  1. We have the same problem. But i've come up with a semi solution, seeing as outside doesn't work. I've taken them upstairs, and put the front wheel & fork over the railing on the stairs. Enough space for 4 bikes, and it holds them solid. Just need to arrange a strap or something to keep them closer to the railing, otherwise we hit our heads on the way down...
  2. Okay - Momsen gets my vote. Better wheels (far better) and an Air fork where the rest are bottom of the range coil forks. Also has SLX bits and the best tires of the lot. Also has an external BB as opposed to the Octalink types of the others, which makes it easier to service and replace any parts later on. MOMSEN all the way on this one.
  3. a mate of mine had the RD350. Damn, that thing went! Before that, though, he had a Kawa KR 250 2 stroke. Tandem twin. OMFS. That thing made the 350 look stupid, and it only ran on one cylinder at the beginning. Which is kinda strange, seeing as KAWA rated it as having less power than the Yam. But it definitely had more power.
  4. hence the capacity of your lungs for those gutbusting climbs...
  5. ROFL @ Tiny K's detractors. A clue wrt Tiny. His name is a bit of a misnomer. He doesn't exactly have small legs.
  6. I remember seeing that press release... heartening for sure.
  7. South African College School. It's in Newlands area, just down the road from Forries. And yes, the sunrise was truly epic... hope I can get the time for a ride this afternoon. Not too sure I can wiff teh little one at the moment.
  8. The release that it gives me. The feeling of being ne with the bike. But oversll, the profound feeling of joy that i get when i point it downwards after the sufferfest that is the ride to the top. Priceless
  9. Okay. Swisses sit the bike better ito colour co ordination, but I know you like colour co ordinating as much as Barney likes the teletubbies. Also, I still would take the SPANKS. I think they're more suited to that riding, and will stand up to the punishment you're going to give them. Go safe, go white.
  10. 1.83 & 103kg. Large build (not called the Rock Whisperer for nothing)
  11. Maxxis, don't fall for this tactic by the V! He just wants to lure you in so he can fondle your schpongle!
  12. No. The RECON is a far better fork than the xc30, and the 9 speed drivetrain has nothing wrong with it.
  13. more: Raleigh Marathon DS Spez Merida Matts Lite Spez Stumpy DS Raleigh RM 9.0
  14. bikes: DS Giant Anthem GT Zaskar - Very good bike - bit overpriced though Merida 120 DS - another good bike Scott Scale LTD 26er
  15. just use your maglite on strobe function and play Kernkraft 400 through your speakers and you'll be fine.
  16. okay - then for the majority of riding that you're doing I'd suggest a 29er, purely because it is better on the long flat stuff. Saying that, I'd also suggest going 2nd hand, purely because for your R 8k you'll get a LOT more bike than if you were buying new. And yes, the resale value will hold far better if you for any reason decide to upgrade later on down the line. Going with your choices though: In terms of parts, the scotts are pretty much the same, the only real difference being the fork which is the Tora Air on the Aspect (serviceable, but not that much better than the 29er's XC32 which is pretty much the 29er version of the Tora) If you were going for a 26er, I'd go for the Silverback for sure. Parts spec is better, and the fork is a recon as opposed to the tora (a level above and therefore lighter and better for the price) I wouldn't go for the merida. so - i would recommend a 29er, but the improved specs of the Silverback make that the top bike. For you, I'd recommend riding the 2 (SB & Scott 9er) and see which one you like best. If you like the 9er, the scott is the one. If you like the characteristics of the 6er, then go for the SB. For a grand less than the scott, it's a steal, and you'd be bonkers not to go for it instead of the Scale.
  17. I have big hands (more like plates) and the thin grips don't do it for me. I end up getting sore wrists and hands all the time. So I traded up and got me some of the Ritchey foam lock-on grips. Oh. My. Word. Contoured for the hand, lekka thick and tough foam, and they last (reasonably). They also have a bit of a lip that fits between my index & middle finger, so I can grip the bars more solidly. For R 150 or so, you can't go wrong. Tried the Ryder lock ons (think n thin) - no go. Stock grips - too stodgy and grip worth shaite in the wet. These Ritcheys are the bomb. And no more sore hands either... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Full/39259.jpg
  18. Lol. Then we'd be able to say that he's doing a RIMjob.
  19. Yeah. I was referring to the diffs between spark & genius though. Personally, I prefer the newer version.
