We did a Sun City ride not so long ago...very flat except a few rolling hills abound..average 32k' p/h..for 135 k's in distance..Cadence ave at 98rpm..max 120rpm...up those hills we kept the cadence high...for very very brief moments I used the 53 ring...not to lose that speed & cadence...Now comes these big hills & surely I cannot go up them at 98rpm evev if I weigh 73kg's....I do try honestly.... Gumpole keep in mind not everyone can climb well and especially in high cadence...some cadences drop to 40rpm in some cases..would anything lower than that not strain the knee's??? perhaps not I suppose...I know on a bad day I or some days I do climb a tad slower...to reserve some energy for later.... Won't say it's silly but I read the pro's comments/books on sitting/cadence etc but this is me as I see it...my way of riding...I agree sitting is more efficient but personally I cannnot train all my life sitting on climbs I need to use my leg muscles & I exert a bit more force at times...I train high cadence / aerobically anyway most of the time. will this help you climbing a hill in the seated position? I think it does, maybe some will differ.... "DT"
  5. Why is the saddle sliding backwards in the first place ??? On set-up's I could never ride well/comfortable enough with a saddle too far back..at one time my arms were fully extended to reach as it was set up...I experimented myself & am now so comfy with the saddle raised slightly, moved forward & as far as climbing goes I'm happy with it...I will fit my own replacement saddle if I have to because I have recorded my settings... I always preferred sitting the climb out .... at times I stand especially when I need to add an extra bit of force up the climb or try playing catch-up ...On most hills depending on their gradient I usually slack a little---find a gear to spin in & hold my breath for 15sec...a few times & increase the rhythm as the hill gets steeper...sometimes I'll train hills where I stand 90% of the climb..... A pittence worth...... "DT"

  9. Yeah & makes everyone looks like such a Pro----I seem to re-call an article in Ride mag where people hung on every word R/Hunter spoke... But since Liberty is withdrawing from Pro-cycling sponsorships we may not have to subjected to S/Cycling for much longer....somehow this topic reminds me of doping issues----Chunky ??? re-call ?? yawn yawn,,,, "DT"
  10. I've seen it/heard of it but never tried it...never used to like braaing & getting my hands dirty that way...always left it for someone else to do until I actually tried it, now I like braaing on occasion.... "DT"

Actually I could not agree more Michelle---I did a loop of 130k's and came up from Magaliesburg..did Hekpoort to Ontdekkers as my last stretch...I rode into this race and with a few cyclists...I saw the congestion/aggravation of some motorists and the cyclists walking on gravel....In that heat all you want to do is be finished with your race & not getting bumped....   21. I warm up on an indoor trainer....do not have rollers....works for me. COFFEE IS ALSO GOOD.........no just kidding. "DT"
  22. Have only one bike & 3 wheelsets....2 training sets and one racing set....don't mind the change over from time to time tho'.....all I'm gonna do is upgrade to 105 10sp.... "DT"
