  1. On the cooking subject. Consider signing up for meal delivery services like uCook, Daily Dish etc. They deliver all the ingredients and the recipes for a few nights meals at the beginning of the week. The recipes are mostly very straightforward. And you can choose banting, vegetarian, classic etc. You don't have to shop. And you learn how to cook at the same time. They don't offer meals for one as far as I know, but if you sign up for the 2-person package, then your leftovers become lunch the next day.
  2. Condolences dude. I was in your position this time four years ago. Rode the CTCT route alone on Christmas day which turned out to be a blessing. Best bit of advice I got was, no-one wins a divorce. One day at a time.
  3. I wish these videos would feature the mid-fielders and back of pack plodders too. There's 500 (?) people riding this event but all the footage so far is focused on around 20 pros.
  4. Planning a ride for a party of 4/5 next year, Plett to Stellies. Would appreciate some logistical intel if you have. We don't have a sweep so need to get to plett from CT and make our way back unsupported. So far, the most cost effective scenario seems to be to hire a Kombi and drive up with bikes on 'our' roofrack and 'our' bike rack. Vehicle is dropped off at Beacon Isle. Hire cost around R2500. This seems to be a better bet than both bus or air travel. On arrival in plett we box and courier our bike/roof racks back to CT. We ride light, having couriered spare clothing and bits to every second or third stop. Essentially riding with food, evening clothes and the next day's riding gear. Sound workable?
  5. Okay braai people, what's the etiquette on eating order? Laaities, ladies, ooms, host?
  6. A question for the Discovery gurus. I have Discovery hospital plan, life insurance and vitality (diamond level) and Discovery credit card. My partner has her own Discovery medical aid, vitality (diamond) but uses the same Discovery credit card, a card linked to mine. I've recently gone from full time employment to freelance. My partner works at a corporate. Is there any advantage to be gained for me to become her dependent as far as Discovery goes? Is this even possible? At the moment our Discovery profiles are split (besides the Discovery credit card).
  7. They allow my 75 year old mother-in-law to join me on the trails. They allow my fat mate to get off the couch and keep up. Paaaalease.... pull the other one. The reality is this, e-bikes will get more and more powerful, someone will work out how to side step the pedal assist, and we'll land up sharing the trails with what are essentially electric MX bikes. It's going to happen, and then what will happen is that venue owners will have to make a call on whether admit everyone or differentiate between leg power and battery power. You as the consumer will then be able to choose who you want to share trails with. I know where I'd be spending my money. Because while many of you will be perfectly nice okes on an e-bike, there'll be a whole bunch of tjops who'll arrive on the scene who you most definitely won't want to be around. And that's speaking as someone who used to mess around on MX bikes. They're flippin' fun but a completely different dynamic to the general MTB scene. Having said this, I'm utterly and completely in favor of electric commuter machines.
  8. 'and cut up to the start of the path in the green belt a block later as it crosses over the N2 zipping round the back of the the Hospital.' I'm familiar with Anzio and how to get onto the path there, but not sure I follow what you mean by the green belt as stated above. Can you perhaps clarify? Thanks.
  9. Anyone got any intel on Honda Jazz? Looking at buying a Jazz for an elderly relative, probably the auto version. Something about 4-5 years old with under 100k km. Anything I should be aware of, specific to this make and model?
  10. Great piece. Very motivating. Thanks for including the map images. Just a pity you had to make up that last bit about Vermaaklikheid being a nice place. It's a terrible spot - they steal bicycles and girlfriends there and the beer is always warm. Rather push on a bit to Stilbaai.
  11. Shot, will be there soon. A warning, if you decide to bomb down that slope towards the M3 bridge, be advised that there's a brick culvert that blocks two thirds of the grass strip as it narrows near the waterworks. Naturally, this brick culvert is nicely hidden by the long grass. My skid marks might still be visible though.. Keep left and you'll be fine.
  12. Hope he got a fantastic price, the dude deserves every penny.
  13. Colour choice by committee. But I like the carbon stays instead of pivots. Trick...
  14. Really enjoying this series, don't stop.
  15. I've gone one further to 28c. Very happy. More comfortable ride, less twitchy. Only downside is that I have to deflate my tyres to get them past the brake calipers (even when opened).
  16. On the Discovery Miles front - not sure I have the maths right. If R15 on your Discovery card spend gets you 1 mile. And 10 miles gets you R1 spending value. Does this mean that you accumulate 0.6 cents of Discovery spend value for every R1 that you spend? I'd like to know how Discovery Miles stack up against the other credit card loyalty programs.
  17. True... that free smoothie does sometimes smell like cheese...
  18. Loving Vitality but it has taken me a long time to get into it. Once my rides were logged with them via my Garmin, my points went to Gold for the first time. Park Runs work well. And I do all the online surveys. I'm enjoying the 'free' smoothies of late and I'm told that this benefit is going to ramp up to include subsidized apple watch repayments and other interesting stuff - including 'free' flights (not the taxes but the base cost). Perhaps other hubbers know more about this? And for the first time, we've used my partner's diamond status to book flights, accommodation and car hire for a coming domestic trip. Which has saved us about R5k in one fell swoop and sees us staying in a much larnier hotel than we'd normally spring for. My life insurance premiums went down this year thanks to Vitality. But I think it all really only makes sense if you use the discovery card and have both life insurance and medical aid.
  19. Where's that cycle lane?
  20. I fancy a tactical baton, one of those telescopic jobbies. Anyone got any recommendations on this front?
