  1. My deep sections were a giant nuisance riding in crosswinds. but I am close to the apparent 49kg threshold as tankman described
  2. When that happens to Chuck Norris, he does a dull revolution.
  3. Hence all cannondale team riders' bikes come equipped with a powermeter and a piece of lead dropped into the seat tube.
  4. Well PPA says 108, 80 and 50, Pro classic newsletter said 105, 72 and 50...
  5. anyone have any clarification regarding distances?
  6. Except in the wind, be careful not to get any deep section wheels, for someone so light they'll be much more of a nuisance than any good if a crosswind happens to come about.
  7. It's a Scott from what I can tell, he picked it up 2nd hand from Avrons, apparently the guy who used to have it built it up and died in a car crash before he could ride it.
  8. But it's an mtb...
  9. Nah, a carbon road bike would be more beneficial, maybe with some clip on bars. The OP said she wanted to do road races as well and a TT bike would limit her in that respect while a road bike can be used for both.
  10. oh yes! something else! You have a helmet from mtb, so just ask Tankman if it is acceptable on the road But then you probably also want to get some road shoes and cleats, they offer a much bigger platform than the mtb pedals which = a better power transfer and over 180km it will take a fair amount of time off. Aero helmets are also cool, if you're doing ironman's.
  11. every groupset will take getting used to if you just start road biking, it's a completely different system to mtb. As for shimano is the worst? this just showcases your lack of knowledge, shimano is the heaviest of the 3, but the most reliable and they are pushing the boundaries with DI2, campy came after them. If you're just starting out shimano is the easiest as it comes on most lower specce'd bikes, there are always spares around and it is cheapish for the lower echelon of their components. So my advice is to buy a very entry level road bike, with whatever comes on it, it doesn't really matter, ride that bike for a bit, (it will probably cost R4500) and then if you enjoy it, which you will, you can upgrade to a nice carbon framed bike with light wheels and some sram force. But PM Tankman and he will assist further. And don't listen to Witkop.

    Road Shoes

Well most shops will have most shoes, but it really depends on what shoes you want.
  16. They should have a 16-20 category I think, I mean 16 vs 25?
  17. Sorry guys, have to save myself for the race on sunday, don't want to be spat out the back 5km's in. My dad might join though.
  18. I do all my training on water with the occasional bar and races on water with gels and bars. But in my opinion Cytomax is the way to go for a mix.
  19. But the lighter the bikes they higher-end they are, the stiffer they are which results in a better power output/power loss ratio = faster climbing, so like uhh?
  20. I know on our car it does affect it quite a lot with 3 bikes. Without bikes it still does affect the fuel consumption but not nearly as much. Not sure exactly though.
  21. On a game drive at cape schools week. Pitty about my crapberry camera. This one was behind the vehicle, roaring, was pretty scary stuff.
  22. Well not sure how good the roof one will be for your back... But, It is easy to put bikes on top, as long as they're in the lightish variety, not sure how easy it would be putting a dh bike on for example. Does affect fuel consumption a bit and you notice it when it's their but for convenience sake it's good, just pop bikes on and go. Think that they remove easily but not to sure. And, do you have a garage? Because a friend of mine forgot that he had a bike on the roof and squared his front wheel . Good bike rack though
  23. And I wouldn't mind racing you (Witkop) on my 2x10.

    Argus 2012

There are also some in the classifieds.
  25. I think you meant to say almost all pro riders, the rest use 1x10. Because 2x10 is faster.
