  1. It is better to take it in the sitting position than lying down. Wake up, sit up in bed, get relaxed then take the reading, especially if your are fairly fit We believe that you should measure with the body upright, either sitting or standing if you have a very low resting heart rate. This helps avoid a phenomenon called parasympathetic saturation when lying down which makes trends in HRV more difficult to interpret. https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/9-common-misconceptions-of-measuring-heart-rate-variability/ In rare cases with very high aerobic fitness and/or very low resting heart rates, it may be difficult to get accurate readings while lying down - this event is called "parasympathetic saturation". We recommend sitting or standing in these cases https://help.elitehrv.com/article/98-how-to-take-a-morning-readiness-reading
  2. Been using HRV4T since mid 2018,. I now have a good understanding of how my body reacts and use the daily recommendations as a general guide rather than fact, and use in conjunction to how am feeling on the day as well as the chart I follow. Best use for HRV is if you are a data junkie. Download the data and start plotting in conjunction with RHR, TSS etc. I have use Golden Cheetah since 2014, so is easy to create the chart and import the csv file to analyze. You can get a good indication if you maybe getting ill and as such will give you an idea of when to back off on the training and take it easier rather than do the HIIT sessions. To give you a basic understanding https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/how-to-use-hrv-to-predict-illness/
  3. Haha, isn't that the truth!! Is not only for athletes you are currently coaching, but also new athletes who want to sign up to train with you. Firstly everyone has been deferred a year, so a lot of events have limited or no spaces for registration. It becomes frustrating for those new athletes who cannot enter an event so do not sign up with a coach until they know they can enter. Then you add to that the factor of whether that event will still go ahead. Is sort of a double whammy for coaches. Trying to keep current athletes motivated and still training with you and loosing out on potential new athletes who have the urge but come the time when they can enter probably next year, may have moved on to something different, especially if there is no light at the end of the tunnel for such mass participation sports. It is going to take a long time to unravel even if these vaccines work.

  5. With events unlikely happen for a good part of this year (still hoping for mine in May & Sept), am sure many are selling and freeing up cash to do other things. Once events do start happening, would probably then look to get new kit and upgrade.
  6. If he has to get the parts from coolheat, it may take a while as stock during Covid19 is not great or available. You sure the RD is not in recovery mode and is why is not shifting?
  7. You got pics of inside the RD? If there has been a crash, the RD goes into crash mode and you would definitely see scratches on it, but my understanding there isn't? I have crashed my Di2 RD, well the hanger broke and the RD went into the wheel. It took quite a beating and the cage was bust. Replaced the cage and RD still works fine to this day. These things are quite robust even though they are electronic. So if something has happened to the internals, does not sound like a crash issue and something unlikely to have been seen if the bike was just boxed and sent. A crack in the housing of the FD might have been missed, but should not affect it's performance. If something goes wrong on a 2nd hand car from a dealer, the dealer will replace and fix it for you, not give you your money back. Personally I would just take the offer of the new FD & RD, replace on the bike and enjoy the bike you wanted and bought. They have made a good offer to rectify the situation. After all they cannot verify that your side of the story is actually what happened.

  18. What the email say?
  19. As Chris mentioned, get to the pool and start to swim, get confident swimming and building distance so that you know you have confidence completing a race swim distance. it does not have to be done fast. As a progression to 70.3, do Trinity, it is a well organised event and would recommend their sprint distance event in January. Don't race it, just do it and finish, get use to transition and changing from each discipline. It is a fairly easy open water swim (if the wind not blowing) and if you start pool swimming now, you will be able to do the 750m swim no problem. Having completed, then will be the time to reflect, Trinity have another event in April when you can build for their standard distance, (1.5/40/10) After that you can probably consider the 70.3 in June in Durban or Bela Bela in August with either East London 70.3 in Jan 22 and Durbs in June 22, or go straight to 70.3 distance. Then PE in 2023
