  1. Come do the Rock Pedal Classic from George to Louvain and back on Saturday and Sunday. You could do one day or both, 50km per day fun ride or 80km per day race. Check the Events Forum - all the info is listed. Apart from the commercial - if you are in the area and you ride mountain bike you should consider the pilgramage to the Red Route at Harkerville. It is singletrack heaven on earth.
  2. Langenhoven once said you can write a letter when you are upset but post it the next day. Unfortunately in the world of email and forums the damage is more immediate. Still, it takes a real man to appologise.
  3. That is a great idea. If the technology is available - use it.
  4. And the cyclists just keep giving him more ammunition - http://www.2oceansvibe.com/category/sport/cycling/
  5. I have replaced two BB's in two years but these have taken serious abuse - all off road. This includes the Hell and Back, Karoo to Coast, Trans Baviaans. Mountain bikes are notoriously heavy on maintenance. Your story about the BB sounds a little suspect...
  6. Very nice pics. Thank you for posting it.
  7. Welcome to the other side. Now you should go do the Red Route at Harkerville and become addicted to singletrack. You will never be able to ride a road bike and not think of that sweet route through the forest and the flowing ride next to the cliffs.
  8. That is a good point - epoxy glue will be really tough to pry loose and fit a regular tube if you have a side wall slash. I simply use car type valves (Schrader valve) and this has not failed in over a year. It is really easy to remove the valve and pour stans in.
  9. There is actually a new act, the Nationl Road Traffic Act, act 93 of 1996 which can be found here - http://www.info.gov.za/view/DownloadFileAction?id=70930 The bit you are looking for is not contained in the act, but in the regulations regarding use of pedal cycles, issued in terms of the NRSA. You can find it on the internet here http://www.transport.gov.za/library/regulations/1999/roadregs10.html and the bit you are looking for is in section 311. I am proud to say that I probably transgress at least one of these regulations every day I ride my bike and I am sure there are very few Traffic Police Officials who know about them. 10. I heard the other day that apparently Maxxiss only replace the tyres is you use their recommended sealant - which is not Stan's. I have seen a few Crossmarks do this.
  11. Don't you run out of gears with that small cluster at the back? The gearing must kill you going up the climbs.
  12. Don't you run out of gears with that small cluster at the back? The gearing must kill you going up the climbs.
  13. But your saddle - I mean you have to sit on that wet saddle...
  14. Post some pics when you get back.
  15. Isn't that illegal? I mean the Weight of course.
  16. Thanks, it works like a charm.
  17. HR "The Truth shall make you Fret" according to Pratchett. It is a good read. The character of William Wordsworth may even be loosely based on you. I would sue for copyright if I were you.
  18. I did it last year with my Edge 305. I can send you the file if you PM me your email address. It is in strict confidence though because I don't want anyone to see how I suffered. uploads/20081023_102318_Hell_and_back_c.rar Serendipity2008-10-23 10:23:44
  19. I like to listen to Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm any day.
  20. It doesn't say what caused the accident or why he is bringing the lawsuit. I can only imagine there must have been some roadworks or potholes. It sounds pretty painful all the same though.
  21. Tires are a very personal choice. There is little difference between the brands and even products from the same brand. Choose a brand and product you like, believe in, and feel comfortable with and stick to it.
  22. A problem I have of commuting by bicycle is that I don't have a place to park it during the day. They won't let me in the building with it and I don't want to leave it locked outside. There should be incentives for businesses to accommodate cycling commuters.
  23. Porky - I agree with you. Perpetuating a wrong doesn't make it right. Provocation may be mitigating in the end but it sure won't exclude guilt on their side.
  24. This is why I ride off the tar and on the roads and singletrack where no vehicle other than a mountainbike will survive. I never - outside of Argus - ride on the tar more than the 500m it takesto get to the dirt. I often see cyclists though behave the way they are often accused of behaving on the tar. What most people who don't see Inquests everyday forget is that in most collisions between a motor vehicle and bicycle the cyclists comes off worst.
  25. Slightly off topic but did any of you see the cartoon in die Burger yesterday about Puke Watson and Butana Kompela. I nearly wet myself.
