  1. been there and have the t shirt - or in this case the surgery scar!

Similar to Wannabee got to a point where any movement was impossible - had discectomy - L5 S1

Years later I still have stiff back at times but I have found that since I have become ALOT more disciplined about core exercises and stretching, as well as managing my weight it has gotten alot better. Some days no discomfort at.

Start with basic stuff like already mentioned - cat and cow - very good to loosen up the area.

Try not to sit for too long - sitting is the worst for your back!

  2. The Shimano R8000 comes to mind, they are set to handle up to 28mm RIM width, my understanding is that the ID of your rim also has a bearing on the final effective width of the final inflated width of the tyre though as is the height of the brake caliper on the frame.
Some discussion links but I would be keen to hear some local user experience

Yes! From the variety of tracking numbers I received (seriously, there were at least three) I managed to figure out it was delivered to the Post Office in the CT CBD (I guessed that was the case as I had not received the typical courier request for customs payment). I waited a couple of days (phoning there goes unanswered) and then showed up with all my tracking numbers. They were very helpful and I managed to get my package and pay the customs.

Merlin did indicate that this was them trying a new service provider and that they will default to express options from now on. I'll try them again for things I can't get locally.

Damn, I just bought some stuff and it’s being sent by some parcel company which i assumed was a courier, hopefully doesn’t take too long!

    Thanks

I used CRC/Wiggle quite a few times for things I could not get locally so I was pretty sad when they stopped taking our orders as it was always a smooth and fast delivery process, often under a week. Tried Merlin this time and 3 weeks later I think my package might be at a post office somewhere, so who knows if it still exists.

    Hi.
Did you get your item btw, they used to use DHL in the past?

I would expect the whole of Sea Point and Green Point to become more of a security problem in the next few weeks and months. When the City evicted the illegal street people in green Point, a large percentage of them did not go to the shelters or the offered relocation site. They simply dispersed before the Sherrif moved in and they moved into the rest of the neighbourhood. Now there will be many single and small group encampments all over, just not one large tent and plastic town. The majority of them are just down and out people and mostly harmless, but the real criminals, muggers, robbers hide among them. So, beware. It will remain a problem until the neighbourhood watch harass them enough to move to other areas.........yes, the problem will not go away because there is currently no way to solve it, just to displace it somewhere else. Sad, but true.

Case in point I see a post re 2 bikes stolen in Sea Point from a garage..

If I had to choose.  Zipps over and over again.
The Darkhorse wheels my buddy had was 'n bitch to replace a tube next to the road.  Seemed the wheels were bigger that the tyre.  Might be worth it to check out first if your potential set will do the same.

yeah, I also heard about some issues of that nature, guess it's down to a really great brand and tried an trusted but older wheel with what I have read handles the wind quite nicely for a 58mm rim vs something new..

Looks like Firecrest logo.  Looks like clinchers judging by the valve and goodyear Eagle F1 on them.

I had a set of these.  Good wheels.  Did not give me any issues.  You might have to replace some bearings depending on how old they are.

If I had a choice, I would go for the later version which had the little grooves in the braking surface.  It just brakes so much better in general and especially in the wet.
But I have no clue how the pricing would differ between the two.

Thanks, they are about 8 years old, if not these, I am potentially looking at a set of Darkhorse 50's.

Sorry to derail the current hot topic, but I must just feel a bit sorry for myself.

I WILL NOT BE DOING MY 20TH CONSECUTIVE ARGUS/CTCT THIS YEAR. (would have been my 21st was it not for the two cancelled years) My goal was to do 21 in a row, and then close the Argus/CTCT chapter.

I had an emergency Laminectomy last week Tuesday after a bulging lumbar disc almost completely squashed my Sciatic nerve. (whilst doing my morning ablutions and getting comfy on the throne before my ride😪...)

So I'm basically bedridden for three weeks, then rehab and only after about three months can I slowly get going on the trainer again.

But I must admit, the discomfort from the operation wound is a LOT better than that searing pain running from my glute all the way down to my calf. It was hell, I did not know how to sit, stand or lay down without the most excruciating pain.

But fear not, I'll be back for no. 20 next year......

Damn, had similar procedure a few years ago, nerve was also completely impacted, the pain is the worst ever!  and surgery was also the only option, all the best with your recovery

    Parking problematic in Durbanville.

If you don't mind parking a bit further away then the parking garage in Village Square or even the DVille centre should be safe options.

    distance from the start?

  10. Alan Winde always carries on about making Cape Town a "cycling city" - be it for commuting or cycling along our coastline etc. - what are they doing about the escalation of these incidents?

We approach the cycle tour with heightened awareness of the sport - would love to have him and perhaps Bellairs come out and share what their plan is..

    This is just ridiculous!
