Ok. So here's what I did - as far as I can remember....
Simply gave the bar that raises the half nut a 90° twist about 50mm from the end, then bent the last 30mm 90° to the right (looking from the front) then welded a hefty piece of 5x50 flat bar to that bent piece and that's it!
It was one of those frustrated moments when you just quickly try something not really expecting it to work and then it worked so well you don't ever give it a second thought!
I have got 2 spare ones under my workbench. I've been wondering what to do with them.WHAT??? Holy moly....
I got one laying under my work bench. Scrounged it form an old neighbour's garage when he moved to old age place plenty time ago...
Perhaps I should sell them to some needy hubbers???
My solution to the popping vise problem now that I think of it worked perfectly. In fact it was a real bodge that worked so well the first time I did it that I had completely forgotten about it! I just bolted a section of angle iron about 400mm long to the part that keeps the half nut engaged and the force of gravity keeps enough pressure on the nut to prevent it popping out.
I have used it almost daily for about 10 years loke that and it has never failed.
I will have to take a picture of it later this evening when I get home which will better explain how it works.
I think I might have found another option. Electric lighter-than-air blimp s. Up to 4 hours flying time. Up to 10kg payload and max 40km/h wind!
Check it out here. Eblimp.com
Thanks, that is a relief and brings my adjusted finish time closer to the time I was hoping to achieve.
-I Produced 10% more power during first 90min
-I am 4kg lighter than last year,
-Started 2 groups higher
Yet I finished 5 mins slower than last year.
But I instinctively knew my result was actually a better performance than last year. Went from top 11% finish position to top 8.8% finish position.
So weather can really negate all the other gains made in a given year in terms of finish time, but your position relative to your peers is what really counts.
Yup. One can't just go on time alone.
I don't have scientific numbers to confirm my own performance but this was my 6th time and I know I am at a similar fitness level to when I did my fastest time based on strava times etc and yet I was 13 minutes slower than my previous best.
So by my calculations, comparing 500th place, 1000th place and 2000th place to last year's times it would seem like everyone was around 12 to 13 minutes slower than last year for the same finishing position.
Is it ok to throw a banana peel under the next banana tree you ride past? Especially in kzn, they are all over the place.
After this years TDF I doubt Froome will be in Italy to defend his title. Hope I'm wrong though.
I think you are right. I reckon he will go all in for the TDF next year.
Start time 08h03
I am riding in budy batch with a friend who is doing his first ever bicycle race.
It will be my 6th Amashova. My previoud best time was 3h32 so I am really hoping to get somewhere around 3h20.
Agreed. Constructive debate is healthy for the advancement of cycling in SA.
Wouldn't it be great if a CSA public relations officer or media personnel or such like had a presence here on the hub. What better way to keep in touch with what cyclists issues are in SA. (If csa is even interested in that)
Whether one is allowed to race an unsanctioned event while serving a suspension is besides the point.
The fact that a rider choses to ride while suspended shows his lack of integrity.
A true measure of a person's character is when he shows consideration for others ie. the message that his participation sends to the rest of the cycling community.
When a person can come to the place of choosing to not ride even though they are allowed, shows that they have won the internal battle of selfishness and self entitlement for the benefit of the sport in general.
If we all could think of others a little more and a bit less of ourselves then this sport we love would be in a better place.
It's never too early ☺Hope it’s not to early to start the new thread.
Teams balk at UCI’s proposed Tour de France qualifying rules.
What a wus. Surely his busted shoulder blade is healed by now.....I see the softy Lawson Cradock is not starting the Vuelta!
I think you might be right. As long as he keeps the rubber side down as others have said.I am backing Richie for the win!
Although it's too little, too late
But nevertheless, it's my first time ever in the top ten
9th place. YAY
It would be nice if there could be a list of the top scoring teams for each day so that even if your score for a day is low you could see how you did compared to each other on the same day.
Never heard of her
Today, Peter Sagan set the record for the most amount of stages in the lead of a Tour de France classification:
Peter Sagan (Green) - 97
Eddy Merckx (Yellow) - 96
Richard Virenque (Polka Dots) - 95
Lucien van Impe (Polka Dots) - 90

And Lance?
GT's time up Alpe: 41+ minutes.
Nice explanation from Bruyneel, here:
Apparently it wasn't even in the top 100 fastest times.
If only I had chosen JA rather than de Gent I would be sitting in 2nd place instead of 11th
