  1. If it was bought at a sale, then I'm afraid there's no recourse if they stipulate no return on sale items. Which is why you have to be super careful with sizing...
  2. Best book ever - Mountain Biking Skills by Brian Lopez & Lee McCormack. Plain language, and goes through everything you need to know & learn, step by step. Loads of pictures as well. Well worth the money, and I refer to it all the time. I have both the 1st & 2nd edition of the book - I have to say I prefer v2, but then v1 is also VERY relevant.
  3. The phrase's earliest recording is from 1546 as "wolde you bothe eate your cake, and have your cake?" (John Heywood's 'A dialogue Conteinyng the Nomber in Effect of All the Prouerbes in the Englishe Tongue')[1] alluding to the impossibility of eating your cake and still having it afterwards; the modern version (where the clauses are reversed) is a corruption which was first signaled in 1812. Further misconception has been perpetuated in main-stream media by Douglas Pace[citation needed] during his argument that it is in fact the order of the eating and having which matters, similar to the chicken and the egg conundrum. Taken from Wiki
  4. You're both right, actually. Both versions are acceptable in the English language. Wiki wiki
  5. I need to upgrade my XC's bars. They're too narrow! I'm also going to go to the Boo's. Got them on my DH bike and they're AWESOME/
  6. Agreed. Otherwise what is the point of paying for the fitting? It's like buying a new car, but swapping a panel of your existing car for a panel of the new car, week by week. It'll hurt far more than it will solve.
  7. Haha... Not stoopid, mate. Basically, the 183mm disc is slightly bigger than your normal 180mm (duh!) and as such you might experience some contact between the rotor & the caliper if you don't adjust the mounting of the calipers to accommodate the extra diameter. If you do experience some rubbing, there is a simple solution... Take the caliper off the bike, leaving the adapter on the fork, and grab 2 washers. Put one washer on each mounting bolt, so that the washer sits between the caliper and the adapter (not between the head of the bolt and the caliper) This will effectively offset the caliper by an additional 1 ~ 1.5mm (depending on the thickness of the washers) and therefore overcome your clearance problem, whilst maintaining the integrity of the brake system, and without having to go out and buy a new adapter. WRT the new brakeset - I have no idea. You might need new adapters for the SLX if the bike that it's going to has IS mounts for the calipers. Then again, if the bike the SLX is on at the moment also has IS mounts, then you might not. If both bikes have Post Mounts, and you already have a 180mm adapter, then you should also be fine...
  8. Yeah, Renay is the guy I'd be going to as well. He operates out of Epic Bike Shop now... And is less than a k away from my place...
  9. And if you're scared that your calipers won't be able to handle the extra 1.5mm radius of the hopes, you can just get a couple of washers, put them between the adapter 7 the caliper, and your clearance issues will be sorted.
  10. You can get a 6-bolt adapter for the centre-lock rotors if you want... Those XT discs seem to be pretty sturdy. Far sturdier than the Alligators, imo...
  11. +1 MTB_Roadie. I'm lucky in that I've found almost the right setting for me, but I witnessed an Ergofit session the other day and can truly say it is worth it. I'm going to be getting one of those for myself sometime soon...
  12. Try the ergofit setting, mate. You're not going to know how it feels unless you give it a chance.
  13. Hey Mach, The last thing you want to do is cut off 30mm off each side and find out that you've just made it very uncomfortable. If you're feeling uncomfortable, and have REALLY tested the width out in a lot of different conditions and over a period of time, My recommendation would be to cut 5mm off each side, then test again. If still uncomfortable, cut another 5mm. Test again. Repeat until comfortable. I know guys who run 520mm bars on their niners, and I know some who run much larger than that. Each to their own. One q - have you really ridden it properly yet, over a long period of time? Last thing you want to do is cut it straight off the shelf, as you'll never know if that was the right width for you...
  14. Stevie, just a word of warning. You are NOT allowed to ride a bike on the promenade. Strictly forbidden. Just so you know...
  15. By the way - does anybody know who was doing the photography? I'd like to see a few pics of the event...
  16. Giant? GIANT? It's a GT, mate... Get it right! Gah! Rofl. Anyway - I didn't come last, and had a blast. Ticked both boxes!
  17. ROFL. Where were you standing? Were you one of the smartasses that told me to "PEDAL!" at the schoolgrounds!? If you were at the logs though, you would have seen me come clattering down quite slowly (quick for me) in my Billabong hoodie and on cleats.
  18. DUDE! I thought you were gonna run!? It was a lekker event. Yes, not that tech. Yes, no red bull gals (pity) but a helluva good time was had by all. Only complaint was that damn pedally section on the field. OH. My. Hat. That was just somma sapping my energy, and everyone else's! Pottie was on form, and fast. Fastest speed was 62. something, and considering how wishy washy the top section was, that's quite some speed! I almost cased it at just before the speed trap. Front washed out, and I had one of those "OH FK" moments and managed to correct. But that blasted my confidence for the 2nd run, and only managed a 4m07 or something compared to the 4m13 on the 1st run. Overall though - it was awesome. Well worth it. We need more of these things in the city!
  19. Dude, release that pressure! Seriously! Take the fork down to about 150psi for both + & - air chambers. Then set the compression damping a bit higher. 200PSI is WAY too high for any fork. I'm 101kg and have mine at 135/140 psi and it works like a dream.
  20. Hirsch's are good for that! My grandfather managed to get them to go below cost price on a TV, by bringing along a 6 month old GAME opening specials advert. He just neglected to show them how old the ad was!!!
  21. LOL! I would imagine that it has everything to do with being able to clip in a bit more easily!
