  1. I read the review on Cyclingnews. It sounds very nice. My concern with these and other innovations is that it is not tested in the real world. Face it - pro teams and riders don't live in the real world. In the real world you don't have a mechanic dedicated to your bike 24/7. You don't have a mechanic checking the bateries, cleaning things and making sure the system is 100%. In the real world, this system is bound to fail if subjected to everyday use. 2. And such a nice guy too...
  3. Buy a new rotor. It is like a hanger for the deraileur. You can bend it back and it will work fine for a while but the metal is never quite the same again. For interest sake - a lot of people have the quick release of the front wheel on the same side as the rotor - and invariably you tend to use the rotor to grip on while you tighten the wheel. This can easily bend your rotor.
  4. Colonel posted the spreadsheet earlier. That was really funny. I would be really pissed off it it were me they were discussing however. Where can we comment on their failings like with the liscence fiasco?
  5. Pornstar I would love to try your products. I live at the end of the known universe (George) and therefore I havn't had the opportunity to try it. If it is not in my LBS I can't buy it. We people on the platteland also use gel you know. If you do supply to a cycle shop or two down here, let me know please. We don't have a Dischem for instance.
  6. My Mavic rims came with a plastic insert that can be removed to fit Schrader or left in place for presta. I also can't see a reason for going presta. The added bonus is, if you do flat in a race, and someone throws you a tube, it will fit. That is not always the case if you run presta. I had that happen to me once when I was still running presta valves.
  7. They don't last that long - the race face BB. My LBS fitted a Truavitiv BB and taht worked well for a while with the crankset. In my experience - when they start giving trouble rather change the BB or you will end up tearing apart your FD and kill the chain.
  8. Just saw Burry come in third - super ride.
  9. Upgrade as the wear on the current products force you to. Unless you are racing at the sharp end of the field, you are probably not going to see a difference in the performance between Deore and XT in shifting. The price though is very different. FD in my opinion Deore is good enough anyway. It looks like you ride disc brakes - and there an upgrade is probably more noticeable and valuable. I have read a few bad things about the brakes this bike came standard with - if it is the Shimano M485.
  10. Only on the hub could you get a thread of 25 pages over a single dropped sachet. I think if the person dropped it, he is an idiot. If being an idiot were a crime, I would end up having to prosecute people for that all day, every day. So Greg, be a man and say it was political interference that caused the thread, take a shower and sing a rousing song about your machine gun.Serendipity2009-04-07 08:01:53
  11. I had the most epic of Sunday afternoon mountain bike rides yesterday. As most really special rides, this one was mostly unplanned. Unplanned as in where do you want to ride to - I don't know - lets go there - type of thing. We decided eventually on a punishing climb up to the old George dam, via the top contour road, and back along the bottom one. It was just a perfect ride. We climbed hard, explored a new section of single track we have never ridden, and had a hair raising descent down to the dam. Had a few falls, one particular one, going over the handlebars refuses to part from memory. Going back along the contour road at the bottom we started to up the pace and ended up racing back home. We raced each other and the sun. We ended up getting back home just as the sun was giving up the fight, bruised, tired, bleeding but smiling. In all we the Garmin measured 700 metres of vertical climb, in 30 km of riding. This is why I ride a mountain bike.
  12. As I said in the other thread, I don't know if it was intentional, but if Burry took the wheel from the day tripper, they would have received the 1 hour penalty. Songo.info got off with just a 15 minute penalty. The way I see it, while not lucky, they are fortunate to still be in the hunt.
  13. What law would that be? I agree with linnega on this. a Bycicle is a vehicle in terms of the National Road Traffic Act' date=' 93 of 1996. The same rules apply for you as for any other vehicle. [/quote'] the one that WILL be coming into force soon (hopefully) mistake, I admit... Sorry if my tone sounded condescending. It was not meant that way. It just irritates me to see cyclists behave like there is different rules them than for other road users.

  15. Hey - I get that - but won't say it out loud. I would blush.
  16. Why - are you interested perhaps?
  17. How do you manage to break a wheel like that and not break anything else. I love the look on Sauser's face looking at the wheel.
  18. I can't see how saving 200g a tire will save you the time you waste fixing a flat. Rolling resistance is another matter entirely. I saw the way some of these front teams abuse their tires last year. It is probably a good thing that they get their tires sponsored, or it would make up a good percentage of their budget.
  19. I am by no means a great rider but what really irritates me is when people start fast on the flats and when they strike the first climb you have to struggle to avoid them because they appear to be going backwards. If you finished in the middle of the field in your last race two weeks ago why would you want to line up in front on the next race?
  20. I don't know the year of manufacture of the forks, but you will probably add some weight to your bike if you switch to the Fox - 1.565kg for the Reba and 1.75kg for the Fox. I have a Reba and I am very happy with it. If the Reba is not giving uou any problems there is probably not a good reason to swap it.
  21. If you had to ask, you probably won't understand the answer.
  22. I tried both links to Fritz Pienaar's website in the email from Fritz Pienaar above.Funny think is the URL is not found. Either the link is broken or the page has been removed. Funny if it were removed. The innocent have nothing to hide.
  23. I went to look at those berms in the last picture after the racing was done. On the one berm I looked the highest tire marks were less than 1 cm from the top of the berm. These riders were going crazy fast in the last section.
  24. Very nice. The big air in the second pic is impressive.
  25. No amount of spin could get Mittal steel or Tiger Brands off with very well paid entire firms of attorneys. I hope everything gets investigated and guilty parties, if there are any, prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
