  1. Just another tip... since everybody mention 'fine' sandpaper... I polish plastics and polyurethanes all the time. Don't use anything coarser than 600 grit carbide paper. In this application 600 should be 'coarse' and 1200 fine. Don't apply pressure while sanding, sand lightly and as the grit clogs up, it'll automatically become finer. Sometimes I don't even use abrasive papers, I just go straight to the buff. Be carefull when buffing plastic/perspex/etc. do many light passes, you don't want the material to heat up and melt.
  2. The Revelation-3R has just been launched 2 months ago. No way you coul've used one in Trans Baviaans before. Must be one of the much older ones. The light would've have moved if it was tightened properly. The Revelation-3R is a brand new light that's almost double the brightness of the old one and 220g lighter, with the same burn time... 110g light head unit, 35mm dia... Total light output measured in integrated sphere: 2006-2008: Revelation-3 - 720g, narrow or medium beam : 57 Lux 2008-2009: Solo 620 - 450g : 40 Lux 2010: Revelation 3R - 550g : 90 Lux 2010: Revelation-7 - 600g : 135 Lux Magicshine MJ-808 : 40 Lux SigmaSport Karma : 10 Lux
  3. My last order was shipped on Friday and at my local PO on Wednesday... in UITENHAGE... meaning.. it was in JHB on Sunday already... Parcelforce normally takes a week... And shop around... CRC is by no ways always the cheapest... sometimes eBay has much better deals... sometimes CWC or my local shop beats them too...
  4. Aerozine BB's (the one that came with my crank) doesn't have a sealing system. Actually, it relies on the bearing's cover seals only, with only a plastic cover over the side, which let dirt in. Piece of crap. Get any X-Type cups and put Enduro bearings in... not only very good bearings, but has a great sealing system.
  5. This almost ALWAYS happen because the bead has stretched, BUT can also happen on certain rims, depending on the rim hook height and shape AND depending on the tyre brand, some has tight fitting beads, others don't... I've personally never had a problem with a Kenda... In fact, I love Kenda's... It's happen to me as well before. I now NEVER inflate any non-tubeless or tubeless tyre above 2.5 bar when seating, and never over 2 bar while riding... (70kg rider) Are you using a thick type rim strip like Stans? or just tape?
  6. My new battery mount is finished and the first ones to be moulded this weekend. Will accommodate the Magicshine battery perfectly and is designed to mount on the top tube... +- R100
  7. The DT fork = much more maintenance... Without offending anyone... search MTBR.com for Tune hub issues... there's many...
  8. Profile Design... will never lose a bottle again...
  9. I don't have a problem with the few NCR postings... But do have a problem with... Parts for sale... Wheelset for sale... Bargain... Shifters... I can go on forever... IDENTIFY WHAT YOU ARE SELLING -> ROAD or MTB ROAD: followed by description MTB: followed by description
  10. Maybe they 'thought' XT Crank... or XX Cassette...
  11. Very sad to hear. When I rode there last summer, I thought that anyone can easily hide and get away in the tall grass in that singletrack section towards the western border... what to do is the question...
  12. My mentioning main roads means GRAVEL ROADS
  13. I know for a fact that EPIC follwed the main road from Riversdale to Swellendam in 2006 or 2007... past Korentepoort dam... I've ridden there a lot and recognised it in EPIC photos of mates... And if you go google earth, you'll see that there's only ONE road through the mountains from Calitzdorp to Riversdale... via Rooiberg Pass... then right onto Van Wyksdorp gravel, then left towards Riversdale - same section Klein Karoo Klassiek used.
  14. Any grease is waterproof... interesting you mention it as I just searched 'marine grease' yesterday. I'm not going into detail about lithium, soap, clay etc. greases, but what works great for most bike apps. is Castrol WB... it's thick and sticky and once BB bearings are packed up with them, water doesn't easily get in. Do a search for boat trailer bearing grease. A few 'marine greases' available, but the Castrol chart even recommends normal CV joint grease (Castrol LM) for marine trailer bearings...
  15. Most likely route to follow from Calitzdorp to Swellendam is via the Rooiberg pass, to van Wyksdorp, then to Riversdale, from Riversdale via Grootvadersbosch to Swellendam... check them in google earth... easy to spot the main roads...
  16. Get a XT. The clamp design allows for easy take-off to service or clean BB. Stylo 3.3's I've weighed were up to 930g... (same as LX) even though claimed 860g... XT's are 860g spot on, and don't use the stupid spacer sleeve of the Stylo.
  17. Glad you like it. If the battery gives problems after the 3 month guaranty period, send it to me. I'll rebuild it with reliable electronics. If you're looking for longer burntime, I have Lithium-Polymer batteries that will double your high beam burn time for only R700-00.
  18. 2009 Trans Baviaans winners (Lategan brothers) used Barro TNT's during TB.
  19. If the problem is air pressure lost, you can repair yourself - easily. Air Sleeve Service If it's damping problems, it'll have to be done by the agents as it'll need a nitrogen refill. Call Steven Cradock. Find his number on THIS page My link
  20. Contador and Schleck are good friends and have been on holiday together before. Not sure how the recent incident influenced that, but they didn't look like enemies after crossing the line yesterday...
  21. Not nearly as much stress as you would put on them sprinting for instance, EVEN if the forces are in the total oppisite direction.
  22. Up to 3 weeks. Generally less than 2 weeks.
  23. Downlighter: 15-19 lumens per Watt (and most have wide angle beams, giving the impression of even less light on the trail at such low output) Older LED's: 60-80 Lumens per Watt Latest LED's: 120-145 lumens per Watt If you HAVE to use a downlighter, get a 4 cell (14.8v) lithiumm polymer battery... performs much better than li-ion at high current. You can then use the battery for your future DIY high power LED light. The 14.8v will be around 16.8v when fully charged, which means that you'll be overdriving the 12v downlighter, which will make it a lot brighter, and lessen the lifespan to about 30 hours. I've ran 12v downlighters off 17-21v before I started making LED lights. The main reason for that is increased brightness, and if you ever decide to build a LED light (which you eventually will), you can use the same battery pack to drive various LED combinations with.
  24. not nice...
  25. Yes I have, many times before. I know dogs, I'm not scared of them, and it doesn't take much to see if a certain agressive dog will bite or not... Most dogs will run if you stop and attack them. Some won't but that's where I use pepperspray and my judgement... Dogs are very sensitive, if you're confident while atacking or chasing them away, they'll know... Some dogs won't buldge and that's where you have to get off your bike and keep your bike between the dog and yourself - pepperspray immediately sends any dog in the opposite direction...
