  1. Have to agree. Spoke to the guy manning the main computer at the finishline. The interaction was not great. Same with the website.
  2. Singletrack is good yes. Barend is always willing to help and his stock is not bad at all. I have built up a couple of wheels at Hotspot Cycles. Mauritz will be the guy to talk to.
  3. Easy Pretoria ride with the club
  4. My stupid advice.........ride your bike. Have fun while you can. You don't know what happens on Sunday. Maybe the race gets cancelled and then you did not enjoy your bike rides when you could have.
  5. Hopefully the exhibitors will start growing brains and avoid the marketing BS and not setup at the "expo"
  6. Not the same timing company, no
  7. Nope. Going forward (hopefully) you won't have to collect **** from **** venues hundreds of miles away. You just use your permanent number and off you go. Saving hundreds of rands not going to do "number collections" will be the winning formula.
  8. "Optimal level" = ride away from everyone. Normal assist that will help the battery last long will still outweigh the weight disadvantage.
  9. https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/vector3/EN-US/GUID-75D57E87-C695-431E-B0C2-094BA8E71421.html I have previously ordered from RS components. No issues.
  10. To be fair, that was a year ago? No races since that the organisers have taken into account?
  11. Pretoria club ride
  12. A for Asshole. Red number
  13. Orange seal is expensive. I currently run on Stans. I hear good things about Enduro Seal but could not get hold off at my LBS. Had the GP5000 but they have become insane expensive. So I switched to Pirelli. Works good enough at this stage at two thirds of the price of the conti. (And fits easier on the rim.)
  14. Had to do a repair on the tubeless tyre the other day............cleaned out the tyre before I put the new stans in again...........the amount of small little thorns that I took out was amazing.....to think in the old days every one of them would have been a puncture stop. That alone, to me, is worth it. Wheels: Think you have to go specific tubeless wheels. The danger being that some air might leak into the box section of the deepsection part of the wheel and pop the carbon (I've seen pics). Rolling resistance: Cant say that I feel faster on the tubeless...........been on it for about 2 years now Comfort: ooooh the comfort...........now THAT you will feel for sure. I come from racing tubbies at 11 bar. Went to clinchers racing at around 6-7 bar. Now down to 4.5 bar tubeless. Still doing good times all around but with less sore ass and road vibration and and and.
  15. Looking forward to come ride the fair Cape's rough trails.
  16. I suppose all said and done.......... and putting aside the devil's advocate theme....... Its a fairly free country. Enter if you want. Most average people living in SA will not be able to and I think that is why one or two people are a bit pissy about the entry fee. Almost ALL our classic one day events in Gauteng (Tshwane Classic has 80% road closure) cost HALF the price of the August. The guys doing it for love and safety and the awesomeness that is on the day will enjoy it 100%. It is a truly amazing experience. Expensive......sure. Worth it? I would say yes. Would I do it for the 11th time forking out R15k for the weekend? I cannot.
  17. That's why I said MOST of the route. "still enjoy hanging out in crowds and being part of an event" My club ride. 3 times per week.
  18. None of my 150 club mates own a R300k bike. secondly. I can ride most of the days most of the route for FREE. The whole "timed event" thing is dwindling to say the least with mostly egotistic Vets and wannabe pros still "racing". The rest of the people just want to have a good time on the bike. Which they can do any day of the week. Free. These days R750 can goes a long way to pay for fuel (or breakfast) to go ride a route that you have not done before instead of a day out in the Cape the has a 80% chance of getting cancelled and that you have done previously.
  19. Wines to Whales weekend. 😭
  20. I am also questioning the caliper alignment/setup. Twice I have now found in my circle of friends (and it happened to me) that the mechanic has set up the caliper for a 160mm rotor and the bike had a 140mm rotor on.
  21. Use value......not much.....you are going to mission around for chains, stem, wheels, tyres, should anything break or wear. So value would be mostly because of sentiment. Someone that will want it or desire it or hang it on a wall or such.
