  1. Spaz tyres as strong as always

Nothing wrong with Spez tyres. I didn't have any issues last year with the normal fast traks at the epic. If you ride a *** line no tyre will bail you out

  2. Well, we did not really know who Howards Grotts was when he arrived here last here, and they ended up winning.

It's gonna be a tough race up front, there's good teams. Hopefully everybody will stay healthy so we can see a honest races amongst the top guys.

How did you not know who Howard Grotts was before he rode epic last year? he has done multiple epics, won the US national jersey multiple times, represented them at the Olympics etc. And he has been part of the specialized racing team for quite some time as well...

He was a very well known mountain biker before he won epic last year...

  3. I see Nico Bell wihdrew before the announcement of Howard which meant Matt wouldve ridden with Wessel from Team NAD. Then he said he feels healthy enough and took the spot after Matt was partnered with Alan. I see this morning he has withdrawn again and now Gawie and Wessel will represent Team NAD.

  4. In the ladies it is hard to look past Anika and Anna for the win. In second ill pick Ariane and Maja and 3rd Mariska and Jenny.

    1. Investec Songo Specialized Ladies

    2. Kross Spur Racing

    3. Silverback-Fairtree

In the men things got a bit shaken up. My original pick would have been Jaro and Howard. I don't rate Sam Gaze in stage racing as every event he's entered he has exploded on one of the stages. This is in things like W2W and Tankwa. I cannot see them getting onto the podium. From the red jersey it is really exiting to see Alan and Matt team up. Depending on how it goes with the team assistance I can actually see them getting onto the GC podium.

The cannondale boys are always dangerous and Nino will be up there if he can keep his partner alive.

    1. Scott Sram MTB (Nino and Andri)

    2. Cannondale Factory Racing(Manuel and Henrique)

    3. Specialized Foundation NAD(Alan and Matt)

  5. Thanks everyone - as always, appreciate the input!

Good call on the Assos arm covers! Are they available to buy a the Epic, does anyone know? Otherwise I'll try to pick some up before we leave this week.

Yes, they have a brand shop at registration on the Saturday where you will be able to buy any epic branded stuff. They even force you to walk through it after you receive your envelope with your race number, timing chip etc on your way to collecting your bag.

  6. Has anyone noticed recently that the Garmin Incident Detection has become really sensitive? In the last two weeks, it goes off once or twice every ride. It has never done that in the past and actually worked really well. Now I just want to turn it off...

Would be good to know if anyone else has noticed anything.

My 820 is still working perfectly. It has only ever gone off when I was in an actual accident. Ive never had false alarms.

  7. I unfortunately have made it twice.

The first time things were a bit slow, so I thought you never know the reasons.

This time however, in stock wasn't in stock and took over 2 weeks to source and send. Then it was supposedly sent express to make up for the delay, well that was like 2 weeks ago and they state 5 business days. FAIL

Good prices for sure, but service lacking

My package just dissapeared. Luckily they gave me a discount 8 weeks after the initial order

  8. I'm considering ordering a Quarq power meter from overseas. Roughly 630 GBP.

Would anybody have an idea regarding SA duties and clearance on that? Then I'd also need to add VAT on top of that I guess?

Perhaps it will wind up too expensive...

Quarq is a SRAM product so you're going to struggle to find a shop who will ship directly to South Africa and remove the UK VAT.
