  1. Once you have a critical power number then you can create workouts and train accordingly, same as you would do with cycling. Also once you have a spreadsheet with different powers relating to different pace, you can do a run or race at specific power. Stryd app has a calculator to do this but is easy enough to create a spreadsheet of the correlation of power to pace. i.e, if you want to run a 10km at 6min/km, that will relate to say 200w (for ease of numbers). Irrespective of whether it is a flat 10km or hilly 10km, if your run to power (a consistent 200w) you expend the same amount of energy but will be more efficient especially on the hilly course.
  2. Running power is always higher than cycling power, you cannot compare the two.
  3. What you need to do is runs at different paces, firstly to see how constant the power reading is and to start building a pace correlation to power spreadsheet. i.e something like 200w is 6min/km pace, 220w is 5:30min/km (which will be specific to you). If it is consistent over time running similar pace and getting power, then you can do a critical power test and start building your Power Distribution Curve. https://support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003989074-How-do-I-perform-a-critical-power-test-and-get-my-critical-power-and-zones- https://support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039261314-Critical-Power If you are still using your WK04, you will be able to create a running power curve. If you have started using Golden Cheetah, you can use the in built cycling power curve and then use the filter for running activities only. You will also need to filter your cycling power curve in Golden Cheetah for cycling activities only. Running power numbers are higher than cycling, so you need to have the 2 different power curves else things get a bit skewed. And if still using Xert, they do not differentiate activities in their power calculations, even though this has been asked for in the forums. Xerts answer is that you have to create 2 profiles, one for cycling and one for running, and upload your activities accordingly, so that you don't skew the power curves
  4. lol even in more recent times some of the more hilly races, I watch runners fly past me on hills as I slow down to stay close to my target race power, only to either pass them on the downhill or at some point later in the race as they fatigue quicker. Running to power has improved efficiency, pacing and finishing strong!
  5. Just been reading the reviews on the app, looks interesting. Once you have tried it out, please let us know if it gives real time data as you run or whether it just gives average per lap (as some seem to say). Post run it looks like it downloads the power data to Garmin connect, so possibly can be exported to other platforms. When training and racing with power, you need the data to be in real time on your watch which you can see and then adjust your running accordingly.
  6. What I have also found that not only can you pace or push better, but in training with stryd I have become more efficient a runner. Where last year, my pace would be relevant to a certain power, now at the same power my pace is faster! It is a small percentage but it can make a huge difference in overall race time.
  7. After 2yrs of training and racing with a stryd, i have a spreadsheet with power v pace v hr, can pick a race finish time and run it almost to the second. With Trainingpeaks you can create workouts as a percentage of your critical power. Works very well, so all my workouts and plans are either pace based or power based depending if the athlete has a stryd. It even works out your TSS, so can build the workouts specific and not only on power. Edit: you can also create your workouts with the stryd app https://support.stryd.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043729754-How-to-create-a-workout-on-the-Stryd-Workout-app
  8. So power numbers settled down now that bike is clamped in the Kickr properly? You may want to invest in a bike setup for correct cleat positions as well as bike fit. Especially with the back issues. Try https://www.cyclefit.co.za/
  9. Saw that yesterday, almost considered buying it just for the wheels, but have too many frames at the moment, so trying offload another frame when there is no racing is going to be difficult, so not to be. Bargain for someone if it does add up
  10. So CapeTown Marathon has been cancelled. 4 months notice and a full refund. They going to do a virtual race on the day. Doubt there will be any races this year!!
  11. I have run with a Stryd footpod for the last 2 years, has changed the way I run for both training and racing. Training as I can dial in which zones to hit for certain intervals and definitely pacing when it comes to a race. I run purely on target power these days rather than pace or HR. My HR generally relates to power, so I know if I stay to certain power zones, my HR will correspond accordingly. Stryd pod you can get https://www.dinamic-coaching.com/shop/. It is not cheap and there are alternatives and work around: For training, many now train on pace and a percentage of your lactate threshold pace rather than HR. Garmin not long ago introduced on the Fenix and 945 "PacePro" https://www.garmin.com/en-US/performance-data/wearable-maps/pacepro-feature/ If you have a GPX file for a race you are doing, you can input all the data and your desired race finish time and PacePro will do the rest, taking into account changes in elevation etc and advising what pace to run accordingly. So if you struggle to pace properly or burn matches by attacking hills, it is something to consider. As for TickrX and garmin run pod, cannot comment as have not used, but am sure DC Rainmaker will have indepth write up on them.
  12. Not received any email yet, think it is due on 01 August. Have not done any swimming since middle of March, at least the running an cycling are ok although not feeling as fit as normally would, yet my numbers are up there. In the meantime have ordered a neoprene cap, so if our gyms are not open, come August will go do some cold open water swimming, so can at least have 5-6 weeks of swimming if it is confirmed on 01 August that is going ahead. Might be a well untertrained and interesting event. As for the closed entries, maybe they just not taking any more at this time until it is confirmed is going ahead. Although just looked at the start list, seems pretty full. Am there Even if does go ahead, not sure will be able to get a flight to the UK, holding thumbs by then everything will be open and the quarantine won't exist. Might be a mad dash for flights/accomm if and when. As an aside got a VIP early bird entry email for IM Ireland 2021 today.... wonder if they trying to tell me something?
  13. David, Just now need to set up a train view and to control the trainer, then you have workout creator, or workout import, then controller for the workout and post work analysis! All in one May be of interest https://developers.wahooligan.com/
  14. Just hearing on a WA group, RD ran a 7:58 for the 3km
  15. I guess some people feel strongly about it and wanted to voice their point of view. Granted that comment could have been done a better way or in a more constructive manner.
  16. Well from what I can see, there are very few who have become bikehub plus members. So no real need to rant about it as does not seem to be of interest or benefit most.
  17. ^^^^ what they are all saying, Win10 and Ant+ dongle. It is the bet set up and what I use for Win10 laptop with Kickr Core. Win10 BLE drivers can be an issue and often get corrupted.
  18. Most people who are internet savy are aware that we give our data and also as part of that we get targeted ads, usually based on your last couple of internet searches. It's the price we are prepared to pay for use of such services for free. However, even if through a paywall, you cannot guarantee your data and information is not being used, even if you are given the option to opt out.
  19. Great project and am sure many good memories!
  20. Yet only last December the hub community was not deemed the core of the bikehub and that classifieds were and hence the justification for the revamp of the website Forgive me quoting myself from another thread: Classifieds does account for the lions share of activity on Bike Hub (70% of page views on the site) so it is certainly an important factor for the business and a big focus for us moving forward. One of our goals is to better highlight this section, particularly for new visitors. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/184170-site-update-whats-new-feedback/?hl=site Call me a cynic or playing devils advocate here.... Covid19, reduction in classified traffic, reduction in site sponsors and advertising. Hello hub community, you are now important and you have to pay for it? It is the only forum that am on that have ever been now asked to pay for! So lets continue down this winding road. As stated... As a Bike Hub Plus member, your contribution means we pull the plug on external advertising networks which supplement our revenue but offer less control over your experience and privacy on Bike Hub. We all subscribe, we all start blocking adverts (personally I do not find them intrusive as no matter what site you go to whether social media, online forums, online newspapers... adverts are there and there to stay). Clients who want to pay for adverts now realise that their target audience actually have the ability to block adverts so there is no benefit in advertising on the Bkehub!! What then??? Bikehub hits forum community for more money to keep going? You join "Premium Bikehub" not just Bikehub plus????
  21. thanks for clarifying
  22. I suspect gumtree will get a lot busier now with bikes and parts!! Curious to know who is paying for the 20% discount? On a R100k bike that going to be significant and can't see a seller offering that. I doubt Bikehub will pay it as that a lot of memberships to recover......
  23. I did the same race in Bahrain, Mo Farah was taking it easy on the run, waving to the crowd. I was told by some friends waiting at the finish, that Mo could not count, what was a 3 lap run course, he did 2 laps, officials had to grab him after he thought he had finished and told him to go back out and do another lap lol. Whole weekend was PR event as they are sponsored by Bahrain, they were on stage at opening dinner, gave interviews around transition check in, got mobbed for autographs, again on stage at prize giving. Still a VERY impressive time though!!
  24. He holds the fastest Ironman 70.3 with a 1:07 run leg (after a 1:52, 90km bike) https://www.slowtwitch.com/News/Blummenfelt_Lawrence_win_Bahrain_70.3_7524.html
  25. Is what have heard, will find out in August. I guess a lot will depend if there is a C19 spike after the UK lockdown relaxes after June. Concern is, even if there are flights, this proposed 14 day quarantine on ariving in the UK might be an issue for many overseas athletes. I watch and wait, but may end up deferring to 2021.
