  1. I see the same at the Missing Link (technically it's not MTB specific). I both ride and run the trails. On the bike I've had many close calls with runners, hikers, dog walkers, dog poop... - 50% of which get a massive fright like "I totally did not expect a bike on this trail!". When I run - always on the lookout for bikes (look & listen). It's not a double black/DH trail so there's more than enough time to hear/see a bike approaching and get out of the way.
  2. Guys relax, OP never claimed it to be theirs. But whoever the influencer (kots) is that originally posted that image, he/she is obviously not a proud BikeHubber
  3. I feel the same way about this list as the list of our local municipal election candidates: none-of-the-above, but if I have to choose, I'll cast my vote to the least bad (coffee) option. ???? C'mon, where the real options at?
  4. Yeah looks like Garmin is still the way to go. They just have too many options. I'd be happy with the F55. But then, you want a few more data fields, may running dynamics, so you start looking at the 245. Add Garmin pay, running power and baro to the list and you'll start looking at the 645. But for proper triathlon you have to start with the 745. But it doesn't have the nice mapping features like the 945. And while you're spending $$$ you might as well go for the Fenix 6.... and nevermind the asynchronicity of updates and feature releases between the devices. Perhaps best to set a budget, then look at the options. ...but if a pay just a little more.... Can't go wrong, but why Polar and e.g. Garmin? Or Suunto? I actually started using an old Ambit after my F3 broke down. Luckily everything syncs to Strava. It's where a track my km's on gear, fitness increase/decrease etc.
  5. Wanting to replace my Fenix3. Was super happy with the device, apart from the now broken GPS unit. Looking at all of the options in the market - are there any real alternatives to Garmin? The iconnect store is super useful. Topo maps (limited devices for sure). Garmin pay. These are all nice-to-haves, but the nice to haves are what distinguishes one brand from another? My only gripe is that they have too many devices - makes it difficult to decide on a specific model (unless you have enough $$$ for any model). Suunto - really solid devices but always behind in terms of tech and features (only released wireless updates in 2021!). Polar is somebody that I used to know. Coros who? Not bothering with fitness/smart watches (i.e. Apple, Fitbit, Huawei, etc.)
  6. No, please don't.
  7. Apparently not .. well not the footkits, i.e. the vehicle specific rubber bits between the clamps and your car, got updated with the new Evo system. So while the bars and clamps can mix and match, the rubber bits are a bit model specific. Got the whole system, through Thule (bars, foot kit) and second hand clamps... everything worked well until the rubber foot kits didn't fit. What makes it worse is that I specifically asked Thule if X will work with Y and they said yes. Luckily, that means free returns. But that's what you get when you try to be cheap going 2nd hand... ugh. Ranting because the week was too long. Fisan, out.
  8. If you have a strava subscription they also have options (McMillan programme). My wife followed the Garmin Coach programme for 5k and it was extremely tedious. Plus I don't think it catered for goals below 5min/km.
  9. This guy also has a Renault 4 which he uses for local King of the Hill races...
  10. So I stayed at this BnB in Croatia a while ago... thought you guys may appreciate this coffee machine. Bonus Tandem-on-a-Fiat-500 photo
  11. Wow.... We're going there this weekend. But for a hike. Incredible part of the world.
  12. Oof... the $$$ to km ratio versus the min/km reduction is just bonkers! Oh I miss the simpler days when racing flats were just that - minimalist, cheap and fast. But, if I had that $$$ you'd definitely see me walking to the closest Bootleggers in pair of these. #CapeTownThings But I do wonder, when do you consider a shoe to be mechanically advantaged? And how far will Nike etc. be able to push the IAAF's limits to that extent? Or do we foresee a Two Oceans marathon for normal shoes and e-shoes categories?
  13. Shot. Will give this a go.
  14. Hey all, Does anyone know if a (Giant) PXC-2 front hub could be serviced? My front wheel is really not sounding happy at the moment. Can't find much information on teh interwebs. TIA
  15. Edit: whoops, it's old news on the 'gram already Like a scene from a dystopian sci-fi film
  16. According to https://www.sanparks.org/parks/table_mountain/tourism/access-cards-permits.php day permits could be bought from either Kirstenbosch Cape Town Tourism office (021 762 0687) or the Main Cape Town Tourism office. Is this still the case or are they closed on weekends?
  17. Bikes are expensive, so why skimp on the cleaning costs? Sure, the Muc Off, Finishline, products etc. are 75%:25% marketing:worth. But I still believe your bike deserves that 25%. Sunlight? Ugh
  18. Do it. I do about 90:10 trail:road running. Don't worry about too much about adverse effects. Worst case scenario you may lose your top speed but endurance wise you should only expect improvement. Luckily I live real close to the mountains so I don't have much need for road running: I mostly reserve it for speed workouts. As for speed: there's no real answer. My speed varies to about 10s/km slower on farm roads to 7min/km slower on top of the mountain. I can tell you alot about what to expect in the WC area. Btw my 5km and 10km PBs are all set on trail runs...
  19. Hi all, I'm looking at my options for a roofrack system on a "normal roof" car. I've done the Thule-online-fitting and more or less know which direction to go. The new systems uses the Evo clamp - which is a replacement to the older Rapid System (?). What I can't find anywhere is whether the car/brand specific foot kits are backwards compatible? I.e. does the Evo-compatible foot kit work on a Rapid clamp?
  20. It has become more tricky lately. A lot more exposed rocks now compared to mid-2020. Still a lot of fun and mad respect to the TMBikers and trail builders. Yeah I Strava-stalked some okes that did some rogue riding. I saw the guys did the full route recently and its one of the reasons I asked the hub whether its open or not.
  21. Nevermind the going down part - can we even go this far still? Last time I rode the trails it was blocked off about 1 to 2 km's from the initial turn-around point.
  22. Thanks for all the replies. Pity about Sanparks and Missing Link.
  23. Hi all, Looking for route ideas around Table Mountain - the less paved road the better. This is for a real MTB, not a gravel bike. Is the Missing Link trail open yet? Or do you still have to turn around half-way?Safest / best way from Suikerbossie to Constantia nek?Best route from Constantia nek to Rhodes mem?Sorry if has has been convered in another thread before. TIA and happy weekend riding!
  24. Keen. Sent you PM if you have not gotten a permit yet. Anyone else?
  25. R E V I V E! Can anyone advise on battery replacement for a Fenix 3? Garmin SA can't provide an estimated quote without sending in the device to Jhb (from Cpt). I'm still using my device on a daily basis so I don't want to go through the process only to reject a quote if it's not worth it...
