  1. What still amazes me is every time I go to the local Spur I make a point of looking around at all the tables in the restaurant and every time almost every single person is drinking some sort of alcoholic beverage. Each one of those tables has a driver who is busy drinking - more than 1 drink and then they all proceed to get up after their meal and drive their families home. If it is like this at the local Spur one doesn't have to wonder how many cars drive away from other pubs/ bars/ hotels etc with drivers at the wheel who shouldn't be.

    It makes me mad.

  2. So I've been uh'ming and ah'ing for a while now to make some sort of personal contribution to this group.

I've always been around the 90kg mark and since I started cycling about 3-4 years ago it feels like my weight has been very difficult to contain.

I eat fairly healthy, no fast food, etc, but I have noticed I am eating much larger portions nowadays. My current weight is around the 96-98km mark.

I am just at a loss at some of the guys out on their bikes weighing 50-60kg.

My biggest vice is that cycling makes me very thirsty for a beer.

I feel like I'm seriously craving the gassy feeling of the beer - coke helps too, but seriously a beer is just so much more enjoyable. Problem is, I can easily knock down 2 beers straight after a weekend ride. After a race I can do a few more.

What cravings have some of you guys get after a ride and how do you deal with it?

Of do you indulge as a reward?

    I

I have found myself really enjoying fizzy water these days. Since I started last year on lchf I have stopped drinking anything other than the sparkling water and of course coffee.

Disclaimer: I have never been a beer drinker though.

  3. Well done to all you losers on this here thread. Also to those who have been inspired by other peoples successes here to commit to losing some unwanted weight but are too shy to participate in the discussion, keep going. It's so worth it. As long as the number on the scale is going down and not up you are heading in the right direction. Even if it is only 100 grams in a month - it is better than the opposite!

I have received a very pleasant surprise today - 99,7 kg!!!!!! WOOHOOOOOOOO

Still a way to go but, YES!!! I have not seen anything under 100 for so long now I thought it was not possible.  :)

  4. I always had the idea that cycling doesn't help too much with losing weight, I guess it depends how much time you spend on the bike. I started cycling in 2008, and was a weekend warrior until a year later, when I started to commute to work and back, weather dependent. I got lazy and stopped riding to work and back in 2011, and became a weekend warrior again. During the time of commuting, I didn't see a difference in my weight, although that could have been due to my eating habits.

I had a taste of running from the 1st to the 9th, and I lost a few kilos, but of course I had changed my eating habits.

I was told that weight loss is 70% the foods you eat, and 30% exercise.

Funny enough, this past year I have done the least mileage on the bike but for me it has been all about the food.

I have cut out all sugar, carbs and sweetners and added healthy fats. That's it.

My whole life I have tried to get my weight under control and finally I have found the thing that works.

    Long may it continue.

  5. Well, 3 days of severe stomach cramps (from what I suspect might have been dodgy biltong) saw me eating less than one meal in 3 days. I am happy to report that eating less definitely does cause one to lose weight! I finally managed to crack my December plateau and now have the 100kg mark firmly in my sights.

As of this morning, I am 101.5kg. That gives me a total loss of 19kgs over the last 12 months.

  6. The clamps are a good price but the shipping price is law dropping stuff!

Its actually cheaper to ship directly from Amazon which is pretty unusual with stuff off Aliexpress.

This one offers free shipping at a higher price for the clamp.

Not too bad. Also, it is the 3/4" and not 1/2" as a lot of them are

  7. Well that didn't last long.

Still though I think 208 is a bit out of reach on this wicket.

Big Vern is going to be a handful imho.

And Vern's number 6 goes down!!!

    I could say I told you so but I won't [emoji12]

  8. Maharaj is quite steady with the bat

    And The Vern of course

Let’s hope they can add some runs

    Yup,

Keshav averages 17.84 in tests with 232 runs in 19 innings and a first class batting average of 22.45 with 2245 runs.

Big Vern averages 25.44 with almost 1200 runs in tests and a first class average of 26.23 with 4197 runs. If I remember correctly he was the number 1 test all-rounder by some margin for a quite a while.
