players are banned as per CSA rules. Clothing... it's only required that you wear a "shirt". The CSA rules do not specify, that it may not be sleeveless. Helmet cams.... haven't seen anything on that topic.
  11. +1. If you can do a 100km ride without dying you're fine. At the start there's a heck of a lot of hype and excitement. At around 40-50km you turn around and go back towards Cape Town and that's when the paw paw starts to hit the fan, wind, drags, etc. Personally I found Chappies a breeze, I don't think I even got into my small chainring. Other people suffer on it, it depends on how you find climbing. Suikerbossie is a killer for most legs, especially if you've gotten tired up to now, but keep the pace on it, as the next 5km is mostly downhill towards the finish.
  12. Best advice for chafing, from my experience - let it heal first. Otherwise it won't heal properly and you're going to sit with a constant chafing issue. You don't need to sit out a week, just monitor it and see when it looks decent.
  13. Go to Hot Spot Cycles, they're on the corner of Atterbury and Windsor.
  14. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/123289-947-mtb-times/ The guys are talking about it there.
  15. From my friend google (for me and others who don't know these guys) https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/112809-anti-doping-rule-violation/ https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/55622-tour-de-vino-vets-race/ http://www.cyclingarchives.com/coureurfiche.php?coureurid=61281 Wayne Colling: bit harder, no nice hits to work with, mostly PR/information http://www.sani2c.co.za/Blogs/Blog.aspx?blogid=309&bloggerid=19859
  16. The winning time was 2:04 Will go do it myself next year.
  17. My Bianchi 29er is a medium and I have no issues at all with reach. I'm 176 or 177-abouts. Thing is, a lot of people that are in the 160-170cm ranges have no issues fitting on a 29er, so I think it comes down to the individual's arm reach and torso length at the end of the day.

    2012 94.7

that year...?? Yes, sounds right. It was so wet my brakes decided not to work.... and my average was 40 at that stadium, so I just sat up, not wanting to risk a wipeout. 30 minutes later the sun came out and I died from the heat
  19. Eina. Had some joyriders shooting roadsigns in Pta with paintball guns once, the Metro took it as "shots fired at roadsigns" and arrested the crap out of the guys.
  20. Haven't been there myself but I understand Rietvleidam also has some nice trails (not too difficult).
  21. Ag it was a joke dude, hence the <== after it. Make sure you read my second post
  22. You can write it up as assault with intent to cause grievious bodily harm, or possibly even a mva with fleeing the scene of a mva.
  23. Next time someone tries that, grab the guy's arm and yank... he will let go very quickly Glad you're ok though. Not a very nice experience when a bunch of a-holes try to make your ride an unpleasant experience.
  24. You try riding on a kiddies tricycle? You need something that you can fit on. Do yourself a favour, go to your lbs and try out a medium and a large. One will fit you better than the other.
