  1. Max is being questioned as almost all of his stage racing partners over the past 3 years have been caught doping and banned. He was on the same team(Fedgroup) as Brandon Stewart and Kevin Evans when they got caught. Remember Kevin also denied knowing anything when David George was the first SA mtb'er to be caught for EPO.

Where there's smoke there's fire but if there is not a positive test you can't call him a doper

  2. The seeding system rewards recent form. That's why a race of 2 years ago will age and not have an influence on current seeding. The system makes perfect sense in my opinion...

  3. I think that people are allowed to sync their data (late syncs) up until all the challenges are completed on the specified dates, as long as they have entered the competition in time and actually completed those challenge on the dates required? So there are people who entered, most probably completed challenges in the specified period, but haven't synced it yet and will most probably do so before the competition closes...no way of knowing who should be removed or not. It sucks but that's the problem i see.

They should keep the master data and just add a tab which filters the master data for people who have up to date completed all the challenges. That way when someone syncs late, the filter will pick it up and provide an updated list. It really is a simple task.

  4. I started training with a coach at the start of September with the ultimate goal of pushing for a top 100 at the Epic next year.

From personal experience over the last 5 weeks I can say the following:

    • For my midweek sessions which can be 2 hours max, I get the absolute most out of them. There is no such thing as a wasted ride.
    • My rest is a lot more structured and thus more effective. This directly contributes to better results on the big effort days usually over weekends.
    • My numbers have already showed improvement over the last 5-6 weeks.

I have all the software and I have read all the articles on training peaks on how to interpret my power data. But do I know how to put together a structured plan to get the most benefit out of my training sessions... The simple answer is No...

The only secret to training with a power meter under a coach is to stick to the plan and do the sessions as prescribed. It takes a lot of commitment, and if you do that you will definitely see improvement. I doubt that you will go from a back of the bunch rider to a podium finisher but your personal performances will improve!

  5. Cant see so lekker on your map, but we basically came from waterkloof, crossing Hans Strydom at the Mcd's, going down the road in Pierre van Ryneveld ave. Basically below the bridge before you start the small drag towards Aerosud.

Yip thats the one I was trying to indicate on the map.

    Glad you are okay!!!

  6. Jip, it was me...

Around 5:10 am, we were two, coming from Mcdonalds side, and they tried to jack us under the bridge. we only saw one, but maybe the rest was still setting up the trap. My buddy was about 30 meters in front of me, as I was on a mtb he on a roadbike.

He managed to avoid the hijacker, and sped of, and I turned around and started sprinting away the way we came. Suspect #1 then turned his attention on me and started chasing me, screaming " I am going to shoot, I am going to shoot".

He came to probably 2 meters from me, so if he wanted, he could have shot me point blank in the back.

I set my new PR (seriously) going up the climb and stopped at the robot at hans strydom.

    Glad to be alive!

went and opened a case before work, and gave it to the CPF leader in the area, seems they are planning to sort this **** out

Is this the spot you are referring to? I went past that Mcds at around 5am this morning on my way to klapperkop...

  7. Did not blow me away on the 59km.

First half was done @ a constant redline pace.

2nd half became a bit monotonous...the same scenery on the same koppie over and over.

    Entry page said 70km.

    Announcer said 63km

    Ended up being 59km

Feeling a bit robbed as the fee was for a 70km?

None of the trailseeker routes will blow you away as it is catered for the masses. If you want impressive technical routes, that is what they cater for in the Ashburton events.

As for feeling robbed, I don't understand why this comment is always made. It is not like we are paying per kilometer. We pay for the venue, water points, marshals etc.

Overall I was happy with the event at the new venue. Easy access. Nice enough route, although the first half felt like a road race averaging 30kph. The second half started sorting out the dirt roadies from the MTB'ers a bit with the short steep climbs, sand, rocks etc.

Happy with my time of 2h24 on the Marathon

  8. You don't NEED their fancy new chainring. That's simply an additional level in the chain retention stakes. If AB says that their rings work with Eagle, then they work with Eagle. They're an established company that would not make that claim without having first tested it out themselves.

What I am actually after is if any 1X NW ring will work and if anyone have tested it.

A prime example of this is the Rotor InPower cranks. I cannot find anything on the interweb and thus asking if anyone has actually tested it in real life.

  9. A question that keeps popping up that I cannot find the answer to is if the Eagle groupset will work with aftermarket chainrings like Absolute Black, Wolftooth, CSIXX etc.

According to SRAM you need their fancy new ring, but according to Absolute Blacks website their standard Narrow Wide ring works with Eagle.

Has anybody gotten their hands on an Eagle groupset yet to check this?

  10. Live segments is a very nifty little feature, but I am at the point where I want to switch it off. It works fine on long drags or road sections, but on tight twisty technical MTB segments I get the "off-segment" message about 9 times out of 10 on my Edge 520.

This is also about the only feature I use from Strava Premium, as strava's fitness trackers, power analysis etc are useless compared to Trainingpeaks and WKO4. Strava's fitness graph in the premium feature only looks at cycling and ignores any other activities. Pretty useless if you cross train.

My strava premium will not be renewed in 2017...

On another note, the ELEMNT seems like a feature packed device but I won't buy it simple due to its size. It is about the size of a Nokia 5110!!!

  11. I like the fact that they recognise the longer base type efforts. This is much more in line with the type of training I do, so I will be one of the first to opt in.

Very well explained shaper, it actually is not going to make much of a difference in the end. The difference comes in when you do those long base rides. On the normal programme you will be limited to 100 points(speed workout as you will be below 70%), whereas on the performance one if you go 3 hours plus you will actually get 600 points for the same workout if you stay above 60% which is barely moving TBH. Active recovery rides will also earn you more than the standard 100 on the performance option.

For fit people who already train more than 3 times per week the 900 goal on normal or 1200 on performance will be a breeze to achieve.
