  1. Looks like a classic case of hesitatititus. Slow down just a little too slowly, with a view to roll down and then trying to stop right at the wrong moment. Getting out of the saddle just when the bike is on the cusp of going over the first rock, unsettling the front wheel and just whoopsie daisy.... Should just have carried on riding...
  2. It's basically there to protect gross negligence and/or malpractice and the psychological / physiological ramifications thereof. LOADS of nerves there for, well, erm... stimulating.
  3. All true, med aids have their owb induvidual rates which are loosely based on the old NHRPL list, and are adjusted for inflation and medical advancement each year. Still not anywhere near what they should be, but then if they were then the med aid policies would be far more costly. Especially if they maintain the existing structure and can't rare according to health. Just didn't realise that the PI cover was that expensive for some of the disciplines. Are you sure!?
  4. Essentially (in an accident) in order for it to be considered and paid as a PMB you need to be in danger of losing life and limb, and then the med aid you're with van request you to be moved to a hospital of their choice (either network hospitals or state facilities, depending on the med aid) If you're brought in to a non network / Designated Service Provider (DSP) then your bills will be covered until such time as you are considered "stable" and then once stable you need to be moved within a certain time frame, or your bill will NOT be covered in full. Sometimes it's better to have a claim admitted as a normal claim instead of insisting on PMB treatment, especially if you weren't transferred to a network hospital within the required time frame. So yeah. It's not as clear cut as "everything must be paid if it was a PMB" - far more to it, as Talus says. Bottom line - everyone and I mean everyone needs gap cover. I just hope the changes don't go through as the legislators want them to. That will change the face of things for sure.
  5. One word. Awesome. Apparently the Magic Mary is even better
  6. Muddy Mary front, HD rear. Used to have HD front and WTB weirwolf rear. The Mary tracks FAR better in pretty much everything, an the knobs seem to be holding up a lot better. HD seems to wear very quickly, and is picky about the pressure you run it at. ONLY go for the Snakeskin version, or the Super Gravity. Then pacestar / trailstar on the back, and trailstar on the front.
  7. Only on sections. AFAIK it's only from Muizenberg up till the Ottery Road offramp (incoming) that you can ride on the M5 and then again after the Koeberg interchange (outgoing) - the bit in the middle is classed as a motorway and is illegal to ride on. Sure I remember reading something to that effect on one of the city's websites.
  8. At your weight, go 203mm at the front. It really does make that much difference. And don't worry about getting the Hope ones. Go for any brand, cheap alligator jobbies are good as well. And the difference in weight is negligible. Difference in stopping power is mahoooosive.
  9. BAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!! EDIT: Reminds me of this tune... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lITuHDdhdkw
  10. 100% Oh. And Dan Dobinson at iRide Africa is your man for skills clinics. A beast on the bike and an all round good guy.
  11. How heavy are you? If above 80 I'd advise the flows in place of the crests.
  12. Yeah. Look - you'll probably use up loads of sealant with those tires, as the sidewalls weep faster than Hakkinen after a crash, and need loads to seal. But you can do it if you're patient and use a load of sealant.
  13. No, but they can be easily converted with a tubeless kit, or duct tape and a tubeless valve.
  14. The OEM Giant wheels are bulletproof. The current ones, that is. Previous incarnations were a little noodly, but the new ones (2013 onwards afaik) are great. Heavier than the likes of your Crest / Flow / Arch & Hope combo, but not by much. Their durability is excellent, and they're easier to service. I wouldn't upgrade them yet. First thing I'd get is a dropper. Even die-hard anti-dropper snobbies are loving them and wondering how they survived without one. Yes, they add weight. But the 200g or 300g that they do add is faaar outweighed by their functionality. Get one. SLX is a perfect gruppo. You won't be gaining anything by going up to XT, except the loss of a few grams here and there. 2nd upgrade would be to get a tubeless conversion done, and get rid of the standard Schwalbes on there, swapping them out with the Schwalbe SNAKESKIN TLR tires of your choice (Nobby Nic up front and Rocket Ron out back, maybe, seeing as you're down here in Tokai - they offer reasonable levels of grip without being stupidly expensive, and are far better than the Racing Ralph guys when the going gets tough. From there... the only tangible upgrade would be the rims. But then you're spending stupid money to get the durability of the Giants while losing the weight. So - dropper. DEFINITELY Tubeless conversion with proper tires Wheels. But only after the dropper & tubeless conversion.
  15. Yeah Cap. Your last point is exactly what I'm wondering about.
