  1. Yes, yes, yes. 1,000 times yes. Widely praised in the reviews, would buy. Excellent price, too. Okay, the nx isn’t exactly stellar, but it’s a darn good entry into the ibis fam.
  2. my experiences exactly. As for Maxxis / Spaz - Stoke carry Maxxis, and they're my go to. I used to ride Schwalbes Magic Mary up front (which I still LOVE) but it's not a tyre I'd choose to run on the back, again and local availability is spotty in the variant I like (Super Gravity) Spaz is also decently priced and the Slaughter is my favourite of those types of tyres (ridden the slaughter, Minion SS & Rock Razor) as it has the best straight line braking performance, and it's pretty cheap, comparatively. Plus it comes in a good casing. Dissector should be here soon, apparently. I also want to try the Vittoria Moto and others, as well as the Kendas which you can now get locally.
  3. I don't know, and I don't remember seeing any tests with those sorts of guidelines. I've seen the recent ones by GMBN and Vital, but they all do a comparison between lightweight fast rolling and heavy grippy, not heavy fast rolling & lightweight grippy. That would be a very interesting comparison, and teh compound would also come into it... For the back, I'd love an Ikon in DD casing, but they just don't exist. Closest would be the Slaughter / Minion SS / Rock Razor / e13 jobby, which is what I'll get next (again)
  4. That's fine, I know you have more experience than me on the "faster tyres" and more real world experience. I know that it will have an effect when it's weighted, and I should have clarified that (maybe the posts insinuated it won't at all, which wasn't my intention). My point was that overall, the rear tyre has more effect on rolling resistance than the front does, due to weight distro on the majority of the ride. We pedal more often than we coast, and that's where most of the RR gains are made... For a DC bike I'd still spec one of the super grippy bois at the front. Minion / Assguy / Elim etc, but not in the heavy casings.
  5. They feel like a good option, too. They're pretty much an aggressor-lite. Shorter knobs than the Assguy and better transition knobs than the old butcher. New Butcher also looks kiff, but I haven't ridden one yet.
  6. I love those slaughters, so fast. Re fast rolling assegai. Yeah that's a contradiction in terms for sure, but it has a lower impact at the front. Norrafok would I suggest it for the back. No offence taken at all tho man. Oh. Do yourself a favour and get the Eliminator when you need to change the front tyre. Really is good. For the purposes of Downcountry tho, my choice remains slaughter R / elim F. @grease - is my def of Downcountry maybe a bit different to yours? I think it's essentially "endurofying" a short travel bike.
  7. See, I get this. But I'd also love to have the choice of an Ikon or an ardent race or Ikon etc in a proper tough casing for the back, and I would want minion levels of grip at the front. ????
  8. Yeah, which is why I said that his stated combo would be absolutely fine. I just injected my personal preferences, too. For that ride, I'm sure I'd also be fine on it, but given my experiences I find 200g to be a small price to pay for that peace of mind. And no, dude. Nothing douchey about it. What the real douche seems not to understand is that my recommendations are based not only in my personal experiences, but also those of those I ride with, and the articles etc that I read and understand. But hey. I wouldn't ride that combo (unless they came in proper casings), but it doesn't mean Chad shouldn't.
  9. I'm just hesitant to suggest an ardent race out front. Rekon or forekaster instead, maybe? Slaughter out front? Neva
  10. slaughter / elim. I'd personally do the DH slaughter at the back, but that's me and my fear of tyre failure. You could be fine with the grid casing. Ardent race / rekon or ardent race / aggressor tho tbh instead of the ardent race at the front. Reason I like the slaughter is that it rolls damn fast but has that edge grip when you lean it.
  11. Ya, Downcountry... Personally (which is what I said) I'd never put a tyre on the back that isn't DD/DH/SG casing. Unless I ran 30 plus psi at the back, which in itself is atrocious. I just don't trust lighter casings on the back, man. And I don't want to run the pressures that you need to run to have some semblance of protection. Edit: well done on the 24h man. Was moer warm this weekend!!!
  12. again, PERSONALLY. Rolling resistance predominantly affects the back. I want grippy grip up front, and an assegai / elim in exo plus / grid works just fine for that. Not as heavy as the DD / DH casing and grips for days. Assegai is definitely slower than the eliminator tho, so I'd probably go to the elim. I'd also consider the Aggressor as a front tyre, but again it's not that much lighter than the assegai or elim. I wish the likes of the Ikon came came in a good, strong casing. Plus. The question was for Downcountry. IE short travel but blasting the descents. I've found that changing the front tyre has significantly lower effect on the rolling resistance than the rear tyre does, but changing to a less grippy front has far more effect.
  13. Yeah. That would suit, but for me it's a no no as the IKON doesn't come with a suitable casing. Just Exo / Exo Plus, which in my opinion shouldn't be on the rear of MY bike. I'm just too **** at choosing lines and klapping things in the trail, and don't "float" over the trail. If it came in a DH / DD casing, I'd be all over it. Personally, an ideal fast rolling combo at the moment would be Slaughter (DH casing) and Eliminator / Asseguy (Grid / Exo Plus / DD) It's a pet peeve of mine that the tyres I want to use at the back don't come with good casings and don't last, or are the softest compound on offer and also, don't last.
  14. Ja, was about to say. That sole looks fresh. ????
  15. On that bike? No. Fox 34 stepcast would be a better option if you're looking for something light, in my opinion
  16. Yep. I have often kept pace with cars and taxis during traffic. It's not difficult, and doesn't require going through the stops or reds. And I'm not fast.
  17. Joh dude, angry much? If anyone did that (your example) it's got nothing to do with having the snip and everything to do with just being a plain old _DICK_. Besides, nobody is saying they wouldn't get spousal permission for it, just that in terms of the procedure it isn't a requirement. At all. Also. Try not to pass judgement on those who choose to go through or have been subjected to divorce proceedings when you know fkall about the underlying circumstances.
  18. Rocksole, Durasole and a few other places do it very well. Def doing mine when the time comes.
  19. No, it doesn't. You're reading into things, and looking for **** that just isn't there. It's from a company called Vattie Kakkie, which uses Cape slang in their goods. ALL dems are perps of this, and the language does not single out just one, just because you don't speak like that.
  20. No, not at all. If I want another kid I can have one. Just reverse the procedure and hey presto. Difference is, I’ll now definitely have to plan it as the cost of reversal is ~50k. it’s just safer, that’s all. No chance of a mistake / unplanned pregnancy etc. what are you trying to insinuate here tho, kransie?
  21. Yrah, they carry on being produced, but the bridge is broken. In a manner of speaking...
  22. FWIW, I got mine done 18 months before I separated from my ex. So quite a bit before.
