  1. Yeah agree, month end for sure. I would be keen on 2 x Stainless cages.
  2. Always supply pictures, especially when it comes to classic bikes. I have one just like yours.
  3. Very sad news. What's this country coming to. RIP lad. Thoughts with family and friends.
  4. Agreed. I guess it depends on what distances you want to race. You could easily fit in a 20 or 30km TT in the morning and a 80km road race early afternoon. Day 2 early 1.5 or 2km hillclimb and a Crit in the afternoon, 1Hr + 1lap. Shorter distances, but more intense racing.
  5. Also keen. Run in the format of the old schoolboy stage races, 2 days, 4 Stages Stage 1. Time Trial Stage 2. Road Race Stage 3. Hill Climb Stage 4. Criterium
  6. TRP brake levers, around R800.00, very well priced and look great. I like
  7. Now you just need the rest of the groupset that goes with that.... eBay prices can be a bit hectic... you now and again get a good deal, but with our exchange being the way it is... Its going to cost..
  8. You could sell them to me and I could try get them out. ;-)
  9. Really sad that a political part gets preference over an event that was organised over a year ago. I live in Durban and I have to pull out because we going away and I was pushing my luck with the family for the Sunday race.. Feel for the organisers... Durban is punted as the sporting capital of the country, well so the council like to always say.... How about now chasing these events away and embracing them. Damn politics and politicians....
  10. I use Seabourne couriers, they have delivered bikes and parts all over SA for me. Send a whole bike from Durban to Cape Town, cost R300.00 with insurance. Door to Door

    DIY Frame Build

Going to be following this thread very closely, I have toyed with building my own steel frame too.. Personally I would say Steel would be easier than Aluminium. Lots of guys in the past have tried Aluminium and it eventually cracks. I remember many years ago EXOCET built a CANNONDALE style frame, they generally always cracked. I like the solid modelling, I work with SolidEdge, use it for plastic injection mould design. Good luck and keep us posted.
  14. Sh*t that is brilliant. Perfectly restored... Very, very nice.
  15. Bactroban and one of those opsite water repellent plasters. Will minimise the scaring too. Bactroban works like a dream.
  16. Seems to be a name that comes up often. Thanks for the info. Will give him a shout when I have decided on colour.
  17. Very nice, who did the paint job? I have a master I need painted but wanting to make sure I get the best people to paint her..
  18. I would have been U17, but you would have been in my brothers age group I would probably think. He did the Cape town Erik van. Super aggressive racing in those age groups... I still have my Hansom with 105 that I used to race... Just rebuilt it a few months back..
  19. Around what year were you guys racing school boy? I started u15 in '87, raced inter provs and Erik van Enter at Hendrik Vervoerd dam. Most of the durban guys were on cannondales. Was an awesome era to grow up racing.
  20. Depends on how badly damaged, but a good bike shop or an engineering shop should be able to chase the threads. Pretty simple job.
  21. Normally around 800 or so for all events. Being 2 weeks before argus and a great event it's very well supported. Probably a good idea to get there early to register.
  22. Looking good for tomorrow. Really looking forward to this race, glad it's back on the calendar.
  23. Yip, Cannondale the only bike for really tall guys IMO. Depending on what you want to spend, I would say the CAAD 10 is great value for money. I am 1.87 meters with a 91cm inseam and I have ridden my CAD 3 for the last 13 or so years and not 1 issue. I have found I cant ride the new "compact" geometry frames, they just don't suit my build. Also guys our height generally aren't the lightweights in the bunch either and Cannondale is nice and strong. When you do buy make sure you get a nice strong set of wheels, 36 hole, build on really good rims.
  24. What happened to the days of getting onto the only bike available and riding the hell out of it. We so consumed by all this tech and marketing hype, its like we forgetting to ride the damn bike.
  25. Fizik Arione on my race bike and a Selle San Marco Rolls on my classic bike (the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden)
