Save money on the balance bike. Spend more when they need brakes and pedals.

I got one from GeeWiz for R500. My son rides it every day and it's held up great. Pull off all the Chinese stickers and put your own.

My son gets to add a sticker to it every time he accomplishes something new, and loves it.

Thats the nice thing about this Strider. It comes with a pedal kit. Granted they will probably  not be pedaling on it for long but it does extend the life a little.

Moving back to Schwalbe after a stint with OEM Maxxis. The Magic Mary in 2.6 is probably way-overkill for both what I ride and how I ride it, but figured I would give the newish trail carcass build a try.

Loctitie is for my son's bike - his jumps give it such a thrashing the bolts work loose pretty quick.Tyres.jpg.3becb9c52e88b929b50df1a523382be6.jpg

I have the same combo and love them. Prefer them to the DHF and Aggressor I had.

  3. Haha! Awesome guys!! I’ve been trying to cone up with a GG inspired name for a balance bike but I can’t swing any bands name into a name for a balance bike.
I found this site and while they have cool stuff I can’t get it here.
    https://wildchildbikes.com

Our two year old is also a little giant and grows so quickly I don’t think he will be on the 14” for long. The cool thing about this Strider is you get a crank set with it so as soon as they balance lekker he can peddle it.

I had a lag at him the other day. Well it was a proud moment rather. ALL he wants to watch id “fietsie” videos when the tv is on so he sees a lot of the freeride stuff I enjoy watching.
At playgroup he took their bike and carried it onto the little plastic castle they have, the one end has a slide, before I could help he was already riding down it. It did not go smooth but he got down.

I can’t wait to give him his bike, luckily his birthday is next Wed so not long to wait.

  4. Howzit guys.
I’m probably going overboard but I just got my son a Strider 14X.
Already looking too upgrade bits and bobs but struggling to find 14” tires online (I’m in Brunei). I’ll be in SA over December and thought maybe I could get some better than the stock tires there and then convert it to tubeless when we are back here.
or is tubeless a poef idea? I’m just not lus to sukkel with tubes.

Have any of you pimped their kids bikes? I was thinking to get some matching bars and grips. Maybe bigger pedals with better grip, he will have shin pads so his legs won’t look like mine.

  5. I used send my bag when I was sending my bike all over the show. They were the cheapest but that was pre covid.
I have used the Billion company a few times now and once my bike was in the box and they charged us around 8k from jhb to Brunei.

Big bikes on small trails always feel a bit junk until you start going faster.... I'd be tempted to ramp up your rebound and maybe add a spacer or two in the air can so you still get your sag, but have slightly more ramp into your travel.

But that sounds mostly like big bike syndrome. They only really feel alive when going fast and going over stuff

I had a similar feeling with my bike. Did as you are describing wrt rebound on my shock (dpx2) and added a volume spacer to my Lyrik (RC2)

    Bike feels really good now.

best balance bike out there and rear suspension too. German. Awesome. My kid loves his…and this is less than 50% what they cost in eu/ what i paid for mine. Just buy the thing….you’ll pay close to more renting something for a month imo. (R50 realistically per day x30 = R1500 ish). Or even something cheaper from classifieds. This specific one comes in a box the size of a carry on suitcase so it wont take up a lot of space.  Comes with Schwalbe tires too.

Man that is a cool little bike!! While I’m all for the N+1 rule we won’t have space to fly the bike back.

  8. Hi everyone.

We will be home for the Dec holidays and I’m looking to rent a balance bike for my son for the duration of our stay (the whole December).
I don’t want to buy one because I have nothing to do with it once we leave.

Has anyone got one or know of some place where I could rent one? Ps. He is on a size 14 or 14” balance bike.

    Thanks for your time.

Leme throw a big spanner here

I rode A bike with proper proper setup 11spd gears today ( not mentioning brand cause i think both were excellent) and it was fu****ng sublime.

Screw which ever brand , just 11spd its so nice ... it was used and shifted better than 12spd new outa the box ( okay maybe 3% better ) but jeeeeeez it just works

Iooking for 11spd shimano stuff now for my bike until my 12spd gx is worn out , its not bad at all but its not crisp or quick or smooth.

11spd was wayyyyy tooo underrated imo

I have a 11 spd NX setup on my bike. I don't mind it but I wish I could get away with converting my bike to a SS. The shifting works but it is not lekker. I had 11spd XT at a stage and it also did not feel good, was also often jumping and skipping. That's why I went over to SS, was nice and simple. I'm not having a dig at 11 spd, just gears in general.
I'm now looking at the GX AXS just because the gears and the amount of cables are irritating me. Seems like the gears might still be an issue but then at least the bike will look a bit more tidy.

I have only only used the Hans Dampfs before, great feeling tyres, but they just never lasted and tended to puncture easier than my Maxxisssss counterparts.

Please check in with a long term review once you have beaten those tyres up a bit!

Will do. I have done 215km on the Hans and the MM but the trails here are hard packed and sandy with the odd root. Not much that can puncture or damage the tire. I have had no issues thus far. They roll much better than my dhr and dhf combo and the grip feels a lot better. I had my MAXXIS on for about 1500km according to Probike garage so I’ll see how these get on.

Cotic is a possibility. But I am very happy with the GG. I use the Ht during the week from the house to urban bash and sometimes up on the greenbelt. It is also used often at hoogies, incl the skills park and gspot, eden, mont maree. And on the odd occasion at Tokai. Hence not in a rush

I know it is not steel but I honestly don't think there is a better bike. I love mine so much it should be frowned upon.

Dis hoe ek voel oor my Magic Mary. Ek het wel nog nie die Assegai probeer nie maar toe ek bande nodig gehad het kon ek nie een opspoor nie. Nou weet ek nie of ek sommer weer gou MAXXIS sal gebruik nie...
